Saturday, may 16th, 2019.

I groaned.

" Get off me, Nibbles. Nibbles! " I whined, but my little kitty has a mind of its own. It continued walking over my face, trying  to wake me.

" Urgh. " I breathed. " Fine. I'm up! " I shouted and lifted it from my face, sitting up.

" You're such a naughty cat. I would give you up for adoption if you weren't so cute. " I placed it on my bed. as I got up and it meowed as if it understood me.

" I was kidding." I smiled at it. Taking my phone from my night stand, I sent a quick message to Kyle.

Good morning, sleepy head. Happy fifth anniversary! Can't wait for tonight. Love you.

I dropped my phone and walked to my bathroom, then brushed my teeth.

" Come on nibbles, breakfast. "  putting my phone in my back pocket, I walked out, making sure to leave the door open for Nibbles.

" Finally. " Mom exhaled as soon as she saw me.

" Sorry, mom. Morning. "

" Morning sweetie. They called at the office. I have to leave in a few hours. "

" Mom, " I whined. " It's Saturday. "

" I know honey, but I have to. " She shrugged.

I shook my head. She's always overworking herself.

I walked into the kitchen and took the spatula from her hands.

" Alright. I'll take it from here. "

She smiled gratefully at me. " Thanks sweetie. " She gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, before going to her room.

I scrambled the eggs some more when my all to familiar ringing tone started playing.

I brought it out and picked at the after checking the caller ID.

" Hey you. " I said, smiling into the phone.

" Someone's in a good mood. " She started. " I'm I missing something? "

" Lia, don't tell me you forgot, again. "

" Of course not. I know what today is. "  she laughed, nervously. " It's a day for celebration. "

" My God, Lia. " I breathed as I started to pace back and forth. "  You know what, I won't let you ruin my good mood today. Just so you know, this girl is getting proposed to. "

She gasped. " Oh my God! Is today your fifth anniversary!? "

" Uh-huh! " I laughed. " I'm getting married, I'm getting married, I'm getting married. " I sang.

" See, I told you. Kyle loves you. He fell in love with you, not your beauty. "

" Yeah, sorry I didn't believe you. It's just I've gotten so ugly and I just thought Kyle might leave me, just like everyone else. "

" Sshh. You're not ugly, okay? "

I knew Amelia was just saying that to make me feel better. I was very aware of what I looked like. 

Freckles and spots covered cheeks. And I've gotten so thin, you could see my ribs. I'm just not the old me anymore.

This is the new me. And I'm 100% not proud of it.

" Ava, are you there? "

I blinked. " Uh, yeah. I am. "

" Don't worry Ava, I'll be there when you say your vows. And then you'll be Mrs Finn!? "  She screeched in my ear.

I laughed. " My God, Lia. Let's wait till then, okay? " 

" Alright, alright. " She giggled. " Till then, Mrs Finn. "

" Bye, Amelia. "

" Bye, Ava. " She answered, laughing.

With a small sigh, I dropped my phone on the counter. My nose twitched slightly.

I gasped my eyes widened. " The eggs! "

I ran to it and quickly turned off the cooker. " Shit! " I cursed, as I blew the smoke away, coughing. I quickly emptied it into a small bowl.

" Meow. " I glanced at nibbles.

I smiled. " Nibbles, are you hungry? "

" Meow! " it hissed as it started to run.

" Nibbles! " I grabbed the plate of burnt eggs and ran after it. " Nibbles!? It's very tasty, I promise!"

I took my phone out from my pocket as I heard it's ding.

Well good evening to you too. He hasn't said a single word to me all day. And he's starting with this?

Perhaps he was just busy...
Me~ yeah, in the cab right now. Be there in a few.

Thank you!? Did he really just reply to my love love with thank you!?

I swallowed. A sick feeling started to form in the depth of my stomach.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

The bathroom was my first stop as soon as I got to the restaurant. I watched myself in the mirror. I didn't look anything like my old self.

Freckles all around my nose and cheeks. Dark spots covered my forehead and around. There's no other way to put this: I was ugly.

I sighed. But I'm getting proposed to tonight. This all wouldn't matter anymore. I'm glad I have someone like Kyle who loves me nonetheless.

Exhaling, I moistened my lips and ran a hand through my hair. I should at least make myself look presentable.

Adjusting my not so old dress, I made my way to the eating parlour.

Kyle was seated at the center table on a phone call. Immediately he saw me, he hurriedly ended the call and put his phone away.

I smiled as I got there. " Hey, Kyle. "

"Hey, Ava. Please have a seat. " He gestured for me to sit.

That's odd. Kyle always pulls the chair out for me....

"Thanks. " I muttered as I sat. " You must be extremely busy. You didn't text back this morning. "

" Uh, yeah. I've been working a lot lately . " He told me and I nodded understandingly.

" Okay, " I muttered.

" Well, let's eat! "

He stopped a few steps from my house. I turned to him and smiled.

" Thank you for tonight, Kyle. " I whispered loud enough for him to hear me.

" No worries. " He slowly took my hand, and my heart skipped a beat. I bit my lips, fighting back a smile.

" Ava, " He whispered. He slowly slipped his promise ring out of my finger. " I can't do this anymore. "

My heart stopped. My brain went into a frenzy as I tried to wrap my head around what he said.

" What? " I breathed, as I went suddenly pale.

" This. Us. We're over. "

My breathing shagged. I panted heavily as my eyes watered. " Is this a prank? Today isn't April first right? Are you kidding me? Well, of course you are. You're kidding, right? Tell me you're joking! "

"I am not joking! "  He yelled.

" Yes you are! " I screamed back. " You must be. Now, stop. You know I never liked jokes. So, please stop kidding around and just put the engagement ring in my finger. Just propose already! "

" I. am. not. proposing. to. you. " He said calmly.  "Can't you see Ava? You've changed. In a bad, bad way. "

I see. He doesn't like the new me. Just like everyone else.

" You're breaking up with me because of my facial features? You bastard! " I screamed. " You told me you loved me! You said you always would! "

Tears were spilling out of my eyes as I hit his chest, continuously.

He just took it without resistance. He deserved it after all.

" You promised me! You promised. You promised. "

I fell to my seat as I felt weak all of a sudden. Sobbing, I turned my head to him.

" We've been together for five years Kyle. Why now? "

And I actually thought he wanted to propose.

" Most of those five years were the most excruciating_ "

" Shut up. " I whispered.

" Horrible years of my life. "

" Shut up. " I said louder now as I shook my head.

" I thought I could make it work."

" Shut up! "

"But I failed. I just stopped loving you. "

" Shut up. " I couldn't find it in me to scream anymore. My head was hurting real bad. The car was spinning and my heart was pounding loudly against my chest as if it would pop out.

" I'm sorry. We can still be friends? "

Is he insane?

I glared heavily at him. Opening his car, I stumbled out.

" Rot in hell. " I said to him, as I slammed the door.

Careful not to fall, I managed to make it in. I fumbled with that key to my room trying to unlock it. Finally pushing it open, I slumped on my bed.

" Meow. "

I looked up and quickly picked up Nibbles.

" Oh, Nibbles. You forgive me for feeding you burnt eggs? "
It licked my face. Making me laugh bitterly.

" At least you don't care what I look like. " I sighed. I whimpered softly when the tears started to spill.

Snuggling with Nibbles, and tears running down my face, I managed to fall deep into slumber.
