Chapter 4 The Halloween Scare
On Halloween, Josh was heading back to his house with some decorations in his arms. His parents and sister were almost finished with decorating the house and he was excited for both trick or treating and the festival that night.
"Hey Mom dad! I got the last of the decorations!" Josh called out as he got inside.
However when he got inside he was met with a big black widow spider. This caused him to scream like a little girl and he dropped all the stuff in his arms.
"AHHH! SPIDER! SPIDER! SPIDER!" Josh screamed and fell over in fear.
"Josh!! Oh my god JASON! YOU FORGOT TO TAKE THE SPIDER OUTSIDE AND PUT IT ON THE WEB!" Abmel screamed at her husband when she saw the spider in the doorway.
Josh just sat there in shock and fear as his arachnophobia was punching the roof into space. Abmel then went up to the decoration and took it down, she threw it out of Josh's sight. Josh calmed down as the spider decoration was now out of his sight and his arachnophobia calmed.
"Are you alright Josh?" Abmel asked her son worriedly.
"I-I'm fine, T-Thanks mom." Josh said, a bit shaken up.
"That's good to hear, let's get the decorations together and, did you also get your refills on your medicine?" Abmel asked as she hoped Josh got his refills for his asthma treatment.
"Yeah I stopped by the pharmacy on my way here mom. You did remind me about ten times this morning and via text so I didn't forget." Josh explained.
"Hehe sorry, I just don't want your asthma to limit your life, after all dad said you only get one life. So you need to live it to the fullest and not let anything limit you, that includes a medical condition like yours." Abmel explained.
"Hehe, thanks mom, hey where's Umang?" Josh asked.
"Oh he's in the backyard with Lila and Faith. You know I'm surprised to see that a cat and dog get along so well." Abmel stated.
"Hehe, if only you knew." Josh muttered to himself so his mom couldn't hear him.
Josh then got up and helped his mother collect the decorations and the bag of meds he also had. After putting the things on the table Josh went outside and saw Lila and their animal guides putting up the decorations.
"Hey guys! I'm back from the store!" Josh called out.
"Hey Bro! How did it go? You didn't run into Karen did you?" Lila asked, joking a little at the end.
"It went well and I didn't sis, but I did get scared by one of the decorations that looked like a spider." Josh explained.
"Off, I know how you are with Spiders, but hey look on the bright side we're going trick or treating tonight, and even going to the city's festival." Lila explained trying to cheer her brother up.
"Thanks sis... *sigh* but I wish that this phobia would just calm down! Ever since I was little my phobia was bad! I hoped it would calm down as I grew up and matured but it hasn't and it's still the same!" Josh exclaimed, showing how upset he was.
Lila frowned as she knew that it was true with how it's still pretty bad. Ever since they were kids Josh always flipped out whenever he saw spiders. He'd run, scream, cry, and even froze at times, ever since they were kids. However while some mature and become less afraid of somethings, that wasn't the case for Josh. He was clearly frustrated with this as he wanted to try and be less scared, but nothing changed. Lila hoped that she could try and help Josh be a little less scared of spiders and hopefully he won't be so frustrated anymore. However Lila shook this off and decided to go back to putting up the Halloween decorations.
"Hey Bro why don't we finish up decorating. After that we can watch some movies till it's time to go trick or treating." Lila suggested hoping to get Josh's mind off his fears.
"Sure, why not, after all the sooner we get done with this the sooner we can do that!" Josh exclaimed happily. Lila smiled at that, and the twins got to work decorating the backyard.
"Hey Josh, why are you so determined to be less afraid of spiders?" Faith asked.
"Well, I want to be more brave, and everytime I see a spider I freeze up. And I don't want to be viewed as a coward because of how I react to spiders." Josh explained.
"Hey Josh, if people think you're a coward because of how you react to spiders then they don't know anything about being brave and being cowardly." Umang explained.
"What? What do you mean?" Josh asked.
"Being brave isn't about not being scared, it's about doing something even if you're afraid. And being a coward isn't facing up to anything and just running away from it all." Umang explained the difference between the two.
"... thanks Umang, we'll see if I'm a coward or if I'm brave." Josh said as he put up some black and orange streamers.
