Chapter 13 The Purity
The following day, everyone was standing outside of the school waiting for the bus to arrive as they were having a field trip. Iris was very excited to see where they were going.
"Ohh this is exciting I can't wait to see where we're going!" Iris exclaimed excitedly.
"Yeah I heard that we're going to Springfield's Future Science Lab. There Dr. Willington is going to show us how he plans on making the future a better place," Ed explained.
"Well I heard that our last stop is going to a beach and I think that after everything that happened we need to relax," Jake said.
"Yeah I agree I need some down time to get a tan, my skin is getting pale," Jane explained.
The bus then arrived and everyone excitedly got on it. The teacher then came on and did a head count before making an announcement. "When we get to our stop I need you all to pair up in groups of two or three, and don't wander away from your partners, we don't want anyone getting lost," the teacher explained. Everyone nodded and started choosing their partners.
"Hey Jane wanna be my partner?" Iris asked.
"Hmm sure why not," Jane said.
"Aww babe I wanted to be your partner," Erick complained jokingly.
"You are my partner babe. You're my boyfriend, Iris is only my friend," Jane explained.
"Ha I know babe I was just teasing you," Erick said while hugging Jane who giggled.
"Aww you two are so sweet together," Iris said.
"Thanks Iris," Jane said before laying back in her seat, putting on her headphones, and listening to an audio book. They soon arrived at the tower and everyone got off the bus and waited for the teacher to let them know when they could head inside.
"JANE! Michell lost her necklace!" a girl called out.
"JANE! Jim's got car sick or bus sick!" a boy called out.
"J-Jane! Marven's about to get into a fight with another boy from a different school!" a boy called out.
Jane then ran up to Michell first and handed her the necklace. "Here I found it on the bus floor when I got off," Jane explained.
"Ohh thank you!" Michell said as she took her necklace and put it back on.
Jane then ran over to Jim then helped him to a shady area and gave him some water. "The bus got really hot and it was making a lot of curves. You just need to sit here in the shade for a bit and drink some water to cool down," Jane explained.
"Ugh, thanks Jane," Jim said and took a sip from the water.
Jane then ran over to Marven and the other school boy to stop the fight. "HEY! What happened here?" Jane asked in a demanding tone.
"This knuckle head here pushed me!" Marven exclaimed.
"No I didn't, I just bumped into you!" the boy argued back.
"Hey! Hey! Listen, we're standing in front of one of our cities most important labs ever and this might be your only chance to see it. So are you going to waste time fighting and either get detention or be suspended, are you going to drop it and have fun?" Jane asked, giving the boys an ultimatum.
"Um well, I don't want to get detention and get in trouble with my parents so I'll drop it," Marven said.
"Yeah me too and hey thanks for keeping us from making that mistake," the other boy said.
"Hey, just doing what I can to help others," Jane explained.
"Yeah and this is why I think you should run for student body president. Jane you'd be perfect for that role," a girl suggested.
"Oh well-" Jane was about to say before Erick rushed in and said, "Hey babe why don't we look around."
"Okay babe, and I'll think about that," Jane said before leaving with Erick.
"Babe are you sure that's a good idea after all you're already busy enough," Erick stated.
"Yeah, but I don't want to let anyone down," Jane explained.
"I know you don't but you need to make time for yourself and- huh?!" Erick then noticed that Jane had run off somewhere else.
"Hey Erick! If you're looking for Jane she's helping some kids who got lost at the entrance!" a girl called out to Erick and pointed to where she saw Jane going. Erick thanked the girl and ran over to the entrance of the lab and saw that Jane was indeed there calming down some lost children.
"Sigh... Babe, I love you," Erick said as he went to join his girlfriend.
Later in the day, the class was now exploring the lab and Jane was constantly being asked by other students for help. Iris and Erick watched as she ran around effortlessly helping as many people as possible.
"Man Jane is working really hard," Iris said.
"Yeah she is, but I'm kinda worried about her. She's so focused on everyone else that she's not worrying about herself," Erick said.
