Chapter 10 The Story

The following day the Squads, their animal guides, Daniel, Paris, Iris, Marry, Smith, and the Royal Children all meet up with Charlie to hear his story. They all sat down in an isolated part of a trekking forest and Charlie began talking about everything. Even though he had promised himself to never recall this traumatic event ever again in his life.

"Okay, so Hannah, Daniel, I know you two and all your friends want me to explain everything and I'm sorry it took me this long. I-It, it's just something I don't like to talk about," Charlie explained.

"Hey dad it's alright you don't need to worry," Hannah reassured.

"Yeah I'm sure whatever it is you can tell us," Daniel added.

"I agree, I can't fully understand how trauma works, but I do think I'm starting to understand. As I believe I'm relieving some bad memories of my time back in the negative kingdom before I left," Paris explained.

"And I know I have some trauma from when I was brainwashed," Marry included.

"So Charlie, rest assured that no matter what we understand, whatever your story holds, we'll support you," Smith stated.

Charlie smiled after hearing this, feeling much better than before after hearing their supporting words and reassurance. "Okay so first off, I have magic from my father, as he's not from earth... h-he's from Iris's kingdom," Charlie admitted hesitantly.

"WHAT! Grandpa is from Iris's world!" Daniel screamed in shock.

"Y-Yes he was, but that's not all. Hannah when I first saw you with that necklace for the first time, I just thought it was a coincidence, but after seeing you use your magic I knew it was the same necklace," Charlie continued making everyone curious on what he meant.

"Hannah, your grandfather used to be in the Red Squad before retiring to be a father to me and your uncles," Charlie finished with the explanation.

"What?! He was?!" Hannah asked, shocked. Everyone else was also as shocked as Hannah and Danile was; everything Charlie was saying just didn't sound real.

"Yes, and that's not all, back in the day when I was younger your grandfather used to be friends with two orphaned brothers. Brothers that he and your great uncle had taken in from the streets, the two brothers were Jack and John, and they were very different from how they are now," Charlie stated as he took a shaky breath in.

"Different how?" Cen asked curiously.

"Well different as Jack wasn't such a creep to girls who are younger than him, and not a creepy guy in general, John meanwhile wasn't so violent and was more of a kind caring man who'd wouldn't harm anyone," Charlie described who the two men used to be.

"I kinda can't see them having been like that," Daniel stated as he recalled how creepy and gross Jack was to Hannah.

"Well believe me they were, and I feel like I should say one last thing before I tell the full story," Charlie declared before taking a deep breath for the last secret he was about to tell to his two eldest children and their friends.

Everyone waited in anticipation as they waited to hear the final secret Charlie would say before he would finally tell the full story. "Hannah, Daniel, Iris, I feel like you three need to know this the most, but... My grandfather, your great grandfather, was... he was the old king of The kingdom of Positivity before your great uncle took the throne," Charlie finally revealed the last secret.

This one was the most shocking to everyone, Iris, Daniel, and Hannah were taken aback by this news the most. This meant that the three of them were all family, Iris was Hannah and Daniel's cousin. While Iris was slightly happy to hear that two of her friends were her cousins, she couldn't believe to learn it like this as she imagined something like this in a different manner.

"Wait! Amanda! Weren't you Grandpa's animal guide in the past?! How come you never said anything to us about who he was?!" Daniel asked, shocked.

"Well I didn't fully realize that it was him! He looked very different in the photos in your home, plus I knew he had a son but I've never formally meet your father back then. So I just thought that your grandfather was just someone who just had some similar features to the previous Red Squad," Amanda explained.

"That is a fair point, after all, I have seen some humans here who do look similar to each other," Melody said.

"Okay, I guess that makes sense, there are many people who look alike and it could be hard to tell if they are the same person until you talk and meet them in real life," Daniel stated as he sat back a bit.

He had to process things for a moment as he couldn't believe his grandfather wasn't just from Iris's kingdom, but that his great grandfather was the old king. It was also hard to believe that Iris turned out to also be his cousin and that was the most shocking news of them all. He then felt someone's hand on his, and he looked to see Rowdy holding his hand before resting his head on his shoulder. Daniel smiled at this and leaned his head on Rowdy's, feeling much better now.

Charlie watched his son's affection for Rowdy, feeling happy that his son had found a wonderful boyfriend who was helping him. Charlie then took in a deep breath and at last finally started telling them about his past.

"Okay everyone, now it's time for me to tell you all the story, the story on why I stopped using magic, and how Jack and John's hearts had become infected with hate, and negativity," Charlie said as he began his story.

Many years ago, a young Charlie was reading through a book of spells trying to learn a new spell. "Hey little bro! Are you reading through those spell books again?" Charlie heard a voice ask.

