Chapter 23
"Huh, why did he quit?" I asked aloud.
I was sitting between Emerald and Ruby as we watched Mercury just give up on his match against Pyrrha.
"You.... don't even want to try?" Pyrrha asked him.
Mercury shrugged and said "What's the point? You're a world renowned fighter. We're obviously leagues apart."
"But he actually was holding up a good fight...." I said to myself confused. "....he did way better than what Cardin did." I smirked.
"In that case.... Pyrrha Nikos is the victor of the match.... again." Glynda said.
As Glynda said that the giant screen that displayed Pyrrha and Mercury's aura, his shot down from green to red. But for some reason Mercury snickered at the sight which I could tell made Pyrrha annoyed.
"Next time you might want to think a little harder before choosing an opponent." Glynda told Mercury.
"I'll be sure to do that." Mercury said as the bell rang.
"That is all for today. And remember, the dance is this weekend. But you all have your first mission on Monday. I will not accept any excuses." Glynda announced as everyone started heading out of class
Right before I could head out the door "Mr (L/N) can you please stay here?" Glynda asked.
I slowly turned around and walked down the steps as everyone left class.
"Yes Ms Good?" I asked which she rolled her eyes at.
"Mr (L/N) I asked you to stay because you've seemed very.... anxious in class today." She said.
"Anxious?" I said.
"For every time I choosed a pairing to fight you would sink down in your seat as if you were trying to hide yourself. Why is that?" She asked.
"Oh, well, do you remember when I said that my semblance goes onto further levels?" She nodded. "Well when my semblance does that I kinda.... explode." I said.
"Explode?" She asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Yeah. It's just that my body has to get used to the new power. And since my semblance changed again I'm afraid that the explosion might be way bigger." I explained.
"I see...." Glynda said. "Well there's no one here now."
"Yeah...."
"So tell you what. I'll left you release your power while I'll be safely watching from the sidelines." Glynda said.
"Really? Thanks Ms Good!" I smiled.
She shook her head and walked off to the furthest rows of the arena and sat down. Seeing that she might be at safe distance I closed my eyes and focused.
Ren View
Jaune, Nora, and I are walking back to our dorm as Pyrrha tried figuring out what happened with her fight.
"Pyrrha you heard the guy. He was too worried he'll lose to badly. I mean come on, he is fighting you." Jaune said trying to cheer up Pyrrha.
"No, there was definitely something more than that. The way he looked when he forfeited said something else." Pyrrha said.
"Well whatever it is, it's over now." I said.
As we continued to walk in the corner of my eye I saw Zachary, Retro, and a guy I haven't seen before looking our way.
The new guy has neck length black & white hair, light orange eyes, two small bear ears (one black the other white), and he has one fang peaking from his mouth. He wore a black & white hoodie that's only zipped up halfway with a white T-shirt underneath, black shorts that has a chain going down from a pocket, and black & white checkered sneakers.
I saw a small smirk forming on Zachary's face when he saw me.
Him....
I looked at my team and told them to go on without me, which I get a nod in response. I turned back and walked up the mysterious students.
"Well hello again. Lie Ren." Zachary said in his usual cold voice.
"Hello, Zachary." I said as I cautiously looked at him. "Still spying us I see." I said as I glanced at Retro and the bear faunus.
"Hmph. You still trying to figure us out? We're doing nothing, we're just trying to get on about the day." Retro said as his red eyes glared at me.
"And trust me that's boring enough along with-" The bear faunus said.
"Shut it Naz." Retro said.
"What did I do?" Naz, the bear faunus, said. Retro just turned his head and glared at Naz. "Okay, shutting it."
"Ren, I am not a threat. Honestly I came her for family." Zachary said.
"Family?" I asked.
"Yes. For my sister to be exact. We have.... some catching up to do." He said.
Sister?
*Kaboom!*
What was that?!
I looked towards the source of the noise and saw the arena, with a large blue light going high uo into the sky.
(Y/N) View
I grunted as my blue colored semblance basically reached everywhere. Luckily Glynda was right about going to the farthest seat in here. But even then my blue flame is nearly touching her.
"Amazing." I heard Glynda said.
And for a few minutes my semblance just continued to go up into the sky until it finally shrunk down to the usual size it always been.
"*huff* *huff* I'm done!" I sighed in relief.
"Impressive Mr (L/N)." Glynda said as she walked down the steps towards me. "I'm glad you decided to do this now. That would be quite the surprise if you went off at the dance wouldn't it?"
"Yeah... the dance... " I trailed off.
"Hmmm?"
"Oh, nothing. I gotta go through." I turned towards the door as my semblance faded. "See you later Ms Good!" I said.
"I told you stop-*sigh*"

When I arrived at my dorm I saw Ruby, Yang, and Weiss standing outside the door with worried faces.
