Chapter 2

Silence filled her surroundings. No screams from the creatures that attacked her. It was quiet for a good while before she was able to stand up. However, she felt something on her back that weighed her down. She felt claustrophobic at the realisation of rubble on top of her. She fought the rising panic and the overwhelming in her chest. Slowly, she balanced herself on all fours, careful not to hurt herself in the process. As she removed the debris, a low grunt was heard from her. After it fell to the ground and cracking in the process, Sila shook herself to let off any dust that crept between the cracks of her scales.

As she stood, at first she faced a grey wall but as she turned around, everything she saw before the little incident, before that robot that nearly crushed them, was wrecked. The wooden table that the doctor previously used as an operating table was now laying on its side, the body that lied ontop of it was no where to be seen. Obscured by the rubble and dust.

Movement caught the corner of the eyes of Sila, watching a thin figure rush towards a set of stairs that led to another room. In curiosity, the dragon followed him, watching his back as he moved about the room. He kept muttering the word 'brain' multiple times before turning back down the set of stairs, casting a quick glance at Sila before dismissing her presence.

Whatever he searched for was obviously important more than the situation at hand.

She stopped just before the stairs and watched him walk in a hurry from the other side to the one Sila woke up in. As he passed by, she managed to get clearer view of his facial features. The lights reflected on him. A thin, scrawny-like face as his cheekbones were slightly shown. A dark mustache was covering the top part of his mouth, jet black hair on his head that was cut short. Green eyes looked around frantically before settling at one corner.

Sila took a step back as he rushed to get a hold of a green cylinder container. She narrowed her eyes to see a brain in it, floating in the liquid it was in.

A brain? How can it survive outside the body? She thought.

"You're Doctor Edward Richtofen, right?" An American accented voice spoke up from the other side of the room. The dragon and the man infront of her stared at the soldier that walked towards them. "You're comin' with me."

Sila realized nearly immediately that he was the same soldier that she intersected with with the other two. She wondered where the other two were.

As if on cue, the other men all stood up, as if materialised from the debris, staring strangely and cautiously at the figures that surrounded themselves. One was a Japanese warrior, seeing the katana that rested on his waist with his hand resting on its hilt, ready to use at any moment. The other wore a helmet that surely meant that he was a pilot just by the goggles on his head.

"Ve do not have much time," Seemingly, the man that picked up the container that had the brain was the doctor? Looks like the others are here for the same thing: get the doctor and leave. "Zhey'll be back here soon. Ve have alot of zhings to do - starting up zhe conversion generators, zhe drone for Maxis, zhe gatewa-"

"You bet you don't have much time. Which is why I'm takin' yo-"

A sudden scream cut out the words of the American, making everyone glance around them in alert.

To the left of the Japanese was a broken down wall, and what climbed in put everyone on high alert. Whatever the weapon each one held was out and aimed at the distorted figure, except for Sila who stood still with her wings opened upwards slightly and talons clenching on the cement ground.

A moment later, a trigger was pulled and a gunshot was heard. The bullet flew right in the middle of the rotten body's head, silencing it's scream in an instant. It fell to the ground with a thud.

"What is this madness?" One of the men growled, turning to face the German with confusion and anger.

The German, Edward Richtofen, opened his mouth to speak but another scream followed by a groan was heard just behind Sila. The dragon jumped back, her wings flaring to balance herself before growling. In a swift movement, her tail went sideways to swipe at the corpse's legs. It's weak legs swept to the side before the dragon brought her claws at his neck and smashing it down onto the ground, hearing it scream in agony before dying out. Blood splattered on her scales at her whole arm. The dragon felt suddenly disgusted, looking down at her scales before glancing at the other men who stared at the dragon with bewildered expressions.

"If we're finding a way to definitely escape all this," the American started before facing the doctor. "Then I'm with the German."

It was silent for a moment until everyone nodded in agreement.

"Follow me." Richtofen beckoned.

Without glancing back, Sila reluctantly followed.

"How long has this been going around here?" Sila asked as she watched the German kneel down next a machine of some sort that had cylinder containers empty. Four of these surrounded the small room. Edward placed the brain container down on the ground before bringing his hands up and pressing on a few buttons. The blood on his hands glistened brightly from the light above them. What did he need that brain for? Surely they were in trouble with the all the undead attacking them.

"Perhaps an explanation to this could be helpful," The man that wore the helmet had a Russian accent.

Edward paused the continuous pressing on the buttons for a few moments before continuing to press. As he pressed the final button, he grabbed the container with one hand and a pistol in the other.

"Just what did your men dig out of the ground?" The American seemed to ask alot, everyone pestering for an immediate answer.

