|Characters|

Hey guys and welcome back to the New Author Awards - beginner's guide!

Now, we all know that as the story progresses, we come to know a lot about the characters of the story. The place where they live, their family, their friends, and a lot about their nature and their day to day life. But, some writers feel that it is necessary to give a small description about the characters right in the beginning of the story. They mostly name the part "Meet the Characters", but whatever, let's see what most of the characters description look like.

1) Mr ABC - Son of Mr XYZ, owner of ABYZ industries, arrogant, heartless, has blue eyes, height 6ft 5inches, etc etc.

*Insert a celebrity's picture here*

Now, everyone appreciates the fact that you know many descriptive words, but don't just simply write words. Like, hot, sexy, arrogant, tall, heartless, blah blah... It just looks like you're trying to tell people that you know so many words. Plus, physical detailing like height, eye color, eye shape, nose, lips, etc can be described inside the actual book in some way or the other. And even if you don't tell the people that he has green eyes,it wouldn't change anything. They don't even Care, because ultimately, they're going to imagine whoever they like in place of your actual characters.

Now, time to look at the Points To be taken Care of while describing your character.

Number 1 :- Dedicating a complete chapter on describing the characters will bring more trouble than good for you.

Yes! Now, basically, every new writer decides to write a little about the characters right in the start of the story, so people get familiar with the characters, BUT, after reaching maybe the tenth chapter, the writer themselves forgets what his character description was like. Maybe you said that your character had hazel brown eyes in the description and in the chapter, another character gets attracted towards their "blue eyes". And believe me, there are readers who are waiting for such mistakes, so that they can point it out and make you feel like an idiot!

So the best way to escape this trouble is to not give physical characteristics of the characters, or, not give a description at all,  because  anyways your readers will know about the characters when the read the story, so what's the point guys?

Also, don't add a celebrity's picture with your description. Your characters height is 6ft 5inches and your character's part is played by Varun Dhawan. See the difference? Yes, people notice that.

Also,i think that the cast option given by Wattpad is only for the fan fictions, not for all the books. I mean, you're writing a story, not a movie. And which famous writer has given casts to the story unless somebody actually made a movie out of it? Nobody! And,a dedicated writer's actual goal is reaching that level of success where your stories are turning into movies. Seriously, look at 'Life Of Pi' guys. Just look at it.

Number 2 :- Never Use Just 'descriptive' words with commas in the description.

If at all you still feel like writing a description, never write things like "tall, slim, hot, arrogant". Seriously, it doesn't make sense. Write full sentences.

Now by full sentences, I don't mean write sentences like
- He is tall
-He is arrogant
-He Is smart
And things like that.

Talk about his profession, the kind of work he has done in the past, the kind of rules he follow, his motto in life. And please write full sentences.

Number 3:- Let your character's behavior be consistent.

Now, many times, a man who appears to be a happy-go-lucky person in the starting, suddenly becomes a loner, and who seemed like an extremely quite girl, suddenly starts talking to a random guy about Pokemons. Like seriously? Are these characters having a spilt personality disorder?

If at all, you've a story where the character is a mysterious person who's behavior changes from time to time, or who has some kind of a mental problem, or anything like that and then his behavior shows an abnormal pattern, it is quite understood and acceptable. But A perfectly normal person starts behaving oppositely to his actual nature, that's a little weird. What the heck? Not little, IT IS EXTREMELY WEIRD!

Number4 :- Name Your characters properly.

Now, you can't find a Cassandra, an Autumn, A Taylor, A Tyler all together in India.

Yes, people do have such names, but you can't give all of the five best friends international names. Because in real life you don't find so many people with English names in a particular area.

Maybe common names like John, William, Daisy, Rosy, Jasmine, Lilly, etc can be used, because we find these names common amongst Indians.

In the same way, you won't find a Raju, A Muskaan, A Khushi, A Ragini, etc all together in Japan unless they're family members.

Number 5 :- Try To keep things natural.

Now, it is said that a person is a good actor if he or she gets completely into the character and starts living their (character's) life while performing. You've to do the same.

You've created the character. You know him the best. Now, suppose you're writing an emotional scene. Think about your character. Get into his or her shoes. Think about how would you react if you were in their place. If while writing an extremely emotional scene, you start crying, congratulations, you're on the right track.

If one of your character is angry about something, think about the reason why they are angry and will something like that make you angry too? If your answer is yes, then you're on the right track. If your answer is no, then I'm sorry, you need to change your characters reaction.

That's it for today. Hope you find this helpful in some way or the other. Please share this book with all those new struggling writers:)