Meanwhile within the shadow realm, Adrienne, and Lucifer were in the throne room waiting for the scientist to bring them to Craindre. They were informed that they were finished and ready to be given their new host. The scientist soon emerged from the other side of the room and in their arms was the container that Craindre was in. They walked up to the bottom of the stairs that led up to the thrones and they got down on their knees.
"Your majesties, my deepest apologies for being late, but Craindre here is finally ready for use." The Scientist explained as they presented the container.
Lucifer and Adrienne hummed for a bit and examined Craindre as they wriggled inside their container.
"We shall see how far they are in battle. Guards, get Jack and John, we'll need them to get the new host for Craindre, and they said they have a plan to lure the Rainbow Squads into a trap." Lucifer explained.
The two guards nodded and went to go find the two brothers. "Why in the world are they even here? That Jack guy creeps me out." One guard whispered.
"I don't know, but they're pretty effective, and besides they have that healing thing with that hate stuff in them." the other guard explained.
The two guards soon arrived at a black, white, and red door with an image of Jack's head on it. The first guard knocked on the door lightly, but Jack didn't come bursting out of the room as he normally did. The second guard then grabbed the door knob and opened it up. Once the door was open they saw that room was vacant with Jack nowhere in sight.
"Um, where is that clown?" The first guard asked.
"I think he's in John's room, let's check." The Second guard said.
The two then went to John's room and decided to skip the knocking and just enter. When they arrived and opened the door they saw the western themed room indeed held the two brothers. John was throwing some crystal daggers at a puppet that Jack had strapped up to a target.
"Hey Jack John!" The first guard called out. The sudden call startled John so much that he threw the dagger all wrong and it hit the wall instead. Angry John shot a glare at the two guards for disrupting him and making him mess up his throw.
"HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" John yelled angrily.
"Sorry! But Lucifer has requested for you and your brother's presence!" The Second guard quickly blurted out.
"Oh? Well then brother, let's go." John said, then took Jack's wrist and brought him to the throne room to meet with their king.
The two brothers soon arrived and when they did they bowed to Lucifer after approaching him.
"My king, what do you need from us?" John asked.
"Well I received word that Craindre is finally ready, so I'd like you two to take them to earth and give them their host." Lucifer commanded.
"Understood, is there anything else you'd like us to do?" John asked.
"Well once Craindre has their host I want you both to head to the trap I had set up and help Craindre destroy the Rainbow Squads." Lucifer explained.
The two nodded, Lucifer smiled at this and gestured for the scientist to give Craindre to the brothers. The scientist cautiously went up to Jack, as they were pretty scared of what the clown would do to them, and handed the container that Craindre was in. Jack took the container roughly and left the room along with his brother to head to earth.
Meanwhile on earth, the sun was now setting and it's now trick or treat time for the Rainbow Squads and Royal children.
"Wow! This is so exciting! We're allowed to stay up late and get free candy! We're going to be out all night having fun!" Oberon exclaimed excitedly.
"Eh Na, my parents say I have to be home before midnight as it's also Día de los Muertos AKA Day of the dead." Erick explained.
"Um, what's that?" Cen asked.
"It's when my family honors the people who aren't with us anymore, we put up altars that had our ancestors favorite things on them, we sing, we dance, it's a lot of fun." Erick explained.
"Cool... wait, how come Ericks is the only one celebrating?" Freya asked.
"Well that's because Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday, and tradition so that's why Erick's the only one celebrating." Jane explained.
"Oh, alright, well let's go then, I want to see some good spots where we can get some candies on earth." Freya explained.
Everyone nodded and started trick or treating throughout the streets enjoying their time. After a few hours the sun had fully set and the city was swallowed by the night sky. The Squads and Royal children all had lots of candy in their bags, having lots of fun with their trick or treating as well seeing all the other kids in their own costumes.
"Wow Josh your bag is full!" Melody said as she noticed how much candy Josh had.
Josh then unzipped a zipper at the bottom of his bag and it revlied more of the bag that now spelled Josh's name.
"Ha! This isn't my first rodeo! I try to get as much candy as I can carry!" Josh exclaimed.
"Yeah he does, he's been doing that since our first Halloween." Lila explained.
"I can see that, Josh really loves candy doesn't he?" Melody asked.
"Yes he does." Lila stated.
"AHHH! SPIDER!'' Everyone heard Josh scream.
They looked and saw Josh had run into a spider decoration that was hanging on a lamp post. When Josh realized that it was a decoration he groaned again as he felt like he overreacted because of his fear.
