Andy - The Pitch

Come, listeners, as we go backwards in time to when Andy Farrant was an average citizen just like you. Enjoying a few drinks at his local pub, as it had become his ever increasing habit. A man walked up to him, spotting him from across the room.

"Hey there, buddy, you're looking down. Say, you're Andy Farrant, aren't you?" The man asked.

"Uh, yeah. Something wrong, or can I finish my drink?" Andy tried to ignore the man, but it proved impossible.

"Ah, jeez fellow, I heard about what happened to your wife. Those damn rebels and their bombs, got no respect for law and order."

Unable to ignore him, Andy turned to the man and did his best to talk to him without being rude. "Who are you?"

"Who, me? Well look here, I'll level with ya. It's a damn shame to see a guy with your potential drink himself away like this." The man wrapped his arm around Andy, almost whispering into his ear.

"Wait, me?"

"Yeah, you. We think you got a lot of potential." The man said.

That's when it hit him. "Wait, are you from the government?"

"Nothing gets past you. That's right, I'm from the government and I'm here to help. I have a proposition for you."

"Alright. I'm listening." Andy put his glass down.

"I know things have got you down right now. You have no where to go, and those rebels are picking off the things you love one by one. Well my friend, I've got news for you. I offer an opportunity that is tailor-made for you."

"And what would that be?"

"The War Department has a plan on how to end this rebellion, but we need men like you. We'd make you into more than a man; a super soldier. You'd be the next stage of evolution." The man noticed that Andy wasn't really paying attention.

"But that's not what you care about. You care about your city. Stopping those rebels. I get that. You got a kid, right? Little girl?"

Suddenly, Andy was interested again. He raised the shot glass to his lips, but the man stopped his hand and put the glass back down. "You've got to protect her, and all the other children in this city. And you're not doing any good for them sitting in here drinking. So why drown your sorrows in this when you can quench your thirst on rebel blood?"

Andy put his glass back down and was now face-to face with the man. "You want to make me a solider? So I can protect this city?"

"Now you got it. Put that drink down and let us make you a new man. Protect your city, save the day... avenge your wife. Kill some rebels and be a hero. What do you say, friend?"

After a few seconds of thought, Andy shook the man's hand. "I think we have a deal, friend?"
