2. Getting To Know Everyone
The song above is Greedy by Tate McRae
Angel's POV:
As the sun hit my face it woke me out of a dead sleep, my head was pounding, and the room was spinning. I slowly sit up grabbing my head, and groaning I look around nearly forgetting I wasn't where I was used to being it almost scared me for a moment but that thought passed because I just shut that emotion off. My eyes fall on a water bottle and two pills wondering who left that there because I never heard anyone enter or exit my room, my guard went up these guys were still strangers, I may have laughed with the girls but I still needed time to adjust to this new home of mine. I grab the bottle and pills shaking off how I felt. I open the bottle, put the pills in my mouth, then take a sip of water to wash them down.
I groan again as I place the bottle down, I push myself off the bed realizing I smell terrible, like a frat party gone wrong. I walk over to the closet and grab my tactical gear, my shower stuff, and a towel and then I walk to my door. I open it and walk out with my stuff, heading for the showers, I walk into the girl's side and place my stuff down hearing groaning and someone throwing up. I shake my head as I get undressed, take my knee brace off, and head into an empty shower, knowing we all felt like absolute shit this morning from drinking until 130am. I wash up and wrap my towel around me once I am finished, stepping out of the shower and leaving my shower stuff there.
"Angel! You can store your shower stuff in the cabinets near the sinks!" Rose says as she emerges from the shower next to mine. "Thank you," I say grabbing my things and walking towards the sinks and cabinets. I open an empty cabinet place my stuff inside, I grab my knee brace and exit the showers. I head back towards my room, slightly limping by Keegan and Ghost who I don't look at, my head is still pounding, this hangover was hell on earth. I finally make it to my room and go inside, sitting on the edge of my bed, I groan as I put the brace back on.
I've been out of action for nearly a month and I wasn't used to it, I place my hand on my knee and gently rub it. I push the pain away as I hear a knock on my door, "Come in!" I call out as I adjust my knee brace to where it needs to be. "Hi, I'm Keegan, Price sent me to grab you to go train some," I look up as he speaks, he wasn't bad looking, I take in his features, as I say, "Okay, I'm ready!" I push myself up off my bed and walk towards him.
"Are you going to be able to do this?" He asks as I stop in front of him. I nod as I say, "Yeah, I've been doing the physical therapy and training as much as my body will allow." He shakes his head and says, "Alright! Let's go then!" He walks out of my room and I follow him to the training room. We walk inside, and I follow him towards the mats in the center of the room.
"We'll start with the easy stuff and work into the harder things, we need to make sure you're ready for anything," he looks at me as I say back to him, "Sounds good. Let's do this!" I give a small smile before we begin. Keegan tries to reach for me as I jump back, unfortunately putting all my weight onto my bad knee which gives out, causing me to hit the floor hard. Keegan runs over to me as I push myself off the floor and get up, "Are you okay?!" His voice was full of concern.
"Yeah I'm fine," I say shaking off the pain I was feeling. "Let's try it again!," I say looking at him. He shrugs his shoulders and we go again, this time when I land my knee doesn't give out. After that we moved on escaping from different grips, Keegan grabbed my arm and pulled it behind me slightly twisting it, I lifted my bad leg and slammed my foot into his knee which caused him to let me go and hit the ground. I bust out laughing because it took me one try to knock him down and let me go. "So Angel, tell me about yourself, we're going to be working together so I should get to know you," Keegan says as we continue training.
"Well I'm 26, and I've been with Task Force 126 for 4 years, I started there when I finished my training, I worked with some of the most amazing people and I miss them a lot and can't even reach out to them because someone could be trying to locate us. I love animals, I have a great shot, I drink, I love to dance, and I'm just trying to adjust to this team after everything that happened." I say as I dodge a punch of his. "Damn, and you don't remember what happened?" Keegan asks as he wraps his arms around my waist and throws me onto the mat. "No, not a damn thing dude, I wish but then again I don't," I say as I roll over throwing him off of me.