"An element," He responded glancing at all the men, hearing a computerised voice fill the room. 'Conversion generators in progress.' right after. "An element of great power. Enough to fuel our armies for eternity."

Not long ago then..., she thought. Must've used it only to augment the soldiers for better fights.

Sila stared expectantly at the German, urging him to go on with tilt of her head.

Richtofen sighed before continuing. "After ve reached zhe catacombs at zhe dig site, my... men began to get sick. Vithin a day, zhey became like zhe ozhers: living dead."

Everyone went silent for a moment. "But zhere is a way to eliminate the undead hordes."

'Conversion generators are fully operational.' A ding was heard right after, signaling that the generators were fully powered up.

The once four empty cylinders were now filled up by a bright blue liquid. This was something Sila realized. It surely was Element 115. She glanced down at her claws, remembering that herself was created by the same Element. It was strange how these dead soldiers and scientists were reanimated and brought back to life - but still dead inside and all they wish for is flesh to infect. This was nothing like Sila. She didn't turn at all. Could the amount of 115 in her body depend on how much she consumed? Her claws clenched into fists as the blue light mixed with her own blue scales.

Did they know about this? Back in her facility, they clearly knew what was going on but didn't think of giving her any warnings. She mentally scoffed at that, seeing how typical of them to do so.

Not everything was the same after Watford died. Rules became strict and someone else took control of the laboratories and the whole facility itself. His name was still a mystery to the dragon. And the way he treated her was as if she was a type of animal that was vicious and hoping by violent actions and orders that she would listen. She was no where like that. She has the mind of a human that had a slight bit of animal instincts by the Element. It was what  enhanced this mythical creature.

"Follow me. I'll have some things to aid us for the fight that we may struggle in." Doctor Richtofen said warily before turning and rounding around a corner and heading out a door. The door slid open from up, sliding downwards and letting out steam from within of its sides.

As they stepped out, a cool breeze swept aping everyone and all shivered involuntarily. Heavy clouds circled a specific area far ahead, above structures of some sort that Sila couldn't see well unless she neared it. A single light shine from within the spiraling clouds, shining a bright white light. Something significant and unbelievable. Strange how Sila didn't realize it from the first time before she met the four. Was it even there before she came?

The four figures followed hastily, each speaking to one another.

"You think the German's got something up his sleeve?" The American started.

"If true, such manners of helping us shouldn't deceive us." The Japanese responded.

"Looks can deceive..." Sila muttered as she walked behind the group.

"This is madness! How could the Germans develop such things?! Perhaps we should end this one's life." The Russian exclaimed in frustration.

"You can vaste time arguing or you can do vhat must be done to survive!" The doctor hissed at the men, as they walked past the trenches and onto what looks like to be another generator. "Zhe choice is yours. Eizher vander alone to your deaths or stay vith me to escape your demise."

Sila shot a glare at the doctor. He stared at every and each pair of eyes infront of him with a warning look before turning and entering into a dark and dim lit room.

They had no chance but to follow him. He knows this facility better than anyone. Well... from the looks of it.

The little building structure they went in was about to cave in any second just by seeing all the cracks on the walls and the ceiling that was caving in halfway. However, something to their left caught their eyes. Sila's head raised slightly and approached it cautiously.

It looked like a rectangular box, a long width with a skull of which looked awfully similar close to a human skull that settled just on the middle. It was covered in grey but bright blue gems shone through its dark, hollow eyes and staring right into Sila's pair of blue eyes. "What is this?"

"Zhis is a box zhat retrieves weapons of zhis generation and zhe ozhers in the future." Edward explained as he walked up to it and casually lifted the top of it upwards. But instead of going backwards like a normal box and to everyone's expectations, it flew up but only a few feet from its original place. Bright light shone in between the separated part and out were weapons, changing every millisecond until it settles on one. And what he got out from it was a sleek black weapon. She didn't know what it was and was sure that this was no where in this time.

"Ah, zhis must be from zhe future then. Light but could kill..." Richtofen chuckled before stepping back and urging on for the others to try them. Except for Sila. She couldn't hold a weapon. Her talons weren't made for such occasions. She only had four talons on each leg. As the other got their weapons, some weren't enjoying the gift they've gotten and some got the weapon they wanted. The American got a large, heavy machine gun that he was somewhat proud of having, something American she believed. The Russian got a silver colored gun that had a narrow barrel. A gun Sila that haven't seen. And the Japanese muttered words after he's gotten his weapon: dual wielded pistols. Sounds like he doesn't like it.

"Are ve all ready?" The doctor questioned before everyone nodded.

