Chapter 11 The Tragedy
Several days later in the shadow realm Adrienne was in her room packing up some things for her travels. Lucifer has tasked her with going to other dimensions with a similar appeal in magic to their own. He wanted to collect samples of that magic for their ultimate plan to come. So she was determined to succeed as this is the final step before they can finally invade earth. Lucifer and Adrienne have understood that they won't be able to spread their negativity to the whole multiverse as long as the Rainbow Squads are in the picture. Which means that they need to elevate them first then they can go on and spread their darkness without any worries. However she did know that the Rainbow Squads did have a dimensional key which will allow them to travel to other realms.
"Alright so before I go I should ensure that the squads are unable to follow me, so I'll need to take their key first. After all, it's their only way to travel dimensions as human technology is so inferior to the power of magic. I do wonder how they could've ever lost touch with magic? Eh, it's not important how they did it, as they haven't been making any dimensional keys so I don't have anything to worry about," Adrienne said to herself out loud.
A knock was then heard on the door, and Adrienne looked back, curious on who it was. "Princess Adrienne your father has requested to see you," the voice of a servant was heard from the other side.
"Go tell him I'll be with him momentarily. I just have a few more items to pack," Adrienne explained.
"Alright your majesty I'll inform him of what you have said,'' The servant responded before departure to the throne room.
Later on Adrienne emerged from her own room with her bag in her arms now heading to the throne room. When she arrived she saw Lucifer sitting on his throne singing a piece of paper that one of the servants was showing him. "Father, you requested to see me?" Adrienne questioned as she came up to Lucifer.
Lucifer raised his head and saw Adrienne standing at the end of the stairs from the throne. He finished singing the paper, then sent the servant away before facing Adrienne. "Yes I'd like to inform you that the little experiment you've done for Shade and Craindre has been a huge success, now we need to see it in action. So when you go to collect the key, I'd like for you to bring Shade along with you. Craindre needs more tests done to determine if they are still stable, so they'll stay here till I say so," Lucifer explained.
"Understood father, I'll send him back as soon as the results are in, depending on the state he's in once that happens I'm sure that'll be all you need right?" Adrienne asked.
"Yes it will be, now run along and ensure that the Rainbow Squads cant follow you to the other dimensions," Lucifer responded, sending Adrienne away.
She nodded and left to fetch Shade then head to earth afterwards. She soon arrived outside of the room Shade was staying in, she opened the door and saw Shade sitting on a bed with his head facing down. "Hey Shade! I need you to come with me to earth now!" Adrienne demanded.
Shade looked up at her and she saw that the white in his eyes had completely turned black. The look on his face had no emotions whatsoever, which was just what she had wanted. He got up from the bed and walked over to Adrienne all while showing no emotions at all. Adrienne smirked as she roughly grabbed onto Shade and dragged him out with her.
Meanwhile on earth with Iris, who was in the room that the mirror her mother was in was being stored. Iris was kneeling down at the mirror with a sad expression on her face. She missed her parents greatly and while she had her mom right in front of her, she couldn't even hug her. So even though her mom was so close to her, she still felt so far away and wanted nothing more than to have her here with her now. A creek then echoed the room as the door was pushed open, Iris looked back, seeing Hannah and Paris standing at the door's entrance. "Hey Iris, how are you doing?" Hannah asked.
"N-Not so good..." Iris said sadly as she looked back to the mirror.
Hannah looked up to the mirror and frowned as she knew what it was and why Iris was so upset. Paris understood as well, as they finally felt something inside them changing, allowing them to feel and even understand emotions better. "Don't worry Iris, I know we can save your mom," Paris tried to reassure.
"I know, but... i-it doesn't make the pain hurt any less," Iris said as she put her hand on the mirror.
"Yeah it doesn't, but you don't need to endure it alone Iris, I'm here for you," Hannah said as she went up to Iris and hugged her from behind.
"R-Really?" Iris asked while looking back.
"Of course, you're more than just my friend now Iris, you're also my family, my cousin. Even though that's new info and really shocking, it just makes us closer," Hannah explained with a big smile on her face.
