Okay, I was getting mad. Nadia was like being teased by every Slytherin!! I felt like hexing everyone! Ugh, I hated them! And you ask why I didn't sit with Nadia? It was because, at the start of the lesson, the Slytherin girl I'd punched came up to me and said, "Carandis, is it?"

"Yes." I said shortly. "I'm Beatrice Everton." She said. I paled. "My... My father knows yours!" I said. "Yes, which is why we are best friends." She grabbed my hand and dragged me to her table. I tried to move, but I was surrounded. "It's a Carandis!" "She stood up for a mudblood!" "A Carandis! In our grade!" There were gasps all around.

Then, thankfully, the professor came in. After the lesson, some Slytherin boy tripped Nadia up. They all started laughing. Nadia ran out of the classroom in tears. I was so angry I was literally shaking. "How dare you hurt my friend!" I yelled at the boy, and then punched him in the face. He staggered back, his nose bleeding. Then I punched him in the gut and said, "Don't mess with me or my friends, get it?" In a deadly voice and walked away.

That night, I was sitting late in the common room, trying to finish my potions homework. "Ugh!" I cried out in frustration. "This is getting me nowhere!" I leaned back into my chair. I still had about 1 foot left to write, and I was so annoyed! Then I had an idea. "But of course! Nadia!" I said happily.

I snuck out of the dungeons and towards the Ravenclaw tower. On the way I banged into someone. "Ouch!" We both whisper-yelled. Wait. I recognised that voice! "Alyssa?" I asked. She looked up and said, "Zoey!" "What are you doing here?" We asked at the same time. "Well... I was visiting Nadia to get the answers to my potions homework..." I muttered sheepishly, rubbing my neck.

"Same!" She said, in the same tone as me. There was a pause. "Well, let's get going, shall we?" She asked. We walked over to the tower, and then Alyssa knocked. "What is lighter than a feather, but cannot be lifted even by the strongest man in the world?" Came the eagle's soft, musical voice. I looked at Alyssa quizzically and she shrugged. We stood there for a while in.... Oh! I got it! "It's silence, isn't it?" I asked.

In response, the door swung open. We highfived and walked in. Then we quietly went to the girl's dorm and woke Nadia up. "Nadia!" Alyssa shook her. "What?" Nadia bolted up. "Sorry, we needed your help, Naddie!" I said. "Naddie?" Alyssa looked at me strangely. "Yeah, my nickname. Yours is Lyssa." "So will you mind telling me what you are doing here at-" Nadia checked the time. "1 am?"

"About that...." Me and Alyssa exchanged glances. We had a silent glaring contest.

Eventually, I won, and flicked my eyebrows up at her. She just rolled her eyes at me. "Well... We kinda needed help on our potions homework...." She muttered. Nadia's lips turned upward in a smile. "Why didn't you just ask? I could've helped you!" She said.

"It was that easy?!" We said in disbelief. "Of course!" Nadia rummaged into her bag, and got out a piece of parchment, neatly rolled up and tied with a blue ribbon. "Here." She tossed Alyssa the roll, and then got up. "What are you doing? Go back to sleep!" We hissed at her. She rolled her eyes. "Do you really think I would sleep when my best friends are slaving away?"

We smiled at each other. And then we went to the common room and finished our work. It took till 2 am! But we kept up our spirits by making each other laugh and smile. Me especially. When we finally parted, Nadia hugged both of us. And then I properly decided. All the freaking castes in the world could take the fast route to hell for all I cared! These were my best friends right here, so deal with it, mom and dad!