"I will return to this box..." The Japanese stated with a scowl before following everyone out.

In order to go to the land that Richtofen had in mind, they had to pass through another building, climb up a good set of stairs and finally walk out and enter another trench. But the more they walked upwards, the spiraling clouds were finally closer. Sila couldn't stop the gasp that escaped her mouth. The clouds that spiralled upwards had a bright light right in the middle, casting light downwards at the center of a construction that was surrounded by rocks and stones of Element 115. She couldn't tell if it was day or night. Her eyes had to squint, as if she was staring staring at the sun itself. As if claws from the ground sprouted and curling from up, ready to crush of whatever is in its grasp.

"Ve vill see zhe undead in higher numbers," was what the doctor informed them.

Great. She thought.

A rumble was felt suddenly, soft at first before another one was felt. Each one after the other was stronger. A noise was followed right after. Frowning, her head swivelled and looked to her right. Yet another gasp escaped her lips uncontrollably. Gigantic humanoid machines approached the group with wide footsteps.

"Zhese machines are generated by the Element 115. Zhey patrol zhe area." The doctor stated.

"Well," Sila sighed and sat back on her haunches. "They did a great job." Richtofen gave her a confused look before the dragon answered. "They let me pass."

A zeppelin passed overhead before disappearing into the clouds. But what still piqued the interest of the dragon were the spiraling clouds. It was much closer now but still above, still hard to see.

"Come. Ve can't continue to gawk at zhem. Ve must activate all generators." Richtofen declared and turned around, heading to Sila's left.

As they followed after him, the American seemed to stroll beside Sila before piping in a question. "Who deployed you?"

Sila gave a side glance at the American. Honestly, the facility she grew up in was a facility she still doesn't know where it is. But it wasn't that far from here. It took her two days and one night to reach here. But that's without stopping for rest. So it was near Germany. Could be around its borders? High up somewhere that the facility itself was hidden from the world? "I... Well, that's classified. To me, actually. But what I do know, it's not far off from here. Secluded as well. I've never left the facility until today and here with the same reason: get the doctor and leave."

The American grumbled something under his breath that she couldn't quite catch.

"You got a name?" He asked curiously.

The dragon was about the reply with a snarky comment but held it back. But what also surprised her was the idea of the American who wasn't fazed of seeing a mythical creature infront of him.

"Sila Myrak." Sila introduced, taking a quick glance beside her for any of the undead.

"Name's Tank Dempsey. Corporal at the Marine Corps." He responded right after with a soft grin.

The duo continued to walk, following the German. Silence hung among them except for the large robots that stepped around as if menacingly. They stepped away from the damp mud onto metal floors. Infront of them was an exact replica of the previous generators.

The generators were activated within a short while, but this time, undead appeared from swirls from corners of the generators. They appeared as if they protected those generators. The difference from of the previous undead to these ones, they had traces of curved lights around their chest with blue hues. The men shot them down and Sila managed to weaken them by swiping her tail at their legs and clawing at their upper body to kill them. It was the process she used the most which did help.

Soon enough, the generator was done and everyone seemed to take a moment to breath in properly. She could tell by their faces that the fight they're putting up was tiring and stressful.

A thought battled in her mind. She can just snatch the doctor and return. But if she did, she needed to either grab him when the others weren't around (which wasn't most likely to occur). Or kill off the others. But if she did kill them off, as if killing innocents that just came here and did their duty of serving their country, protecting it from future accidents.

Should I even return? She thought. They'll treat me like trash. As if I'm just another soldier that they get to treat like with brutality.

Would it be worth it to go back? Atleast she had a bit of freedom right now.

We'll just have to wait and see.

An alarm, similar to a siren, wailed, alerting the five survivors. "This doesn't sound good." Tank Dempsey muttered, glancing over everyone them around them.

A sudden rumble was felt, and then another and another. As if an earthquake hit but not as bad. A large figure was approaching them. What it looked like was a heavy armored suit made its way towards them. For a moment there, they thought it was aiding them until it stopped, raising it's left arm and shooting out what looked like a hook attached with a chain. It was directly aimed at Sila. She barely missed it and dodged, flattening herself to the mud. She grunted before watching the hook retreat.

"It's a good time to run, y'know!" Dempsey called out before turning and ran down the path they just came in. Soon enough, the others followed hastily.

"What is that?!" Sila shouted from behind them all, making sure the others wouldn't fall back. She glanced up at Richtofen that stayed behind, his face showing pure horror.

Every now and then, Richtofen would stumble but quickly pushes himself up. "Mein gott... Nein. Vhat have ve done?" Was what she heard him whisper.