Iris returned the same joyous smile and returned the hug Hannah gave her with just as much love in it. Paris watched the two cousins embracing each other; wishing that they could share that love with family. Unfortunately they were just a shadow shifter and because of that they didn't have a family. Paris placed a hand on their chest as they had a slight feeling of pain in their chest.
"W-whats this?" Paris asked as they held their chest.
"Hey Paris, is everything alright?" Iris asked.
"Y-Yeah I-I just felt this strange pain in my chest," Paris explained as they removed their hand.
"Oh, well what were you feeling?" Hannah questioned.
"Well I saw you and Iris embracing each other, and I want to know what it's like to have a family, then that pain suddenly hit me in the chest," Paris answered.
"Hmm, I think you experienced a feeling of jealousy. It's common to feel that towards someone when they have something you want," Iris described.
"Huh, strange, I guess with having emotions now I'm unconsciously able to feel others," Paris said.
"Well that is what all humans do Paris, so welcome to humanity," Hannah said, trying to make a joke.
Paris didnt get it but still did appreciate it regardless; they did want to become a human after all. Just then Jane bursted in the room with a panicked look on her face. "Jane?! What's going on? Why do you look so panicked?" Hannah asked concerned.
"It's Adrienne and Shade! The two where spotted at central park trashing the place with their dark magic!" Jane blurted out.
"Oh no! We better get their and stop them then!" Hannah declared.
"Yeah! And this time I'm coming as I want to be their to finally set Light free!" Iris exclaimed.
"Alright then, Paris you wanna come and face up against your old abuser?" Hannah asked.
Paris backed up slightly after hearing that question, they weren't sure if they were ready for that yet. "Um no thanks I'll just um... cheer you all from the side lines," Paris said.
"Okay I understand, some would rather not meet their abusers ever again, so it's alright that you don't want to see her again," Hannah said.
Paris felt reassured by this, and took on the form of a teenage girl with green hair and clothes, intending to blend in with the surroundings in the park. Later on in the park, Adrienne and Shade where floating in the air, waiting for the Squads to show up. Adrienne knew that the Rainbow Squads would soon arrive after the trouble she and Shade caused with their shadows. She was hoping that with what she did to Shade he would be immune to the Squads magical flower attacks. A flash of Rainbow colored light instantly appeared some distance away from the two. The light cleared up and the Rainbow Squads came into view, all now flying with their angel wings.
"Hello Adrienne, what brings you to the city? Here to see the flowers in Springfield blooming during the spring?" Josh sarcastically asked.
"Pesh as if I would ever waste my time with low life plants. I'm here just to take a little something from you all, and test out a little experiment I performed on Shade here," Adrienne responded.
"Oh really? Well I doubt it will work against us! After all, we've beaten you and your minions before and we'll do it again!" Erick declared.
"HA! We'll just see about that, won't we Rainbow Squads!" Adrienne exclaimed before she pulled out her scythe, charging full speed.
Shade looked at the Rainbow Squads as he pulled out a weapon, that being a staff, charging at them alongside Adrienne. The Squads all scattered instantly, avoidant the attack Adrienne and Shade attempted to throw at them. As soon as they scattered black blurs attacked half of the Squads. The four remaining looked and saw that the black blurs where the Shadow monsters Adrienne and Shade had created.
"Squads! Me and Iris will keep Adrienne and Light occupied! The rest of you help the rest of the team!" Hannah commanded.
The remaining Squads nodded and flew down to their fallen friends, leaving Hannah in the sky. Iris instantly flew up and now stood flying next to Hannah, her face showing determination to finally get Light back after all this time.
"Hehe well then, 2v2 I like those odds. Shade go on and attack Iris!" Adrienne commanded.
Shade obeyed the orders given to him, he flew right at Iris with his weapon in hand. Iris's eyes widen as she blocked the incoming attack with her scepter. Hannah was about to react and help, however Adrienne swopped in, with her scythe swinging it madly around attempting to harm Hannah with all she's got. Thankfully Hannah was able to block Adrienne's weapon with her sword. The two blades collided making a harsh crashing sound as they scraped against one another. Adrienne grinned as she pushed against Hannah's sword much harder forcing her back slightly. Hannah returned this by shoving Adrienne's scythe with more strength and force than her opponent.