He looked up and saw his older brother Rave standing over him, using a levitation spell to carry some of his school stuff. "Um yeah, after all I want to be as powerful as dad! So I'm gonna need to work hard in order to be just like him!" Charlie declared happily.

"Bro you've already got your angel wings, doesn't that mean you're already at dads level?" Rave asked.

"Not even close! It's more than just the wings bro! I also need to be able to perform many advanced level spells and be able to use lots of magic without getting tired!" Charlie exclaimed as he got up holding the book close to his chest.

"Hey kid, that's not all magic is about you know," the two brothers heard a voice say. The two looked back and saw a man with a well built figure, red hair, green eyes, and a science lab coat.

"Hey Jack, you're off work early," Rave said while smiling and waving to Jack.

"I know, but when I heard Charlie here had earned his angel wings, I just had to come over to congratulate you!" Jack exclaimed happily with a proud smile on his face.

"Really! You did! Thank you Jack!" Charlie thanked, happily.

"Any time, oh and my brother John and I have organized a dinner party for tomorrow back in the kingdom to celebrate! After all a young prince earning his wings at this age is huge!" Jack informed, happily.

"Wow! Really! I can't wait! I've only had my wings for a month and everyone has been congratulating me and giving me gifts!" Charlie exclaimed, almost overwhelmed with the amount of praise and joy he was getting from his wings.

"Hehe well it's pretty hard to get angel wings and with how young you are it's rare. After all, most who are in the royal family only receive them when they are in their twenties or older, so for you to have earned them at only fourteen, it's incredible," Jack explained.

Charlie smiled even wider after hearing that, it made him so happy to see his hard work had paid off. It was even greater with how everyone was congratulating him and showering him with compliments and gifts. While he did know that his brother Rave preferred to focus on sports on earth he knew that deep down Rave wanted angel wings as well.

Later on Charlie was walking through the streets of the Kingdom of Positivity, the streets were littered with many people with colored hair. Some people were buying some fruits or potion ingredients, others were using their magic to entertain the young children, while some kids were using their magic to play. As Charlie was walking down the clean smooth white bricked road he heard a child laughing till a sudden thud reached his ears. He looked and saw that the child who was a little girl had fallen down, she sat up, then began to cry. Charlie looked and saw she had scraped her knee, he frowned after seeing the poor little girl. He walked over to the little girl, got down on his knees, gently sat her knee up before making her face him. The little girl looked up at him as he wiped her tears off her face.

Charlie then put his hand over her injury and uttered, "May this spell make this pain go away."

A red glow then surrounded his hand and after a moment Charlie removed his hand, now her knee was fully healed. The little girl smiled and hugged him tightly before getting up and running off. Charlie smiled and got up before continuing on his way.

"Well Charlie that was a very kind act," Charlie heard a familiar voice say.

He looked up and saw his grandfather standing a few feet away from him, with a smile on his face. "Hey Grandpa! How has your day been so far?" Charlie asked.

"So far so good, I'm currently on my way to the farm fields to check up on some things. Oh and if you want to see your father he's in the lab talking to Jack and John about some research they're doing," His grandfather informed.

"Oh! I've wanted to go there for some time, but dad doesn't let me go there for a while now," Charlie said, expressing his slight annoyance to his father.

"Well if anyone asks, say you had my permission, I still am king after all," His grandfather pointed out.

"Yes you are! Well till you're ready to retire and uncle is ready to become king," Charlie said.

"Hehe, I know, and I can't wait for that. Once I'm finally retired I'm going to spend my days playing the cello and magical mazes," His Grandfather said while smiling. Charlie smiled as well as he knew that his Grandfather was excited for retirement. He also hoped that he would invite him over for a game of magical mazes as it was a lot of fun.

"I'll see you later Grandpa! I'm gonna go see Dad, Jack, and John at the lab!" Charlie exclaimed as he ran past his grandfather with a big smile on his face.

The grandfather smiled as he watched his grandson run off to the labs to meet his son and the two brothers. Charlie soon arrived outside of a building with a glass dome roof. Charlie looked around and was surprised to see his older brother standing outside of the building, with John standing next to him and patting him on the head.

"Hey Rave! John!" Charlie called out as he ran up to them.

The two looked up and saw Charlie running up to them, John gave a warm smile when he saw the young boy. Rave also smiled when he saw his younger brother running up to them with an excited smile on his face.

"Hey little bro, what brings you here?" Rave asked.

"Well I wanted to see Dad, Jack, and John!" Charlie exclaimed happily.

"Really? Well my brother and your father are inside the lab, I just came out for a break as I'm pretty tired," John explained.

"Well can you take me there! Dad hasn't brought me here for a long time! I wanna see what you and Jack have been working on in here!" Charlie exclaimed with his eyes sparkling.