"Hey Josh you alright?" Iris asked.
"Ugh! No! I freaked out over a spider decoration again! Ugh!" Josh screamed angrily.
"Hey Josh! It's alright!" Iris said, trying to calm him down.
"No! It's not... I thought that when I got older this fear would have less of an Impact on me! But that doesn't seem to be the case!" Josh explained frustrated with how his fear hasnt gone down at all.
"Josh, fear isn't going to go down with how you age, it can go down with experience." Akira explained.
"Yeah! Akira's right! If you want your fear to have less of an impact on your life, then you need to accept it and face it. Then and only then will your fear won't be so bad and impact you so much as it is right now." Umang explained.
Josh smiled at that, but he just pushed the decoration out of his face and continued on.
"Hey Hannah, where's your brother, parents, and sister?" Mary asked.
"Daniel is in the city at the festival, my dad is taking Lilly trick or treating but they're taking a different route than we are, and my mom's at home handing out candy. We're planning on watching a Halloween move when everyone gets back to the house." Hannah explained.
"Oh, alright, that sounds fun!" Mary said.
"It will be." Hannah said.
"Wow dudes look at that!" Erick exclaimed then pointed to a haunted house attraction on the other side of the street they were on.
"Wow, I don't remember seeing anything about a haunted house anywhere online." Josh stated as he scratched his head in confusion.
"Well I've never seen one of these, you all think we should go in?" Cen asked.
"I don't see why not!" Dillion exclaimed.
"Yeah from what I heard, haunted houses are very popular." Amara added.
"Well they are, I've been to a few when I was a kid." Jane explained.
"It'sss true, I sssaw picturesss of Jane in them hanging in the houssse." Kate added.
"It's still strange that this showed up without any kind of news." Ed stated as he felt something was off about this.
"Eh they could've forgotten to announce it. They might be new to the business." Erick explained.
"Well let's go in! I wanna see what they got inside!" Jenny exclaimed excitedly.
"Yeah! Let's go!" Oberon exclaimed just as excited, but mostly because of the new experience he's about to have.
The Squads and Royal children crossed the street and went to the haunted house. When they got to the house, there was a cardboard cutout of a mummy pointing into the house. There was a space bubble next to it saying "Enter if you Dare!" Josh rolled his eyes as he'd try to come up with something more unique instead of something classic. Hannah opened the door to the haunted house and allowed everyone to go inside. Once they were all in, Hannah closed the door, and the cardboard cutout disappeared from view. Craindre then came out from hiding behind the wall and they smiled when they saw the squads going into the house.
"Hehe Oh squads, you all are so easily tricked and the royal children are so curious about earth! Hehe I hope you all enjoy meeting my little friends! As they will take the form of anything you're afraid of! I can't wait to finally have some fun, and I can't wait to see what Jack and John have in store for them!" Craindre exclaimed evilly as they rubbed their hands together.
Meanwhile the Squads and Royal children were wandering around the house. However they didn't really see anything scary yet, so far the house seemed like an abandoned house.
"Um, are all haunted houses on earth like this?" Freya asked feeling a bit disappointed as she expected something better.
"No not really, there's normally actors in costumes and animatronics popping out at you." Jane explained.
"Yeah, but man is this a disappointment, I thought we'd be getting some scares, but nothing." Erick stated.
"Well if I saw a spider then I'd freakout." Josh muttered inaudibly under his breath.
As they were walking something started approaching them from behind. Rowdy, who was in the back, heard something moving from behind them. He turned around and saw a pink blob creature slithering up to them slowly. When he saw this he grabbed Oberon by the wind, getting his attention instantly as he didn't like someone touching his wings. He whipped around and was about to say something too Rowdy for touching his wings, but he didn't when he saw the blob.
"Um Guys! I think we got company!" Oberon called out to everyone else.
The rest of the group turned around and when they saw the blob they froze up. The Blob then split into fifteen smaller blobs, then everyone was either tied up in a black lasso or red strings and pulled into different rooms. The Pink blobs then entered into the rooms that the Squads and Royal children were in. Once the blobs were in the doors all slammed closed and locked, preventing any of them from escaping.
