Prologue
A small orange tabby striped dragon padded through the rain, her matching wings tucked at her sides. The roads were deserted as she continued on her way. Her tail swaying leisurely back and forth.
A crow flew over and landed gently on her shoulder. "Caw!" The bird called. The tabby striped dragon opened her green eyes, peering at the dusky black bird. In a split second the crow took flight again and headed in another direction. The furred dragon hesitated before bounding quickly after the small bird. "W-wait!" She cried, running as it lead her down a dark and gloomy alleyway. The bird landed softly on a small skull of a feline, its skeleton scattered across the cold concrete. The feline's large canines poked out from under her jaw bone.
"Maya!" She exclaimed, her ginger ears pinned against her head and her tail drooped. "No.." Her voice shrank as she lowered her head before pressing her head gently to the skull. "I'm so sorry.."
The crow cawed, its voice rang out through the rain. "Your friends", The bird began. "will scatter like fallen leaves in the wind unless you take on a challenge greater than yourselves."
"S-scatter!? What do you mean?" The tabby wondered, desperately calling out to the bird. The bird was already ascending into the gray sky, its wings fluttering in the strong storm breeze. "Jade!" A voiced called into the chilling winds.
"H-huh?"Jade blinked her eyes open to see a small golden yellow retriever at her bedside, her head tilted to the side. "Good morning! Were you having a bad dream?" The golden yellow dog wondered.
"It was nothing.." Jade mumbled, deep in thought. What did he mean by 'scatter'? What happened to Maya?
"Wait..where's Maya?! " Jade asked, a look of concern printed on her face.
A white tabby with black striped padded into the room, two large fangs stuck out of her upper jaw. "I'm right here." Maya commented with a chuckle. "Is something wrong?"
"No..I uh..just had a bad dream." Jade confessed as she jumped out of bed, her tail twitching anxiously.
"Strange. All of us have claimed to have nightmares." Maya mewed softly, her ears twitching thoughtfully. "Everyone mentioned a crow."
The golden yellow dog added, "the crow lead to a corpse of a friend of ours." Jade stepped forward. "And he said, 'our friends will scatter like fallen leaves in the wind unless you take on a challenge greater than yourselves.' "
"We must speak to the elder." Another voice broke the silence before a tawny colored cat padded out of the shadows, her small feathery wings tucked gently at her side, tiny black spots dappled her tawny colored pelt and wings.
Jade nodded in agreement. Her whiskers twitching in worry. What does the dream mean? She shook her head to clear her thoughts, her pelt already bristling.
The owl like cat raised her muzzle and called out, "Its time for a meeting! Please gather in the living room." She turned her head to Jade and the others. "Let's head to the living room." She then turned and padded calmly out of the room.
Jade followed, Maya and the small golden dog on her tail, Jade headed down the stairs quietly before racing to the living room excitedly.
"Slow down, Jade." The brown owl- like cat warned. "You could get hurt." Jade gave a slight nod before crawling through the doggy door. The others following behind her. Jade's tail wagged seeing all her friends gathered in a circle. "Everyone, sit." The brown cat with owl wings demanded. Everyone quickly sat.
"We have all had the same dreams, correct?" She asked, looking around the circle carefully.
Everyone nodded, there were some who murmured a 'yes'. A large black retriever with speckles of unnatural colors stood up. "But what are we supposed to do about it, Amulet?"
"What do these dreams mean?" Another voice squeaked, their voice tinted with fear.
Mumbling broke out out within the circle of friends. "Silence!" Amulet yowled, everyone with silent.
"We are going to speak to the elder. She will know the answers to our questions." Amulet finished.
.......................................
"Are we there yet?" A small white dog with black and brown patches asked before her and a few other dogs burst out laughing.
Amulet rolled her eyes before replying, "No, not yet, Fauna."
The friends continued their trek, padding through the silent almost dead streets and alleyways.
"This is boring!" Maya complained and Jade nodded slightly in agreement before opening her jaws wide in a yawn.
"We are almost there. Hang in there!" Amulet called, her tail twitching anxious back and forth. Jade tilted her head. It's not like Amulet to be nervous. She looked up at a flickering light with new unease before the light went out. Jade's ears twitched as she heard a loud grunt. "Did you hear that?" She turned her head to Maya. The white cat with black stripes stopped, her ears pricked for a second before shaking her head. "No..Why?" A puzzled expressed embedded on her face.
Amulet stopped, "I think I smell something.. " She lifted her muzzle in the air and sniffed. Another loud grunt broke the silence. "What brings you here, young ones?"
Amulet's silky fur bristled and feathers ruffled in surprise. "Is this the elder?" She questioned as a large pink animal stepped out of the shadows. A crow perched quietly on her shoulder. "Correct. Although you can call me Madame Margaret."
Caw! The crow called. "Oh and my feathery friend is Marvin."
Jade narrowed her eyes at Marvin. He looks familiar. "He can't talk, can he?" She asked Madame Margaret. The large animal shook her head. "Anyways that is none of your concern, what brings you here?"
Amulet bowed her head. "Madame Margaret, we have come here because we've all had the same dream." She answered.
"Describe it. " Madame Margaret oinked. Amulet nodded and described the dream. The large animal grunted and gave a sideways glance at her crow companion. "Awe, Marvin. You could have been more clear to these younger ones. "
Madame Margaret turned to the group of friends. "You will loose each other." She began. "However a journey is the ideal answer to your problem. "