At that moment I didn't see Ghost staring at us from across the room. Keegan gets up off the mat and tries to come after me but I sidestep him and grab him, shoving him onto the ground. He wraps his arms around me taking me down with him, I gasp as my body hits his. Keegan just smiles as he says, "Gotcha!" I laugh as I fight out of his grip, push myself up into a standing position, and put my foot onto his chest. "Stay!" I start to giggle as he just looks up at me and says, "I'm not a fucking dog!" I start laughing harder, "Really? You sure?" I tease him not feeling Ghost's stare on us.
I remove my foot from Keegan's chest and offer him my hand so he can get off the floor, he takes it and pulls himself up, I feel a sharp pain go through my knee but ignore it as Keegan says, "Let's hit the gun range, I have to see your shot." I smile, "Sounds good to me let's go!" I turn finally spotting Ghost staring at me, I just shake my head, and follow Keegan out of the training room. Ghost's eyes never left me as I disappeared from his sight following Keegan. We walk by Fox who looks at me and smiles, "Hey!" I smile back, "Hey!" I continue following Keegan to the gun range.
As we pass the offices, I spot Ghost, I remember my old lieutenant telling me I would be working under Simon Riley who went by Ghost. "Yo Keegan!," A guy I don't recognize flags Keegan down, "Hey Konig what's up dude? I have more training to do with the rookie here," Keegan says as he points to me. I just stand there watching them as the one named Konig says, "When you're done with her, Ghost wants to see you." Keegan nods his head as he says, "Yeah tell him I'll meet him in his office after the gun training." Konig nods, "I'll let him know."
We arrived at the gun range a few minutes later, walking into it, I looked around it shocked because it was much bigger and better looking than the one I was used to. "Holy fuck," I say taking in how huge and nice the range was. Keegan laughs, "What yours wasn't like this?" I shake my head from side to side, "No it was smaller and more beat up, Task Force 126 was something else," I laugh and then go silent pushing the sadness I was feeling back down, mentioning my old team was already hard and we had just split up the day before. "You okay?" Keegan asks looking concerned. "Yeah, I'm fine, let's do this!" I say looking at him with a serious look on my face. I hope I had convinced him to just drop it because I don't want to talk about it.
He just looks at me but doesn't say anything further. We walk in silence to where the guns are. "Pick one," Keegan says as I look up at him. I turn my attention to the guns my eyes falling on a beautiful assault rifle. I pick it up, "This one," I say smiling. "Nice choice, let's go," he says grabbing an assault rifle himself. We walk over to where the targets are and get into position.
I look over at him as we both raise of rifles, then I focus on my target, once I have it lined up the way I want it, I pull the trigger hitting the target dead center. I smile at myself, proud I still had it even though this was the first time I had touched a gun since everything happened. I continued to aim at targets hitting them all where I wanted to. Keegan had stopped halfway through shooting his targets to watch me. "Hey, you wanna try the moving targets outback?" Keegan asks looking impressed.
"Hell yeah!" I say with a smile on my face. He waves at me to follow him, I do so, and we walk out of the gun range and out into a huge fenced-in area behind headquarters. We stopped a few feet away from an area that had a bunch of targets attached to electronic devices to move them around. I get myself into position and Keegan grabs a remote to hit a button to start the targets moving, as they start I focus on them and hit everyone. "Okay, that should be enough training for now, you can hit the gym if you want or just go hang with the other ladies and get to know them better," Keegan says, "That was amazing though, I think you'll fit in with us just fine. And with a shot like that, you could be our secret weapon!"
I started laughing, "Well thank you!" After that, we head back to drop the guns off, then make our way back down the hallway towards the offices. Keegan stops me before I go further, "I am really happy you're here and I hope you get comfortable soon," he says then wraps his arms around me, I hug him back and then spot Ghost staring hard at us. He lets go and I step away, "Bye for now," I say and then walk off before he can respond and I can just faintly hear Ghost say, "Is there something going on with you two I should know about?!" My eyes widen as my knee gives out causing me to hit the ground hard. I hear footsteps and just push myself up and half run half limp off before Keegan or Ghost can touch me.
Ghost's POV:
I stand in my doorway watching Keegan and Angel walk from the hallway that leads to the gun range. I watch Keegan stop Angel and say, "I am really happy you're here and I hope you get comfortable soon," he then leans in and wraps his arms around Angel's waist hugging her. I catch her gaze on me, I keep a serious look on my face and unreadable emotions. I watch her step away from Keegan and say, "Bye for now," and then she walks off. Keegan walks over to me and stops in front of me as I say, "Is there something going on with you two I should know about?!"