Iris and Shade meanwhile fought harshly, even though Shade was doing most of the offense and Iris was doing all the defense. Iris looked into the eyes of the man she still loved dearly; even though Light had done serious harm as Shade, Iris knew that it wasn't him and he was still in there.
"Light! Please! Come back to me! I know you can hear me and I know you're still in their!" Iris pleaded, desperation in her eyes.
Shade didn't respond and continued looking at Iris with his black and red eyes, continuing to fight her as if his love for her did not exist. On the ground hiding in some nearby bushes to conceal them was Paris. They made sure that they weren't insight as they were terrified of what Adrienne would do to them if she even so much as saw them. However as they observed the fight something felt... off; Paris knew Adrienne well as they had lived with her for a very long time. So for her to just seemingly start a fight like this with no seeming purpose was off to them. They knew that if this was a plan to try and destroy the Rainbow Squads then she would be fighting differently. Mostly she would be using way more shadows and better strategies than just swinging her scythe around violently.
"Why on earth is Adrienne fighting so recklessly? It's not like her to be doing something like this... unless! Oh no! This has to be a distraction!!! That means someone or something must be causing trouble somewhere else!" Paris cried out as they came to the conclusion.
Terror filled them as they thought about what could be happening in a different location. While Paris liked being able to feel emotions, actually being able to feel terror and the sensation of the emotion itself wasn't as pleasant as positive emotions. They shook it off thou as they had to get going to find out what Adrienne and Shade where trying to distract the Squads from. Paris ran back to Iris's house as they felt like they could get a good look at the city from there. Their shape shifting abilities would allow them to transform their eyesight and with the altitude of Irisi's home they would be able to see the whole city from there. Paris took on their real black shadowy humanoid form again before they turned their arms into wings and started flying off into the sky.
Thankfully with them being unable to get tired they were able to reach the place in a few minutes. When they reached the house, Paris spotted someone outside of the house. Both curious and worried Paris flew down onto the roof and spied on the strange figure to see who they were. Paris creped up to the edge of the roof and was shocked to see another shadow shifter near the house. They wondered why one of their own kind would be here, as Adrienne and Lucifer would normally just have them go out to collect negative emotions from humans.
However Paris's questions were soon answered when they saw the other shadow shifter pull out the dimensional key. Due to their ability to change shape and form they can also extend their limbs as far as they desire. So Paris knew that they stretched their arm into the house so they wouldn't be spotted by anyone else as they could also see through any limbs of their bodies. Therefore making an easy heist with the only item the Squads and Iris had to travel dimensions.
"Hey! You Stop what you're doing now!" Paris called out as they jumped off the roof landing four feet away from the intruder.
"Oh look who it is, number 584 the traitor who poisoned the princess and ran away," the Shadow Shifter said.
"I'm Paris now! And I won't allow you to steal that key!" Paris declared.
"Ehg you're now using a human name now? What a disgrace to our kind and our reason for creation," the Shadow Shifter said.
"I would've been killed like you will be to! I wanted to live my own life and now I have that chance! You can to if you make the right choice!" Paris declared wanting to help the other Shadow Shifters.
"You think I would ever do that? No I'm loyal to the king and princess and I will accomplish my duties for her!" The other Shadow Shifter said as they gripped tightly onto the key.
The other Shadow Shifter then ran off the edge of the house and flew off to the battlefield. Paris jumped off the cloud and followed the Shadow Shifter desperate to stop them from bringing the key to Adrienne. The two shadow shifters flew in the sky for sometime till Paris noticed that they were almost at the battlefield. They looked down and saw that most of the shadow monsters were already restored but the main team were still busy with the rest. Hannah and Iris meanwhile were still fighting Adrienne and Shade; that told Paris that they had to hurry up.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!!" Paris screamed as they flew faster to the other Shadow shifter.
The other Shadow Shifter turned around and saw Paris rapidly approaching them. Paris instantly crashed right into them and the two shadow shifters began to fight each other over the key. Adrienne, having heard the shout, looked up and saw the Shadow Shifter she sent out and the traitor who poisoned her. She smiled wickedly as an idea to torment the Rainbow Squads entered her head. Hannah showed her sword against Adrienne's scythe which brought her back to the battle. Adrienne looked at Hannah, wearing the same grin that appeared on her face moments ago.