"What's wrong girls?" I asked.
"Oh, hey (Y/N)." Yang said.
"We're about to talk to Blake..... and you've seen how she's been." Weiss said.
"Yeah. She's been so tired that she almost went outside without her bow on." I said.
"*sigh* Ready?" Ruby asked.
We nodded our heads yes.
We walked through the door to see Blake sitting on her bed, struggling to read a book. By just glancing at her you can see how many bags under her eyes.
"Blake?" Ruby said.
But Blake didn't respond back.
"Blake?" Ruby said a little louder.
But still no response.
"Blake, I threw your "special" book into a fire while you were sleeping." Yang said.
Blake's eyes instantly widened and she looked at Yang with anger and annoyance.
"You what!?" Blake asked.
"Your book is fine. We just wanted your attention." Yang said.
"Blake, we want you to go to the dance." Ruby said.
"That's ridiculous." Blake said as she crossed her arms.
"Blake, we're worried about you. This investigation is starting to mess with your head." Yang said.
"You can't sleep, you hardly eat, and to be honest, your grades have been suffering." Weiss said.
"You think I care about grades? People's lives are at stake!" Blake shouted as she pointed outside.
"We know Blake. We're all trying our best to stop that Torchwick guy." I said as Yang sat down right next to Blake to comfort her.
"Thanks to you, Sun, Harley, and Joey, we know that they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale." Ruby said.
"And, the Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for Dust robberies over the last few months." Weiss said.
"Don't forget about their missing military tech too." Yang said.
"But there's still unanswered questions!" Blake said.
"Blake, you won't be able to find anything if you can't even keep your eyes open!" Ruby told her.
"All we're asking is that you take it easy for one day." Yang said.
"It'll be fun! Yang and I will make sure of it." Weiss said.
"Yeah! We're planning the whole event!" Yang said excitedly.
"When did that happen?" I asked.
"Team CFVY's away mission lasted quite longer than expected." Weiss said.
Yeah, I miss those two.
"So, Weiss and I decided to pickup where they left off. And now we can have the perfect night." Yang smiled.
"And once it's all over, we'll return for our search, rested and ready." Weiss said.
"So what do ya think?" Ruby asked Blake.
"I think this is a colossal waste of time." Blake said. She got up from her bed and walked up to the door. "I'll be in the library." And with that she left.
"Great." Yang said sarcastically.
"She can't keep going on like this." Weiss said.
"Yeah." I said with a sigh.

(Y/N) sat down on Blake's bed and went off into his own thoughts. Weiss was going to sit with him but there was a knock at the door. Weiss opened it to find Jaune on his knees with a guitar.
"Weiss!" Jaune sang.
She immediately slammed the door in his face.
"Oh, come on, open the door! I promise not to sing." Jaune said through the door. Weiss opened the door. "I lied! Weiss Schu-nee, will you accompany me, to the dance on.... Sunday!" Jaune while playing his guitar.
"Are you done?" -_-|| Weiss asked.
"Yes?"
She slammed the door back in his face. When Weiss turned around Ruby and Yang gave her a look.
"O_O||"
"What?" She asked.
"And that's why they called you Ice Queen." Yang said.
"All my life, boys have only cared about the perks of my last name. Besides, I already have a date in mind." Weiss said with a smirk.
Ruby and Yang instantly knew who she was talking about and the three girls looked at each other in silence..... before turning towards (Y/N).
"(Y/N) will you go with me to....the dance?" The girls said but only to find Kuma happily panting where (Y/N) once was.... "Huh?"
(Y/N) View
I took a long sigh as I sat crisscrossed on the roof. I needed some fresh air to think.
Why is whole dance thing so popular? Basically everyone at this point is talking about it but.... I don't what to do!
I let out a agitated groan as I laid on my back, looking up to the clear blue sky. As I did I saw a few birds flying by. Wait....
I know who I can talk to!
I got up with a smile on my face as I started climbing down the side of the building.

I was running through the forest hoping that I was going the right direction. After a few minutes of wandering around I was rewarded with the sight of Raven's house. I saw her standing in front of the her place with her sword drawn. She was moving her sword around slowly, as if she was fighting in slow motion. It reminded me of water.
When I got closer to her I decided to speak.
"Raven?"
When I did she quickly turned around and sliced her sword near my throat. But out of pure instinct I raised my hand (that had (W/N) on) and blocked it.
"Hello (Y/N)." Raven said as she retracted her sword.
"Hey Raven." I smiled.
"I see your reflexes are getting better." She said.
"Yeah. I've been improving on some things in my spare time." I said. "Hey Raven, can I ask you about something?"
"Sure." She said as she crossed her arms.
"Do you know anything about.... Dances?" I asked.
"Dances?" She questioned and I can imagine that an eyebrow is raised under her mask.
