Chapter 8- Ancient Greek Embarassments
Two Weeks Later
The last two weeks had been eventful. Olivia came out as a lesbian to our group of friends, and Jason and Anna had started sneaking glances whenever they thought no one was looking. I had also picked up the habit of spending my free period in the library instead of at the tree. I wasn't talking to Christopher, and he noticed it from my stony expression in Math and (Shocker!) Chorus. Yup, that's right. The boy could also sing.
Yet another Monday morning had come around and surprisingly, I was up before Payton knocked on the door. I had thrown on my clothes in such a manner that I honestly didn't know what I was wearing until I looked in the mirror. I was wearing a Doctor Who 'Bow ties are Cool' t-shirt with jeans and my black converse. I put my hair in a ponytail and worked on getting my things together before Pay showed up. I wanted to get a head start to my locker so I wouldn't bump into Chris before I absolutely had to.
Suddenly the door opened and I ran to the door carrying all my stuff. I quickly turned Payton around and pushed her towards my car, and she got the message that I wanted to leave quickly.
"What is it?" she asked.
"I just want to get there quickly." After that, we didn't talk much the rest of the ride. We pulled into the school and once again I ran. It was nothing against Payton of course, but I wanted to avoid Christopher as much as possible. Sadly, my attempts were all in vain as he walked up beside my locker.
"Hey!" he said. When I didn't respond he frowned. Ugh, he was so adorable. I mentally scolded myself for thinking that. I was mad at him. "Are you mad at me?"
'"Yes. Now I don't want to be late for class."
"We have a half hour till class starts, Ken. What's wrong?" I slammed my locker door shut.
'"Ken, what is it?" He grabbed a hold of my arm as I tried to walk past him. I looked back at him over my shoulder. His eyes were filled with concern, and I felt my heart yell at me to get over it. But I couldn't. What he had done was wrong, and he didn't even know why I was mad at him. Or that I knew...
"What's wrong? Nothing. Why do you even care?" I replied stubbornly. I knew if I didn't get away from him I would end up crying. Being around him hurt now.
"I don't know what I did." he faltered.
"Well, you should." With that I broke his grasp on my arm and walked away down the hallway. I was even closer to tears now, but I didn't want him to know that. When I turned the corner the tears broke loose. I ran into the bathroom and stayed until it was time for class to start. I walked into the classroom my red eyes giving away that I had cried. I had tried getting rid of the redness, but it didn't work. It was still there as an awful reminder that I was weak.
I sat next to Olivia in class. "Are you okay?" she asked. I knew that this was awkward for her, but since I was her best friend she was willing to make an exception. "No." I said, my chin wobbling slightly. I was done crying. This was just me, being mad. "I'll tell you everything later."
"Ken-"
"Liv, please? I need some time. I promise to tell you everything. Please be patient,"
"Okay." she said and sat back in her seat. At least she wasn't pestering me too much. I'd tell them all later, but I just wanted to get through this lesson.
Unlike the last two weeks I actually payed attention to class trying to focus on anything but Chris's eyes staring at the back of my head. I didn't look back but I knew it was him, he was the only one that even slightly payed attention to me.
When the class was over I ran out. My heart pounding, I stopped in front of my next class, History. I was hesitant to go in until I remembered we were learning about Ancient Greece.
Ancient Greece was my area of expertise. And there was nothing more that I needed right now than to just shout out random facts and show all the other kids up. (Except maybe Harry Potter. Or a sad romantic movie.) Either one would work perfectly. So, I pulled on my biggest smile and stepped in walking to my seat in the front. I was happy to see Anna slip in the door next followed by Olivia and Taylor, another friend I was kind of close with.
"Hey Tay. How's my favorite geek?" I teased reaching to hit his shoulder. He quickly caught my wrist and smiled.
"Now Kendra, what did I say about hitting me?"
"Ummm... Nothing?"
"Well, I should've then." he laughed.
I stuck my tongue out at him and he just shook his head. I grabbed my book, The 5th Wave, and read until the teacher arrived.
"Class! What can you tell me about the Minoans?" Mr. Lawson asked. My hand instantly shot up.
"Uhh, Brandon!" Mr Lawson said. I gave an annoyed sigh as Brandon proceeded to answer the question.
I looked at Olivia from across the room and she glared at Brandon on my behalf. The two talked more than me and him did.
I was disappointed that I wasn't able to sit with Olivia, or Taylor, but I had gotten over it. Plus it made us better at lip reading.
"The Minoans were the first greeks. They lived on the island of Crete," Brandon answered.
"Wrong. Anyone else? Kendra, go ahead."
"The Minoans were not the first Greeks. Those were the Mycenaeans. They lived on Crete. Archaeologist Arthur Evans found the city. Archaeologists think that the fall of the Minoans were caused by Undersea Earthquakes."
"Good!" Mr Lawson said as Olivia gave Brandon a look and I saw her say, "You're not as good at Greek history as Kendra and I. Don't embarrass yourself." he pretended to look hurt, but they both then sort of smirked at each other.
I giggled lightly underneath my breath.
"Obviously, Kendra has been studying up on her Ancient Greeks," Mr. Lawson laughed out. I smiled and nodded.
As Mr Lawson continued talking about the Mycenaeans and Minoans I tuned out, I knew everything he was talking about. So I looked towards Olivia, she was sitting in her chair almost falling asleep of boredom from knowing the information as well.
At one point her hand slipped from her wrist and she hit the side of her cheek on the desk. Everyone in class turned to look at her, and she glanced down in embarrassment.
"Way to go Olivia." Taylor said and she gave him a death glare.
"Continuing," Mr Lawson said and launched more into maps and territories on the early Greeks.
History was my favorite class. It was a shame it was ending soon. Then came LA.
LA was an awesome class. Except when your teacher assigns an essay on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, on how their love changed their families.
Sure the story was fine, but all the writing and discussing was overbearing and a bit annoying.
It was nice to get Christopher out of my head for a while. But the more I thought about how nice it was to not think of him, the more he kept coming into my mind. He was always haunting my thoughts causing me more pain. I just couldn't get the picture of him and that girl out of my head no matter how hard I tried.
I physically shook my head to clear my thoughts of him, and Olivia noticed. She looked over at me and mouthed "What is it?"
I just told her back, "I'll tell you everything later."
"I'm getting tired of that line," she mouthed back.
"I promise." was all I said back.
"Then I have to tell you something as well." I spent the rest of the period wondering what it could be.
A/N
I am a terrible person. I haven't updated in almost 2 weeks. Also, thank god for Phase57. She literally stayed up till 11:39 , just so she could help me write this chapter and the next one because I had writers block. She's an awesome best friend! ❤️❤️❤️ New chapter up later!
I am counting Phase as a cowriter because she is helping me now with the rest of the book (because she's an awesome writer and I can really learn from her!). This means I need a new cover. Look out for the change!
Love you Guys!