The blobs then started forming into what the Rainbow Squads and Royal children were afraid of. For Jenny it was a hallucination of her family restaurant being burned down while she was powerless to do anything. Erick it was a hallucination of him being stuck in a small cramped room with no one else in sight as he's claustrophobic. For Jane the blob took the form of mummies, which horrified her. Jake it was clowns, Ed Jenny rejecting him, Lila her family looking down on her for her sexuality, Hannah it was her friends telling her she failed as a leader and a friend. Iris it was all her loved ones becoming corrupted and saying she failed them, Mary it was Lila rejecting her. Oberon was losing his wings and other fairies were mocking him, Cen it was his father saying that he let him down and he'll never be a good king. Melody it was Josh saying that he didn't want to go out with her as they are too different, Freya it was her losing her mother and sisters all at once. Finally Josh it was a big black widow spider, which paralyzed him to the spot. The animal guides were all tied up in red strings and the black lasso, while they tried to get out Jack and John abruptly appeared in front of them.
"Why hello there! Are you all surprised to see us again?" Jack asked.
"What the?!" Paccia exclaimed, confused when she saw them.
"YOU TWO! I HAD A FEELING SOMETHING WAS OFF!" Amara screamed.
"Ahah! Oh yes! And you guessed right!" Jack laughed.
"Yes you did, oh but don't worry Craindre's little friends here won't be scaring the Squads and Royal children for long. As once they've fed on enough fear they'll take their hearts and feed them to Craindre." John explained.
"NO! YOU WOULDN'T DARE! YOU MONSTER!" Dillon screamed.
"Oh don't worry, it won't just be them, Craindre sent a few to go after Hannah's little sister as they thought some fear and a heart from a child would be much tastier." Jack exclaimed.
When the animal guides heard that they were horrified by what would happen to Hannah's family.
Meanwhile Charles and Lily were in a restaurant getting some food for dinner as they were meant to head home soon. However Charles had to go to the bathroom, so he told Lilly to wait for him outside of the door and to not go anywhere. The little girl was now sitting outside the bathroom waiting for her daddy to come out.
As she sat there a light shimmered in the corner of her little eye. She turned to see a pink fairy standing on the other side of another entrance door. The door was almost fully made of glass, aside from the frame and handle.
The Pink fairy then held up a bag of candies and a piece of paper that said "Want them, come and take them, they're all for you."
When Lilly read the note her eyes glimmered as she loved to have more candy. So she got up and started walking up to the door to open it and get the candy. As she was walked up to the door, Charles came out of the bathroom, feeling relieved after letting it all out. He then looked to where he saw Lilly sitting, but didn't see her anymore. He looked up and was horrified to see her going up to a pink blob thing that he knew was making her see it as something else.
Meanwhile back with the group Josh was backing up away from the giant spider terrified out of his mind and unsure of what to do. He felt his chest tightened and an asthma attack setting in slowly.
'What can I do?! What can I do?! What ON EARTH CAN I DO?!' Josh asked himself.
His arachnophobia was flying through the roof as he never saw a spider so big and black widows were the kind he feared the most. He tried to calm himself down, but all his efforts were in vain as his fear was out of control.
"Ugh! Why haven't I matured past this!" Josh shouted angrily.
However he then remembered what Umang had said to him earlier. He was still scared because he thought he'd automatically mature past it, but that wasn't the case. He was still afraid because he'd never faced his fears before, he's been using the maturity thing as a way to avoid facing his fears. Now it's finally time for him to face his fear of spiders once and for all, especially if he wants to save his friends. Even with all the fear coursing through his veins Josh got up and faced the spider.
"Alright you big ugly creature! It's time for me to finally face my fear once and for all!" Josh declared.
"RAINBOW POWER ACTION!" Josh called out and transformed into his Rainbow Squad form.
After the change Josh got into a battle stance and prepared himself both physically and mentally for a fight. The Black widow screeched and attacked by trying to impale Josh on one of its legs. However Josh jumped out of the way and started dodging all the attacks. He then summoned his enthusiasm gun and started shooting at it. The spider tried dodging the blasts but some of them managed to hit it causing it to almost turn back into its original form. It took a bit but after managing to hold its form, once it was stable again the spider turned to Josh. It then opened its fanged mouth and shrieked at him trying to get him scared. However Josh didn't allow his fear to weaken his will to fight for his friends.
"Nice try! But I'm done with being scared of spiders! I'm not allowing my fear to control me any more! I might hate spiders! But The one thing I hate more than anything else is losing my friends and family!" Josh declared in a stable broad voice.
