Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Trippin'
It has been a couple of days sense Ethan and I "hung out".
He says it wasnt a date but, it felt like a date.
I mean, does he like me or what? Do I like him or what?
I haven't seen him at school, he hasn't called or texted, I don't know what to think!
I'm just going to play it cool and not text him at all. I'll just wait until he comes to me.
It's now Wednesday. Yes, FREAKING WEDNESDAY!
And the last time we spoke was on Saturday. I'm convinced he hates me.
I was going to get up early to make an extra effort with my appearance, but I realized that he probably won't even be at school and if he can't even bother to text me, then why should I comb my hair for him?
I throw my hair in a messy bun and wear a black cropped top and burnt orange high waisted distressed jeans.
I throw on some black high topped air forced ones with it and rub on chapstick before going downstairs.
"Hey." I say to my family as I enter the kitchen. They all respond with grunts. I guess they aren't having a good morning. I shrug and grab a grapefruit.
"So, how was your date?" Seth asks and I drop my knife.
"DATE!?" Aunt Rosa exclaims. My mom pops her eyes out and Sarah looks betrayed.
"What? I never went on a date." I say calmly, because technically I'm not lying.
"Oh? What do you call a guy and a girl going out to eat?" He asks.
"I know this is hard for you to understand, considering you have no female friends other than the girl who loves your hair and wants your children, but boys and girls can simply be friends dude." I say in a "duh" tone.
"Wait, who did you go on a date with?" My mom asks.
"No one! I hung out with a friend who happens to be a boy." I say. Aunt Rosa rolls her eyes and mom just folds her arms.
"It better not be Ethan, because I would feel extremely betrayed." Sarah says.
I sigh.
"It was, but you don't like pasta anyway so you wouldn't have wanted to come." I say. She squinted her eyes at me.
"Where did you get the pasta?" She asks.
"Olive Garden."
"Dude! That was so a date! Oh my God! I can't believe you went on a date with Ethan!" She squeals. I groan and lean back in my seat. Seth gives me a smug look while mom and and Aunt Rosa pester me with their eyes.
I get up and roll my eyes at my family. They can walk to school for all I care.
...oh damn! I have to walk to school.
"I'm leaving." I state and walk off. None of them seemed to care as they continued to chatter about my "date".
I walk down the street in silence.
I look at my phone and sigh. I'm extra early. So, I slow my pace. Gabby is going to be mad that I ditched her, but I had to get away from my family.
As I walked, a car full of boys from my school, I could tell by the jock jackets, slowed down. I rolled my eyes. One rolled down his window which was useless because it's a convertible, I can hear them just fine.
When I properly observed them, I spotted a fimiliar flirty grin. It's George!
"Hey Sam! Need a ride?" George asked. I squint my eyes.
"The car looks full to me." I say. He smirks.
"You can sit on my lap." He says slickly.
"Pretty sure that's extremely dangerous and illegal, so I'll pass." I say knowingly.
"You shouldn't be walking by yourself, chica." Another boy says.
"This is like the most safest neighborhood in LA, I'm fine." I say.
"Still, you're an easy target for that one sicko that might be lurking about, stay safe." Another guy whom I do not know says.
"Thanks." I simply say and walk away. I don't hear the car pull off, but I do hear a plop. I sounds like someone jumped or something. I look behind me to see that George had hopped out of the car.
"I'll walk with you." He says. I give him a smile.
It's sweet that they worry, but it really isn't that serious.
"Sure." I say. George puts his arm around my shoulder and I roll my eyes.
"You know, for you to be such a douche bag all the time your still really sweet too." I say. He furrows his eyebrows and chuckles.
"What does that even mean?" He asks.
"Okay, so for example. Everyday at lunch you say some perverted comment about me or one of the girls boobs, but you also pull out the chairs for us and throw our trays away." I say. He smiles.
"Well what can I say, society teaches me one thing and my mom teaches me the other." He says and winks. I roll my eyes again.
"But you want to know one thing I have noticed?" I ask. He nods his head.