"Hehe, Oh Hannah, let me show you a little something that happens when someone betrays me!" Adrienne mocked before she roughly shoved Hannah away from her.
Adrienne flew up to where Paris and the other Shadow Shifters, who were still fighting over the key. "Oh Shadows! I got a little something for you two!" Adrienne called out.
Paris and the other Shadow Shifter looked and when Paris saw his former ruler their eyes widened and if they had a heart it would have dropped, if they also had skin it would've paled. Adrienne raised her hand and a black ball of magic started forming around her finger tips. Upon seeing this Paris instantly knew that Adrienne was planning on destroying them and the other Shadow Shifter.
Hannah saw this as well along with the other Squads and Iris and they all felt their hearts drop upon seeing their friend in danger. Hannah extended her wings and tried to race up to Paris and save them. Pairs looked to see Hannah trying to fly up to them and save them from obliteration so they reached out their arm for her to grab. Unfortunately before Hannah could even get anywhere closer to them Adrienne fired the blast obliterating Paris and the other shadow shifter in an instant.
"NO! PARIS! YOU MANIEACK! HOW COULD YOU! AHHHA!" each of the Squads screamed as they saw their friend being killed.
Hannah just froze in the air as tears started welling up in her eyes and her heart turned half gray upon seeing this. With this her hair and eyes also turned the same amount of gray to match her heart.
Adrienne quickly grabbed the key that survived her blast as it only affected shadows. She looked down and smirked when she saw how Hannah's hair had turned from red to gray so easily after losing just one worthless shadow shifter. "Hehe Aww weakened that much after such a worthless creature parished?" Adrienne asked mockingly.
"They weren't worthless!" Hannah angrily muttered under her breath.
"Oh what's that? I can't hear you," Adrienne said.
"I said, THEY WEREN'T WORTHLESS! THEY WERE OUR FRIEND! AND YOU JUST TOOK THEM AWAY FROM US!" Hannah screamed angrily as tears flowed out of her eyes.
"HA whatever! Shade, come over here!!" Adrienne called out.
Shade stopped fighting Iris, roughly shoved her to the ground below and was about to fly up to Adrienne, when something wrapped around his ankle. He looked and saw Lila had tossed one of her ribbons to pull him back down. "Not so fast! You took away our friend! So I'm gonna take one of your servants and at least restore someone Iris cares about!" Lila declared as she summoned her Morning Glory flower and blasted it at Shade to try and purify him.
The blast cleared and everyone looked to see if Shade had become light again. However they were shocked to see that he still remained as Shade and didn't change at all. Iris' eyes widened when she saw this, herself and everyone else were shocked by this turn of events. A black aura instantly surrounded Shade and he was pulled away from the group. He stopped next to Adrienne and she gunned down at them, clearly pleased with something.
"HA Looks like the experiment I did with Jack and John's hate worked! Who knew mixing it in with Craindre's fear would make it so powerful! Now that I'm done with this I need to go now, Shade go on home and wait for further order!" Adrienne commanded as she opened a portal to her world before roughly shoving Shade in.
After he was through, Adrienne closed it before opening another one for her to travel through. However before she could even try to go through it she heard a loud cry from behind her. She looked back and saw Hannah rapidly approaching her with her sword out and a furious look splatter all over her face.
"YOU KILLED OUR FRIEND! I WON'T EVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THAT!!" Hannah screamed as tears flowed down her face.
Adrienne didn't have time to cast a spell to stop her and due to how fast Hannah was moving both of the girls flew right thru the portal when Hannah smashed into Adrienne. As soon as they passed through the portal it closed right up leaving the remaining Squads and Iris left in shock.
They all stood in place for sometime and processed all the current events that had transpired. Their friend Paris, a friendly shadow shifter who only wanted to be human, was now gone because of Adrienne. Not only that but Hannah was now stuck in another world and because Adrienne had stolen the key they no longer had any way to find and bring her back. However that was the least of their problems as a question has now arisen in all of them. What on earth were they going to tell Hannah's family, mainly her mom and little sister who still doesn't know about this.