"Yeah, Beacon is having one but I don't really know what to do. I've read about dances and watched some on TV, which something I started doing recently. I get its a party but I'm not sure if I'm going to be good at the whole "formal" thing.... and I have do idea how to dance the way they do on Tv." I said.
Raven just stood there for a second, not saying anything.
"So I was wondering can you teach me how dance with another person?" I asked nervously.
She didn't say anything for about a solid minute.
"You want me, to teach you, how to dance?" She said.
"Yes?" I said.
Raven pulled out her sword and lightly put the tip into grassy ground. Then she started to walk off while she dragged her sword.
"Um, what are you doing?" I asked.
"You said that you wanted me to teach you how to dance, but I'll only do it under one condition." She said as she continued to drag her sword, but then realized she was making a large circle in the ground.
"Yeah?"
"You need to get me out of this circle." She said as she completed the shape.
I looked around to see the large circle she created. The obvious dirt line showing the boundary for me to push her out of.
"Are you sure Raven? I don't know if I ca-"
I was cut off by Raven trying to slash me across my chest. I was able to narrowly dodge her attack then I jumped back a bit.
"Okay, guess I have no choice now." I said as I pulled out Burning Rose.

As (Y/N) got into a fighting stance with his scythe Raven eyed him carefully with her sword ready.
"Well if I am going against you I might as well try my best." (Y/N) said with a nervous smirk.
(Y/N) activated his semblance making a blue flame like light surround him, his hair became spiked and blue, along with his eyes, and his muscle mass increased.
Raven raised an eyebrow under her mask, interested in this new power her pupil possesses.
(Y/N) narrowed his eyes and rushed forward with an incredible burst of speed. Raven went wide eyed under her mask as she barely blocked Burning Rose as (Y/N) pushed his weapon against her's.
They pushed against each other before they dashed back a little then rushed at each other to exchange blows. With every contact they made a large gust of wind would be created, making the nearby trees shake.
(Y/N) slashed Burning Rose downwards over Raven's head but Raven blocked it with her sword. Then she kicked (Y/N) dead center in his chest which made him stumble and roll backwards. But (Y/N) was able to catch himself as he dragged his hand across the ground to slow himself down. He glanced over his shoulder to see he almost fell out the ring then quickly turned back around as he launched himself forward back at Raven.
He slashed his scythe as fast as he could at Raven forcing her to dodge a move back near the edge of the ring. (Y/N) tried to kick her like she did to him a few moments ago but Raven blocked the kick by stabbing her sword into the ground making a makeshift shield, then used used the sword to flip behind you, then kicking you right in the back.
You was about to fall forward, out of the ring, but thanks to quick thinking you stamped Burning Rose ahead of you, which made you stop yourself from falling as your upper body leaned against the scythe. Then you pushed yourself back to the ring, turned towards Raven, and readied yourself for round two.
The two of you immediately rushed at each other, exchanging blows again. Raven slashed her sword down, but you dodged it by sidestepping out of the way then kneeing Raven in the stomach. Which is a good thing but in your mind you were beyond terrified.
Which should be the right emotion as Raven punched you square across the face. Then another. And another. But you caught the fourth punch, feeling some anger burning inside of you making your blue flame flare. In one swift movement you roundhouse kicked Raven in her stomach which made her stumble back, then you punched her few times in the stomach, before kicking her in the stomach in a blue burst of speed.
Raven stumbled back near the edge again and you took this as your chance to knock her out. You came in with a kick but what happened next scared you.
O_O!
She caught your leg and was squeezing tightly in her grasp. You're pretty sure you heard some sort of low growl coming from under Raven's mask and with the red eyes made her scarier than any Grimm. She pulled your leg forward, pulling you forward, then punched you in the stomach nearly knocking the wind out of your system. Then she punched you across the face, but it was a much stronger punch from earlier.
You flew back but you were able to caught yourself but doing a one armed handstand then backflipping onto your feet.
You eyed Raven carefully as she started walking towards you.
(Y/N) View
Why is it so hard to get her out this damn circle?! At this rate she's going to break me like that Kit Kat Bar Yang gave me yesterday..... How can I get her out? Maybe...
I put away Burning Rose and activated (W/N). I got into a fighting stance and waited for Raven to attack again. Which wasn't long before she rushed at me with her sword. I was able to dodge her sword better than when she dodged Burning Rose which helps my plan even more. Raven tried to slash me across my chest but I sidestepped out of the way which made her stumble past me. Then I used this chance to get back her and tackled her to the ground.
And when we fell, we hit the grass outside the ring. And thanks for me being behind her I fell on her back.
"Whew! I won!" I said happily as I got off of Raven and sat my legs.
"It seems so." Raven said as she rolled over onto her back. "I've improved a lot since the last time we sparred."