"Even though Gabbies boobs are basically nonexistent, you seem to comment on hers way more than everyone else's." I say raising my eyebrows at him. He stops walking and looks at me.
"So?" He says nervously.
"So? You like Gabbie." I say in a duh tone.
"No I don't." He denies. I squint my eyes at him.
"Yes, you do and I'm sorry to break it to you but she's off limits."I say. He frowns.
"Okay, not that I like her or anything, but why is she off limits?" He asks. I raise my eyebrows at him and start to walk. He does to and he just keeps looking at me.
"Well?" He asks. I just keep walking.
"Okay! Fine, maybe I like her a little, WHY IS SHE OFF LIMITS ?!?" He begs anxiously.
"Because dude, you're a player." I say.
"Your boyfriend's a criminal, yet I can't date Gabbies because I flirt a little?" He asks with a smirk on his face and my face heats up.
I fasten my pace and ignore him for the rest of the walk to school.
Ethan is not my boyfriend and from what I know, he is NOT a criminal.
#################
I was just leaving out of 3rd period, putting my books away do that I could go to lunch, when someone closed my locker and placed their hands on both sides of me, trapping me in between them and the lockers. I frowned and carefully turned around to see a smirking Ethan.
My heart skipped a beat.
"Hi." I barely said above a whisper.
"Hey." He says just loud enough for me to hear.
He was close. Like, really close to me and I was trying really hard not to move or look around because I know people are probably staring.
"I'm sorry." He says and I snap out of my daze.
"For what?" I ask confused.
"For not calling, or texting, or coming to school. You probably think I hate you." He says.
A million things went spinning in my head. HOW SHOULD I RESPOND?!?
"I wasn't trippin" I say in a somewhat chillax, looked like I was about to cry, cringey, awkward way.
He raises his eyebrows and starts to laugh. I groan. Why am I so freaking awkward!?!
"You weren't 'trippin' huh?" He asks. I nod.
"Sure wasn't." I say and roll my eyes at myself. I need a stop button.
"Okay then, I'll see you later? After school?" He asks. I was about to say yes until I realized, I try out for cheer today.
"I can't." I say with a sigh. He looks disappointed.
"It's fine, I understand. Well, I'll text you or something?" He asks. I smile and nod. He smiles back and walks off. I just lean back on my locker finally able to breathe.
It's like he has some type of spell on me. He could ask me to go steal a car and I'd probably consider it. It's those freaking EYES. They suck you into a completely different planet.
I weakly walk to the lunch room and plop down in my seat, not bothering to eat because my stomach is already filled with butterflies.
"Someone looks out of it today." George says. I roll my eyes and stick my tongue out playfully at him. We all chuckle.
"Yeah, I heard you and Ethan were showing a little PDA in the hall." Sapphire said. I sigh.
Michelle raises her eyebrows and Gabby looks at me with wide eyes. George gives me a snug look and I just about crack under pressure.
"We were not!" Is all I could say.
"I saw, yeah, you were." Fred says. I squint my eyes at him.
"We didn't even touch each other. We aren't a thing okay?" I try to convince.
"Then why were you so excited for this date you had on Saturday?" Emily questions.
I sigh, I never told them what happened on this "date".
"It... It wasn't a date." I say. They all squint at me.
"What do you mean?" Faith asks.
"He said it wasn't a date, that he liked me, but we aren't gonna put a label on things because labels mess everything up." I say.
"BULLSHIT!" Cameron yells, gaining some attention from others.
I sink in my seat and cover my eyes.
"Can we change the subject?" I ask.
"I think I like this subject." George says with a smirk.
"George.." I say with a warning voice.
"So he's your criminal NOT boyfriend?" He asks with a smirk and I roll my eyes.
"I have a much more interesting subject we can talk about Georgey boy." I say maliciously. He frowns at me.
"You wouldn't." He tests.
"I definitely would." I say while nodding my head. He leans forward and so do I as we stare each other down.
"Fine. Change of subject."He says. I smile.
I look at the rest of the table and they just stare at us.
" Y'all are weird. " Michelle says and sips her orange soda.