"Yeah I agree, while it's great to help others out, there's gotta be a balance between helping others and helping yourself," Iris explained.
"Yeah, but I guess Jane just wants to do what she can to make others happy, but I feel like she should take a break and let them know they can also ask the teachers for help," Erick said.
"Yeah... I'm going to go talk to her about it and let her know she needs to rest," Iris said and walked over to Jane.
Just as Jane was giving water to another student she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. "Huh? Oh hey Iris what's up?" Jane asked.
"I just wanted to talk to you about something. Is that okay?" Iris asked.
"Yeah sure what is it?" Jane asked back.
"Well I've noticed how hard you've been working and I wanted to ask if you could ask everyone to have the teacher help them out as well?" Iris asked.
"Um I would, but I don't want to seem rude by refusing to help," Jane explained.
"I know, but there's only so much you can do. There's only one of you and you need to set a balance with helping yourself and helping others. That's sometimes the purest thing you can do, along with asking others to help you," Iris explained.
"Yeah, but I just can't bring myself to say no to someone in need," Jane explained.
"I know, but sometimes asking for help when you have too much to do is a better option for your own well being than just pounding yourself into the ground," Iris said.
"... I'll think about it," was all Jane said before the class moved on to the next part of the tour.
Meanwhile in the Shadow realm, Samuel was standing on the balcony looking out at the ruined kingdom beyond the balcony. As he was staring he started having flashbacks to times before. He remembered playing pirates with Iris, having tea with his sister, and the day Iris announced she found the guy she loved. His hair started turning from black to purple again and his eyes started returning to blue as more of his positive memories came back.
Just then Adrienne came out to the balcony and noticed the positivity emitting off of Samuel. "HEY! Samuel, what's going on?" Adrienne demanded to know what Samuel was doing.
"Where is she?" Smith asked in a demanding tone.
"What did you say to me?" Adrienne asked, offended by his tone.
Smith then whipped around and faced Adrienne and asked again while going in for attack, "WHERE IS MY SISTER AND NIECE? WHAT DID YOU DO TO THEM!?"
When Adrienne saw that Smith's positive emotions were coming back she got out another shadow spear and drove it right into Samuel's heart. His eyes changed back to red and his hair also changed back to black and he stopped trying to attack Adrienne. "Miss Adrienne, I'm sorry about my behavior," Samuel apologized while bowing.
"Hmm you better be sorry. Now I want you to go and stop the Rainbow Squads right now. The White Squad powers are becoming weak as she's not balancing helping others and herself. You better not fail me," Adrienne demanded angrily before leaving.
Samuel nodded and flew off to complete his orders and hoped that he wouldn't fail.
Meanwhile on earth, the class was now at the beach and Jane continued helping other students, but her friends all noticed that she wasn't happy and seemed very tired. Josh decided to intervene along with Erick and they both agreed to try to convince Jane to let the other students know she needed to rest and that they could ask a teacher for help.
"Hey babe we need to talk," Erick said.
"Pant... What is it babe?" Jane asked.
"Jane, listen, you need to rest and let these guys know that you need a break. You're working too hard and you're clearly not happy, we know you're just trying to be nice, but sometimes the nicest thing you can do is ask others for help and help yourself when you need it," Josh explained quickly.
"Yeah what Josh said, and yes I can't believe he said that as he normally spills out nonsens," Erick stated and Josh nodded in agreement.
"... I know but I just feel so mean when I say 'no' to someone," Jane said while looking down sadly.
"I know but you need to say that you need a break as you're clearly tired." Erick explained while holding Jane's shoulders before hugging her. Jane hugged him back and thought about what they said.
"Okay I'll join you guys, but let me get me some drinks for the volleyball players first alright," Jane said.
Erick sighed and agreed as he knew that there was no way to talk her out of it. Jane smiled and left to go to get the drinks and hopefully be able to relax with her friends afterwards.