Before Keegan can answer I watch Angel's knee give out and she falls to the ground pretty hard. Both Keegan and I start to rush over to her but before we reach her she's already up and half running half limping away from us. I look at Keegan as I go into my headset, "Soap, can you please grab Angel and bring her to the infirmary for a check-up on her knee?" I hear static then Soap's voice, "Yes sir, I'll go find her now!" I look at Keegan as we enter my office, "So is there something I should know?!"
Keegan looks at me funny, "No Ghost there's nothing to know, she just got here and she's pretty good at what she does." I look at him unsure if I believe he doesn't feel something towards a girl that looks the way she does. "Okay, so her training went well?," I ask as I lean against my desk. "Yeah, she's got a perfect shot and her fighting skills are still there," Keegan says looking at me. I nod at him and say, "Good."
I hear static then Soap's voice, "Uh we have a situation with Angel, you should get down here." I sigh and shake my head as I reply, "I'm on my way." Keegan just looks at me and I shake my head again. We leave my office and make our way through headquarters to the infirmary, as we're walking down the hall the infirmary is located down, I can hear Angel's voice and she sounded angry, "I am so sick of being poked at! No, I don't fucking remember anything from that night! Why the fuck do you keep asking me?!"
Keegan and I walk into the infirmary as Angel throws something at the doctor and screams in anger. I go over to Angel and gently grab her, "Enough!" I say sternly, looking down at her. Her gaze looked up at me and her eyes were so full of hatred. She yanks her arm out of my grip and shoves me away. She walks towards the door passed Keegan not even looking at him. I turn and look at the doctor, "What the hell did you do to her?! I said check on her knee! Not interrogate her about her memories! You idiot!" I say angrily. "It's standard..." He begins but I cut him off, "Fuck your standards! I just needed to know if her knee was okay!" I punch the wall next to me and then walk out of the room.
Angel's POV:
After being pushed to my limits, I left the infirmary shoving Ghost and not looking at Keegan. I didn't feel any pain at that moment, I walked to my room, went to my closet, and grabbed an outfit to change into. I needed to get away from here for a few hours. I grab my cell and shoot Fox a text, Grab the girls I need to get away for a bit.
A few seconds later there's a knock and a voice, "It's Fox!" "Come in!" I say back as my door opens.
"I need to get out of here, can we go out dancing and drinking?" I ask as she enters my room. "Yeah! Let's just go! We'll go shopping for outfits so we can just get out before someone tries to stop us," Fox says smiling as she shoots a text to a group message with me in it. Fox grabs my hand causing me to drop my phone and not realize it, I laugh as she pulls me out of my room and into the hallway. We walk towards the front, meeting the girls there, and we all exit headquarters together. We pile into a car together, Fox in the driver's seat, I'm in the passenger seat and 3 girls (Rhea, Alexa, and Callie) are in the back.
Fox drives us away from headquarters and I yank my knee brace off dropping it onto the floor near my feet frustrated. I reach over to the radio and hit the on button, hoping some music could drown out the screams from inside my head. I Mean It by G-Eazy begins putting a smile that was so big onto my face, "This is my jam!" All the girls yell, "SAME!" and we all begin to sing out the song dancing as we drive towards the mall so we can find some outfits for tonight. We spent a good 20 minutes driving before we got to the mall.
Fox parks the car and we all get out, this being the first time in over 3 weeks I didn't have a brace on my leg, I ignored any and all pain I felt pushing it deep down and putting a smile on my face. We walk into the mall and walk around to find a good store to buy our outfits in. We ended up in Glitterati, a store that had a lot of sparkly dresses in it. We all walk around and find our outfits of choice, I end up with a dress sparkly dress and a pair of black high heels. We bring our purchases to the counter and pay then leave the store. We find the bathrooms before the exits and head into them so we can change before we go to a club.
Rhea suggested a newer nightclub she had been to about 3 weeks ago called Golden Rain. When we arrive at the Golden Rain all my anger, fears, and sadness just leave my body. We head inside and hit the bar to order drinks first.