"Hmm, I'm not sure about that, what me and Jack have been working on is pretty dangerous, not to mention it's scientist," John explained, pointing out all the warning signs.

"Aww Please! I promise it'll be quick!" Charlie begged the warnings flying right over his head.

John gave the young Charlie a worried look, but the eyes the young boy was giving him had melted his heart. "Ugh, fine but don't go anywhere near its containment! Understood?" John demanded.

"Yes sir! I'll stay far away from it," Charlie answered.

"Good, Rave you want to come with?" John asked.

"Na not really, I'm not really that interested in what you guys are working on," Rave answered while leaning against the wall.

"Okay, we'll be out in a moment, the work shift is almost over and Jack doesn't want to stay late tonight," John explained.

Rave nodded, making John smile before he took Charlie by the hand and led him inside the lab. Charlie looked around the lab and was amazed by all the magical experiments around him. Thru some windows he could see some of the scientists trying to make new potions. Others were testing out some magical items that they had made.

"Wow this place is so cool! I know when I grow up I'm going to be study all kinds of magic and teach it to my kids!" Charlie exclaimed excitedly.

"Hehe, just be careful after all not all magic types aren't good," John warned.

"Yeah I know after all dark and negative magic is bad and corruptive," Charlie said.

"Yes, not to mention that kind of magic also takes parts of your sanity and humanity every time you use it," John stated as he cringed at such a horrific thought.

Charlie also cringed as he heard horrifying tales of unfortunate souls who's hearts became tainted and corrupted due to the use of dark and or negative magic. The two soon arrived in the lab that John and Jack where working in. John lifted his hand up and uttered a spell under his breath; the door then opened up showing Jack and Charlie's father in the room.

"Hey bro I brought someone with me," John called out, grabbing both Jack and Charlie's fathers attention.

Jack turned around and gave a big smile when he saw who it was. "Hey Wade, it's your son Charlie!" Jack exclaimed happily.

Wade looked over and frowned when he saw his youngest son standing at the entrance of the room. "John, I didn't want Charlie to come here because of what you and Jack were studying here. After all, you know that this stuff is dangerous!" Wade exclaimed, showing his concerns for his child.

"Don't worry it's alright, I told him to stay away from the containment it's in," John reassured.

"What is it you two are working on that dad doesn't want me to see?" Charlie questioned.

"It's that black thing in there," Jack answered while pointing to a jar that contained a strange black substance in it.

The substance was moving around inside the jar and looked like it was trying to get out. Charlie was startled by it but also curious on what it was and why his dad was so concerned over it, as to him it looked harmless.

"Son, Please go out with your brother, I don't want you near this thing," Wade pleaded as his concerns were rising by the second.

"But why? What is it? Dad, I want to know!" Charlie exclaimed.

Wade signed to this as he had a feeling that Charlie wont leave till he gets answers to his questions. "Son, that thing right there is pure concentrated hate and negative emotions. Jack and John had discovered a pool of it that leaked here from the negative kingdom. They've been running tests on it as they want to know how dangerous it is," Wade explained.

"Really? But why test the dangers of it though?" Charlie asked as he and John walked into the room more, with the door closing behind them.

"Well we want to see if it can be used to help out in potential battles, after all according to our research it can allow someone to regenerate serious injuries. It can even allow them to regrow an entire limb that has been sliced off!" Jack exclaimed, fascinated by the discoveries he and his brother had made.

"Not going to ask how you were able to discover that, but cool!" Charlie exclaimed, just as fascinated.

"Yes and I didn't want you to be near it till I knew you could be safe," Wade started with a scowl on his face, directed to both John and Charlie.

"Alright dad! I understand I'll leave and wait for you all to be-" Charlie was cut off when a sudden explosion went off causing the whole room to shake.

"Wow! Oh no! Looks like something went wrong in the testing room nearby!" John cried out in a panic.

"I-it's not that bad right?!" Charlie asked, concerned.

"Unless the director makes an announcement no it's not," Jack said.

Right after those words left his mouth a path of magic entered the room and the director's voice came out from it. "Everyone! This is not a drill! Evacuate the facility immediately! A test has gone severely wrong! More explosions are about to go off so get moving!" The director cried out before ending the announcement.

"Okay! Now we can panic! RUN!" Jack screamed prompting the other men to move.

John reopened the door and they all ran out of the room just as another explosion went off. As it went off Charlie looked back and saw the lab walls were starting to give way. He looked to the jar that had the hate and negativity inside and saw that rubble was falling around it, threatening to possibly destroy it. Despite promising not to go near it, Charlie ran to the jar, as he didn't want Jack and John's hard work to go to waste.

"CHARLIE FORGET THE EXPERIMENT! WE NEED TO LEAVE!" Wade called out to his son.

