Chapter one
It was the reception of the wedding, Alana and Jeffery were dancing their hearts away. Their children sat on opposing sides of the room, most of Alana's boys sitting and grumbling together, though Jason kept quite. The eldest was happy for his mother and was glad that she found someone again after the divorce. He was some what disappointed at the small ounce of peace and quiet, that rarely ever appeared in his home, was sure to be taken away. He hardly got any anyways, with his brothers constantly playing ball in the house and causing overall chaos. Little did he know, that where the LaSane's focused on sports, the Jaklesons were much more involved with the arts. Music, acting, writing, cooking, and drawing were their centers. They generally kept quiet, but that doesn't last long in a family of their numbers, music blasts, and curses got screamed, and the tranquility of the house is broken. Neither family is very sure as to how their family and schedules will change, and no one is ready. Both families are nervous that their dynamics will be ruined. Only the eldest of the siblings are wise enough to know that change will always come, and change is not always a bad thing.
Jax looks toward his siblings and snorts, "What are we supposed to do?" He gestures to the Jacklesons.
"We adjust to change. We have done it before and we can do it again." Jason replies.
"We can't do that Jason, they're going to just come stomping in and ruin us! And when dad left it threw our entire house to chaos! We didn't adjust for years."
"Did you ever stop to think that they feel the same way as us? And just so you know, that adjustment period was only that long because you refused to accept it." Jason snaps causing Jax to shut up, anger eminent in his movements.
Meanwhile, over on the other side of the room the youngest children of Jeffery Jackleson were standing up smiling purely. Michelle was smirking slightly and Prudence, along with Jayna, looked absolutely horrified.
"No please--guys you don't--stop!" The three stuttered as their youngest started toward the dance floor. Michelle giggled and stood back with Prudence and Jayna, both of which look mortified. They watched as their brothers danced like hooligans on the dance floor, laughing and joking around. Michelle grabbed a bite of her food and frowns at it slightly, expecting more of the taste. It was good, but for a chief who was going to the most rigorous cooking school in the country, she had tasted better. Jayna and Prudence sat down with their heads hung low in an obvious 'We-Don't-Know-Them' kind of manner.
The LaSane boys, all except Jason, make their way over to the three. They stood stiffly in their suits. "Look, how about this: we ignore your half of the family and you ignore ours. And don't speak to us during school," he started to rant off the different things they were to do or not do, including, "You and your family will stay locked in your rooms when we have friends over, or parties going."
Michelle kept her somewhat emotionless face, her eyes half lidded and her frown evident. She only stepped in when her sisters started to seethe.
"Look kid," She said her voice empty. "You can't put restrictions on the way they live, just because you want to. They live in your home now too; you can't just decide on their movements."
"Oh? And what about you?! You act as if the restrictions won't even affect you."
"They won't, I go to college and live on campus. I'll only be at the house with you guys this week, and the occasional visit. So no, these idiotic, problem inducing restrictions will not directly affect me. Now when my brothers and sisters call me and complain about what imbeciles you are being, it will affect me. So please restrain from putting useless restrictions on the lives of my siblings. Even if you did do it, then that would just mean that they would expect the same of you guys, and I don't think you would enjoy constantly being locked in your rooms."
Jax looked absolutely furious, and glared at her as the other Jackelson's returned. Lyle and Blake were smiling brightly and ran back "Sis!"
Blake grabbed her leg and giggled, hanging on. "Daddy said you were staying for a few days! Can you make crepes tomorrow?" He exclaimed, grinning widely.
"Of course, love." She rubbed her little brother's head with a smile, the younger boy looking at Jax and going emotionless.
"Oh. Hello Jax," he says somewhat monotonous and turns back to his family, grinning once more. "Sis, sis! When were you planning on heading back to school?"
"Well the plan was for me to head out next weekend. I've missed quite a few assignments already, and I'll need to make them up, thankfully this week is break. So when I head back I'll have time to make up the assignments I missed last week."
"I can't believe we've gotten you for three straight weeks! I love weddings!" She giggled at her little brother.
"I do too. Did you guys have fun dancing?"
"Yea! Grandma said that we did a fantastic sprinkler!"
"I saw it," she said quite amused.
Lyle laughs, "Grandpa took one look at us and walked away!"
"I can imagine! Why else do you think your sisters were trying to kill you?"
"Because we're too awesome!" He grabs his brother and goes back to the dance floor.
She smiles and turns back to Jax. "How about my side of the family stays out of your way. And you stay out of ours."
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID EARLIER!" His hands were clenched into a fist, his nose and eyebrows were all scrunched toward the middle of his face, and under his rarely neat blonde hair was an angry expression pigmented red.
"No. Earlier you said it and then put restrictions on our life. I'm saying, we will stay out of your way but we can do whatever we want with in the house."
Jax is about to reply before a hand lands on his shoulder. "I hope you kids are getting along well?" Elena steps out from behind her son.
"We are doing fine Mrs.Elena. Just chatting about how chaotic the house is going to end up being from now on-this many kids? You're going to have your hands full! Specially with our boys. I wish you luck with them."
Elena smiled gently, saddened just a bit that she was still referred to as 'Mrs.Elana.' "Thank you for the warning, and yes, our house never has any quiet, with so many more kids I don't think we will get anymore anytime soon!" She turns around and plants a kiss on her husband's cheek, Jeffery having just walked up with a new glass of wine.
"What's up with you guys? All gettin' along?" He questions with a crooked smile.
"Daaaaad." Jayna drawls the word before grabbing his arm, careful not to slosh the wine. "I want to go home and practice."
"Hunny, the reception has barely started!"
"Dad. We have been here for an hour-maybe two. I'd like to get home too. Jay and I have been working on a new song, and I came up with a new melody I'd like to try out." Prudence's voice was strong, but quite, soft, but loud enough to get her point across to her father.
Jeffery check his phone, appalled that it had already been an hour, almost two. It felt like only a few moments to him. "Sorry girls. Time passes when you're having fun. The boys probably should go to bed, Michelle, can you take everyone home?"
"I want her to take our half home." Lyle says, his eyes determined and unforgiving. His eldest sister smacked her hand against the back off his head. Elana schools her features, but not before most of the family seems the hurt expression on her face. Jeffery's face is apologetic, kissing his wife, and sending his son a look that meant they would be having a conversation later.
Lyle pouted and turned away towards his sisters for comfort, seeing that many of them were just as disappointed with his actions. "Whatever. Can we just go home. I'm tired."
"Like I said. If 'Shell will drive the bunch of you home then I have no problems. The moving van will be getting here tomorrow, so I want all of you to go to sleep. You are going to need it."
"Alright." Michelle steps in and smiles down at her little brothers and sisters. "Let's head out to my car." The kids follow happily, all of them ready to go home and hang within themselves. The LaSane half of the home heads to a different car, Jason sending Michelle a quick and polite nod, watching his siblings crawl into his car. They drive away first, not having to get the you get kids into any car seats like the Jacleson family has to. The ride home in both cars ends up chaotic and lively, a brief respite from the somber and angry tune that they had just been playing. Once they arrive at their new home, a large home that could fit the many many siblings, they head to their own rooms and went to sleep. The morning was going to be hard work and they all needed to get ready.