However it was really hot that day and Jane felt her sweat dripping down her forehead. So she decided to take a seat on a nearby bench that was in the shade to cool down and rest up. As she was sitting there she felt something slither on her hand and when she looked she saw a white snake slithering up her arm.
"AH! WHAT THE HECK?!" Jane screamed, scared and surprised.
"Oh sssorry if I ssscared you," the snake hissed out politely.
"Huh? You, can talk? Wait, are you an animal guide?" Jane asked.
"Why yesss I am. My name is Kate and I'm the guide of the White SSSquad." Kate explained.
"Oh well that's good as I'm the White Squad. My name is Jane!" Jane said happily.
"Well then it'sss good to sssee you Jane," Kate said, delighted to have found her.
"Same here Kate and hey I've always liked snakes, you just startled me when you slithered up my arm like that," Jane explained.
"Sssorry again about that, but I needed to see if your ear ringsss were really the White SSSquadsss amuletsss." Kate explained.
Jane smiled and continued talking to Kate for a while longer, till Kate noticed that Jane's positive aura was rather weak.
"Miss Jane I've noticed that your aura isss rather weak. Why isss that?" Kate asked.
Jane then looked down sadly and said, "Well everyone's been asking me to do a lot of stuff, and I want to let them know that I want a break, but I'm afraid of being rude. I know that I need to balance out helping others and helping myself, but I'm just not able to say no."
Kate thought about what Jane said and knew that Jane needed to hear what she had to say.
"Jane, listen. I know it can be hard to turn sssomeone down, but when you need a break or help, you can let them know and tell your friendsss, asss they will always be there to help you," Kate explained.
Jane looked down for a bit, till she heard a crash and screams of terror. Jane jumped up from her seat and ran to the source of the screaming. When she got there she saw a giant shadow crab attacking the area and destroyed volleyball nets, chairs, and other items on the beach.
"Ugh, can we have a normal field trip for once?" Jane asked, annoyed before screaming, "RAINBOW POWER ACTION!" and transformed into her rainbow squad form.
"Ah well look who it is, the girl in white. How have you been Miss color of Purity?" Samuel asked in a mocking tone.
"I've been alright and I'm going to stop you myself!" Jane yelled at him before dogging the shadow crabs claw.
Jane started collecting her purity into her heart then into her earrings. Once they were glowing bright enough she screamed, "MIST OF PURITY!" However only a puff of mist came out and Jane was confused by this and before she could react the shadow grabbed her with its claw.
"AHH! Oww! Oww! Oww!" Jane screamed in pain as the shadow held her tight.
"JANE, DON'T WORRY I'LL HELP YOU!" Kate screamed and slithered up to the shadow and bit its leg trying to get it to let go.
"Kate, no! Don't get involved, I can handle this!" Jane yelled and tried to pry the claws off herself.
"Jane, no you need help. I know you think you can do things on your own and don't want your friends getting hurt, but you need to help yourself and have others help you!" Kate explained.
When Samuel heard Kate say that he laughed and said mockingly, "HA! Who needs help from others. I don't need anyone's help as I can do this on my own. I've never needed any sorta help in all my life."
Jane looked at him and said, "B-But you do need help. You need help from your niece to remember who you truly are! And I need my friends to help me with this battle and save your home! I need their help and I'm going to ask them for help whenever I need it!"
Jane's earrings then glowed brighter than ever and Kate smiled as Jane had now unlocked a new power. Suddenly in the blink of an eye Jane suddenly disappeared from the Shadow's hand.
"Huh?! What the! where did she go!" Samuel asked while looking around for her.
"I'm right here Bozo!" Jane said before she threw a beach blanket over Samuel's head blinding him.
Jane then zoomed over to the shadow and used a net to tie its legs up, as her new power was super speed. Once the shadow legs were completely tied up it fell down and was unable to get up due to its shell. Samuel managed to get the blanket off his face and saw Jane standing on top of his shadow with a smug look on her face.
"Oh don't look so smug now as I still have the advantage over you!" Samuel called out.