He was then surrounded by a yellow light and a pair of angel wings appeared on his back. The spider was blinded by the light and it staggered back as the light was hurting its eyes. Josh then raised his hand and summoned a yellow sunflower. a yellow black instantly shot out of the sunflower and it hit the spider.
The spider shrieked in pain as the blast destroyed it, soon it exploded into absolutely nothing. Once it was gone the door was unlocked and Josh ran up to it. He bursted out of the room and when he left he saw Jack and John with the animal guides.
"HEY CLOWN AND COWBOY! I CONQUERED MY FEAR AND DESTROYED THAT THING!" Josh screamed, getting the brothers and animal guides attention.
They looked at him and when Jack and John saw Josh's wings they knew that he'd advance in his magic.
"Oh great! Now three of them have advanced!" John groaned when he saw that.
"Let's go brother! Let's see if Craindre's buddies had gotten Red's Little sister!" Jack whispered to John so Josh couldn't hear him.
The two brothers teleported away, leaving Josh to save the rest of his friends before the creatures got them. So he started using his new powers to first blast the door down then blast the creature. After a while he saved everyone, but was exhausted by the end of it all.
"Oh dear lord! I hope I'll never have to do that again." Josh said as he collapsed on the ground while Iris got the animal guides down.
"We'll see what happens, but Josh I'm proud of you!" Umang exclaimed happily as he stood over Josh.
"You are?" Josh asked.
"Yeah! You faced your fear and advanced in your magical abilities!" Iris exclaimed happily.
"Yeah and you also saved us! Thanks so much Josh!... Um hey tomorrow after you all are um... done with school, would you like to... watch a move?" Melody asked nervously, while also blushing a bit.
Josh blushed as well when he was asked that, but he agreed to go with her. Melody smiled and helped him up and back on his feat, so they could all leave.
"So you all want to continue trick or treating, or go home now?" Jane asked.
"Hmm I think we have about another hour, so let's go trick or treating for a bit longer." Ed explained.
"Yeah I think I'm still in the mood to get some more candy." Josh said.
Everyone else agreed and they all left the haunted house to continue on with their trick or treating before heading home. After an hour the Squads and Royal children all returned home to rest up for the night.
When Hannah entered the house she saw her mother, older brother, father, and little sister all sitting in the living room. They had some takeout sitting on the living room table, which Hannah was happy to see.
"Hey everyone I'm back!" Hannah called out. Her family looked at her and they smiled when they saw her in the doorway.
"Hey Hannah, come take a seat and have some dinner." Her mom said.
"Alright, I'm starving after trick or treating." Hannah said.
She then looked at her dad and saw that he seemed to be disturbed and a bit tired.
"Hey Dad you alright?" Hannah asked.
"Huh? Oh yeah I'm fine, just a little tired from tonight." Charles explained.
"Hmm... okay, if you say so." Hannah said then walked up to the table and sat down next to her brother.
Charles sat back and tried to relax a bit, however it wasn't easy. After he used his magic to stop Lilly from opening the door it was trying to resurface after not being used for so long.
His mind went back to that moment where Lilly was about to open the door to let the creature in. Charles stood there in horror before he did the only thing he could think of, even if he risked having his youngest finding out.
A red magical aura around his hand and he uttered a spell under his breath before casting it on the door. A magical lock then appeared on the door, which took Lilly off guard. She looked up and saw the pink fairy take on its true form as a scary blob monster as the sudden spell made it lose focus on its form.
When Lilly saw it for what it really was she started crying out of fear and ran up to her father. She hugged his leg and he comforted her while trying to hide his hand that had the magic still coming off of it. He also tried to hide his hair in his hoodie as it started turning red.
Charles looked back at the door and the creature glared at him before it slithered away from the area. He sighed in relief, but was still trying to hide his magic from everyone.
His mind returned the present as he felt his wife resting her head on his shoulder. He looked at his wife and saw she was cuddling up to him. Charles smiled for a bit, but still felt worried about the creature that came after his daughter. He also felt worried about his two oldest children learning how to use magic.
'Should I have told them all?... but after that incident I wanted my family to be safe so I thought that keeping them away from magic was a good thing. Ugh! Dad I wish you were here, you'd know what I should do in this situation.' Charles thought to himself as he looked up at the ceiling, he remembered his father along with his family's connections to magic.