Charlie didn't listen, he soon reached the experiment, managing to rip it off the shelf just as another bit of rubble crashed on where it used to be. Charlie smiled a bit, proud of himself, unfortunately it was short lived as a third explosion went off throwing Charlie onto his side. He was then greeted with darkness as something hit his head. It thankfully only lasted for a few moments as the impact wasn't that severe, Charlie regained consciousness and saw his dad, Jack, and John all running up to him trying to help him.

He looked to his right and saw that the jar had rolled away from him; a fourth explosion went off, this time sparking a fire in the room. Jack stopped for a moment as a bit of rubble fell in front of him.

However it was on fire causing it to explode immediately after making contact with the ground. Some debris flew around the room, unfortunately some smashed right into the upper part of Jack's face, burning and cutting him at the same time. Jack screamed in agony covering his face as his eyes were severely injured along with his upper face. John whipped around as soon as he heard his brother screams, a big mistake as other debris smashed into his chest. Setting his clothes on fire while also burning his chest, John screamed in pain as he fell to the floor. Wade looked back at his two friends horrified upon seeing them injured, he quickly grabbed onto his son as more of the building came down.

"Charlie, don't worry we'll get-!" Wade got interrupted as a final explosion went off and the room finnally began to collapse.

Without much thought Wade used a teleportation spell to get himself and Charlie out of the area. Charlie looked at Jack who moved his hands off one of his eyes, allowing him to see the two disappear as Charlie reached out to him. In the blink of an eye the two were gone leaving the two brothers behind.

The two upon seeing this felt anger boil up inside them as they believed their closest friend had abandoned them to die. Right before the room fully came down the hate and negativity was released from its container. Detecting the negative emotions emitting from the two brothers it split apart, lunging at the two one hitting Jack's injured face, and John's injured chest.

Meanwhile outside Charlie and Wade teleported outside the building just as most of it came down. Rave was outside worried sick about his father and little brother. Once he saw the two appear a few meters away from him, he immediately bolted towards them crushing the two in a hug.

"DAD! CHARLIE! OH THANK GOODNESS YOU'RE ALIVE! I GOT SO WORRIED WHEN THE EXPLOSIONS STARTED!" Rave cried out as a wave of relief washed over him.

"Hey Rave it's okay we're fine, but I need to go back!" Wade stated as he put Charlie down.

"What? Why?" Rave asked.

"Jack and John are still in there, the room we were in collapsed and I didnt think when I teleported. They're my best friends and I need to go back for them! I don't want to lose them! The two are very important to me just as much as my family! So Rave take your brother home and I'll inform you of their condition when I find them!" Wade exclaimed as he put Charlie in Raves arms before teleporting back into the building, despite the dangers.

Rave looked down to Charlie, whose face had that of horror written all over it because of what had happened because of him. He felt like punching himself as if had not gone back for the experiment then maybe Jack and John wouldn't have gotten hurt. Rave, seeing how upset his brother was, just patted him on the head, before turning around and taking him home to recover.

Several hours had passed and not a single word about Jack and John had been given to Charlie or his brother. With the worry and guilt eating away at him Charlie decided to go out for a walk to clear his mind. He also decided to fly around a bit as he hadn't gotten the chance to all week.

After a while Charlie was deep enough into the woods so he wouldn't be spotted by anyone from earth. So using magic Charlie let his wings out and was about to take off when he heard a twig snap behind him. The young boy looked back scared he was seen by a human, however instead he was greeted with Jack covering his upper face.

"Jack! Holy crap you're alive! I'm so re- Agh!" Charlie was cut off as someone punched him in the face from the side, knocking him to the floor.

He looked up and saw John standing over him, however his eyes had fury and hatred filling them. "J-John, what's gotten into you?!" Charlie asked, confused and scared.

Jack then ran up to him and smashed his foot onto Charlie's back pinning him to the floor. "YOU LITTLE BRAT! IF YOU HAD NOT GONE BACK THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED TO US!" Jack screamed while taking his hand off his face.

Charlie's eyes widened upon seeing Jack's face which was severely burned and scarred from the fire. Charlie then felt Jack gripped tightly onto his wings, before he began painfully pulling them.

"YOU DON'T DESERVE THESE WINGS!" Jack screamed.

In one strong yank Charlie screamed in pain as he felt his wings being torn off before darkness came to him. The last thing he saw before passing out were the two brothers, people he looked up to walking away with his wings in tow.

Back to the present, Charlie gripped onto his shoulder while rubbing his back where his wings used to be.

Everyone sat there shocked as the full story sank into their minds and consciousness. Hannah and Daniel couldn't believe that their father had gone through something so bad and had lost his wings in the process.

Now they understood why he didn't say anything about this or his own magic. It was because he didn't want them to make the mistake he did and put themselves into dangerous situations due to curiosity of magic and experiments with it.