"Oh and what's that?" Jane asked smugly.
"I have my crystal-! Coconut?!" Samuel said confused as he pulled out a coconut instead of his crystal ball.
"Ha! I had some time to take your crystal ball and give you a refreshing drink, along with getting Iris," Jane said as Iris poked her head out from behind Jane with a little smile on her face. She then stepped out from behind Jane and Samuel saw that his Crystal ball was now pierced on Iris's rainbow sword. This caused the shadow to disappear with its positive emotions coming back and changing back into a man in a lifeguard suit.
"Hey Uncle Smith are you still there?" Iris asked in an innocent tone.
When Samuel heard his niece asking him that and saying his old name he was hit with a wave of positive emotions and his eyes started flashing from red to blue. However when Adrienne saw this from her crystal ball back in the shadow realm she became agitated by this.
"Crystal Ball bring Samuel back now! I need to replace his negativity till I can find out how to make the spell stronger. I'll also need to limit their interaction with Iris as she could be a trigger for their positivity," Adrienne said as she got up and grabbed another shadow spear.
Back on earth Iris was still trying to talk to her uncle and allow Samuel to return to being Smith. However she saw a black haze surround him and before either Iris or Jane could do anything Samuel had disappeared.
"NO UNCLE SMITH!" Iris screamed with tears running down her face before falling to her knees, sobbing hard as she had gotten so close to getting her uncle back.
Jane frowned and patted Iris on the back in a reassuring way before saying, "Don't worry Iris, we'll get your family, friends, and home back. I know we can do it, and we'll do it together as a team."
Iris looked up at Jane with some tears still flowing from her eyes and hugged her tightly. "Thank you Jane, you're the bestest friend anyone could ask for. I'm also glad to hear that from now on you're going to ask for help when you've got too much to do," Iris said grateful, whipping her nose and the tears from her face.
"Yeah and if I end up running for student body president I want you and the others to join me so that way I'll be able to have a good balance with work and relaxation time. Oh and I almost forgot! Hey Kate, come here!" Jane called over to Kate and she slithered over to her and up Jane's arm.
"Gasp... OMG KATE! YOUR HERE!" Iris screamed excitedly and happily.
"Yesss I am and I missed you as well Irisss," Kate said.
"Oh wait till the other's see you again, they're gonna be so happy!" Iris exclaimed before grabbing Jane's hand and taking her back to the group. When they got there Iris introduced everyone to Kate and the other Animal Guides. As they were talking Jane's earrings started glowing and a line of light came out of them and pointed to the ocean.
Jane and the others followed it and she dipped down into the water. Jane went about a few feet into the water before the light was pointing right underneath her. She then dunked her head under the water and began digging in the sand. Soon she pulled out the white shard of the Rainbow Crystal heart and she showed it to the others. When Iris saw it her eyes lit up with joy and happiness as she took the shard and hugged Jane tightly.
"WE GOT ANOTHER ONE!" Iris screamed while jumping up and down in the water.
"HA yeah now there's only three more shards left before it's complete!" Hannah exclaimed.
"Yeah and Iris please let go of me. You're kinda choking me," Jane explained while Iris was hanging off her neck.
"Oh sorry hehe. I'm just so excited we're almost there with saving my kingdom and restoring it to its former glory!" Iris exclaimed.
"Yeah and hey I say we celebrate by playing some Marco/Polo. Now who's gonna be it first?" Josh asked.
Everyone then called, "Not it!" Except for Iris who got confused by that, but thankfully Jane put Iris's finger on her nose as well as a way for her to be "Not it" either.
"OH COME ON! Ugh why can't I ever not be it first?" Josh asked angrily.
"Well bro, it's your own fault with not having fast enough reflexes," Lila explained.
Josh just groaned, closed his eyes and started counting to ten. Everyone started backing away and Jane explained to Iris how to play Marco/Polo. After explaining everyone had a fun time playing the game till it was time for them to get back on the bus and head back to school.