"Yeah. Last time I only landed one punch on you." I said as I laid down in the grass, right next to Raven. "So I guess you'll be teaching me how to dance."
"*sigh* Fine. We'll start tomorrow." She said.
"Okay." I said as I started to get up but before I could I felt Raven grab my hand.
"Stay for a bit. We just finished sparring and it's not wise to wander in a forest filled with Grimm tired." Raven said.
So I laid back down right next to Raven with a smile. And we looked up at the blue sky, enjoying each other company.

I stood there with my arms crossed as I watched Pyrrha spar with Jaune. We've been out on the roof for awhile now and sun has already setted.
Jaune's been getting a lot better than when we first started training him last semester. This is probably how Raven feels when she thinks about me.
Jaune was actually getting the upper hand against Pyrrha but then she leg sweep, knocking him down on his back.
"Well done! Your swordplay's improved immensely." Pyrrha said.
"Yeah. Good job Jaune." I said as I walked over to him and helped him up.
"I couldn't have done it without you guys." Jaune said.
"So, are you ready to move on to Aura?" Pyrrha asked.
"I'm actually thinking that maybe we skip Aura for tonight? Might go on a jog or something." Jaune said.
"Come on, I know you get frustrated. But you must keep trying. I'm sure you'll discover your semblance any day now." Pyrrha said
"Yeah Jaune. It just a lot of practice but it's all worth it though. Heck your semblance might be stronger than mine." I said.
"That's not it. It's just.... It's dumb." Jaune said.
"What is it?" Pyrrha placed a hand on Jaune's shoulder. "Jaune, you know you can tell me." She said.
"It's..... Weiss." He said.
"Oh. What about her?" Pyrrha asked, with her happy expression dropped a little.
"I asked her to the dance and she shot me down. Big surprise, right?" Jaune said with a halfhearted laugh.
"Well, I believe the saying goes. There's.... plenty of fish in the sea." Pyrrha said.
What do fish have to do with this? o_o?
"That's easy for you to say. You've probably got guys clamoring over each other just to ask you out." Jaune said.
"You'd be surprised." Pyrrha chuckled halfheartedly.
"Oh please. If you don't get a date to the dance, I'll wear a dress. Heh." Jaune said as he walked off.
Then I saw Pyrrha smiled completely fade and she looked really upset. But why?
.............Oh!
I walked over to Pyrrha and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Pyrrha, you're in love with Jaune. Aren't you?" I asked which made her eyes widen.
"W-What ever do you mean?" Pyrrha asked.
"Pyrrha, I can tell when someone is love." I said.
"You can?" Pyrrha asked skeptically.
"Yes. I can see it when you're around him. Always trying to make him happy. Doing whatever you can to keep him safe.... Pyrrha even though I never been in love before I can see you clearly love Jaune. All I'm saying is that you should just tell him. That's how I would like a girl to tell me." I said.
"Thanks (Y/N)." Pyrrha said as she hugged me. "And you have no idea who would kill for that information."
"Your welcome Pyrrha." I smiled as I hugged her back. "And what?" o_o?

"How many people go to this school? We've been going through these files all night." Mercury groaned as he leaned back his chair against the wall.
"Well maybe this will go a little faster if someone was helping!" Emerald shouted at Mercury as she sat crisscrossed on the floor.
"Naw." He said as he looked up at the ceiling.
"Now now, I can tell you two are getting a bit restless but this is worth it for the plan to succeed." I said as I continued to sew my black dress.
"Well luckily we only have two more files." Emerald said.
"Well?" I said.
"The first file belongs to (Y/N) (L/N)." Emerald said as she placed the file on my desk. It had very little in the folder making this the least information we have about someone. "For some reason there's barely any information about him, anywhere. I could only find his birth certificate and his application to Beacon."
"Hmm." I hummed as I looked at his picture. "(Y/N). Doesn't he match the description of the one who destroyed one of the mech suits Roman told us about?" I asked.
"Yes. I even seen him in that blue form he was talking about as well, earlier in the arena." Emerald said.
"We might need to "persuade" him to make sure he doesn't interfere with the plan..... The last file." I said.
"And the last file might interest you." Emerald said with a smirk. "Do you remember Pyrrha Nikos' file?" I nodded. "Well, unknown to Beacon, and most of the world, she has a twin brother."
"Interesting." I smiled.
"Yes, his name is Zachary Nikos. An excellent fighter according to Haven and has competed in every competition Pyrrha has but always ended in second.... after his sister." Emerald said.
"Oh, a sibling rivalry." I said.
"It goes way deeper than that. I've done a little more digging into his name and found out he's been disowned by his own parents for only being second best. It wouldn't surprise me if Pyrrha doesn't even knows her brother is here." She said.
"I think we'll have a talk with him soon enough. We have a fun weekend ahead of us." I smiled.
