Chapter 17- Almost Time To Grow Up

After watching Finding Nemo, Andy and Gen retired into his room while Liv and I retired into mine. It took a while but sleep finally overtook me. When the morning came, I was grateful. It couldn't have come fast enough.  I couldn't tell whether the feeling I was experiencing was joy or absolute terror when I woke up.

I was graduating and there was a chance I wouldn't see my fellow class members till our High School Reunion. My best friends would be scattering all over, and I couldn't do anything to stop it.

I was also closing a chapter of my life that I will miss, even if it did suck sometimes.

"Hey, are you okay?" Liv asked me, in half a whisper. I had woken up in a panic, and was now sitting straight up in bed breathing heavily.

"Yeah I-I'm f-fine. Just thinking." I told her half heartedly, laying back down on the bed and covering my face with my hands.

"You're going to miss him. Taylor." She said. There was always a way for Payton, and Liv to contact me, but she was right. I didn't know how much I'd see Taylor.

"4 years. I won't be able to just talk to you any time, or hang out with you, or anything for 4 years," I said in response.

"We've been over this. I'll always be there for you," Liv said, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"I know that, but there's going to be a time difference. How are we going to find time to talk to each other when we are In different time zones?"

"You can call me when it's 3 am, and I'll listen to anything you have to say. You know that," she rubbed her eyes and said, ending with a yawn.

"I know. I'm just going to miss you." I sighed, wrapping my arms tightly around my body.

"What time is it?" Liv blinks and looks over at my alarm clock.

I shrugged. "I- I don't know. 4 or 5 maybe?"

It reads 5:12 as I glance over at the glowing red numbers, and feel my stomach rumble.

"Let me guess," Liv starts. "You're hungry?"

"When am I not?" I laugh, running my hand through my hair.

"Let's go downstairs. There's no way I can get back to sleep now," Liv says and swings her legs over the side of the bed and stretches. "C'mon."

"Sorry for waking you up," I mumbled, slowly following behind her.

"I was awake for about an hour before you did," she shrugs and walks over to my door. She opens it and peers out for a seconds before stepping out, trying to be quiet so as not to wake Gen.

I tried not to trip and fumble over my feet as we made our way to the kitchen. I gripped onto the counter as I reached it, shaking my head to try and shake my grogginess.

"Um, you okay?" Liv looked over at me. "Forget how to work your legs?"

"I'm fine, just a little woozy and off balance. I'll be ok in a little bit." I gave her a small smile, and slid into one of the seats.

"Well I'll make you pancakes," she says and starts looking through some of my cabinets.

"Thank you."

"The ceremony starts at three, and then the party afterwards starts at six. We're still going right?"

"Yeah. Chris really wants to go, so I'm gonna make an effort to at least stay there for an hour before calling a quits."

"It's going to be fun," she tries to convince me. Both of us happen to have Social Anxiety, but this did actually seem fun. A pool party with all of my friends and new boyfriend.

"I'm sure it will be," I give a small half smile, and rubbed my eyes.

Liv finds whatever she looking for and then says to me, "Do you have a griddle? Or do I have to use the stove?"

"Griddle. Third cabinet on the bottom to the right. I think."

"Thanks," Liv says and pulls it out. She plugs it in and starts making the pancakes. "How many times has Payton had to make breakfast for you?" She looks over at me.

"A couple times. Of course there were a bunch of times I ran out of the house with just an apple."

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Maybe that's why The Doctor never came and may you his companion."

"Well shit. I never thought of it that way."

She gives a snort and flips over the pancakes that are cooking. "How is it, with Eleven by the way?" She says the name in a teasing manner, and I know she means Chris.

"Good. He's my own personal Doctor. Who would have known that the boy decked out in leather was a big cuddly nerd." I laughed. "I'm just hoping nothing goes wrong."

"Was he really wearing leather that first day?" Liv holds the spatula to her chin and gazes off to the distance, thinking before she pulls her hands back down to her sides, raises her eyebrows once and smirks while saying, "Kinky."

"You did not just say that," I giggled, not able to wipe a smile off my face.

"Oh, but I did," she winked at me as she took all the pancakes off the griddle and stacked them on a plate, bringing them over to me.

"Putting that aside, let's eat!"

Liv sits down across from me and takes one off the top as I dig in.

"How are you and Anna?" I asked, my mouth full of the golden deliciousness.

She gave a loud sigh and then smiled. "Great, but nothing much has really happened. I really like her, and I guess I have for a while, but I don't know if it'll last when I leave for England."

"I'm sure everything will be fine between you two."

"Has she talked to you at all recently?" Liv asks.

"Not really. Last time I really saw her was when she asked you out."

"Well, she's not going to college," Liv states bluntly. "She wants to move to New York and start a publishing business. I mean, I'm not upset or anything, and she should do what she wants, but I just hope she's able to not only make it, but live in New York."

"It's going to suck being away from her, but if she does make it you guys can work together! She can publish your writing!"

"I guess so," Liv shrugged as she stole another pancake from the pile.

"I still don't know what I'm going to do. And I leave for college in 60 days."

"Liv, you are an awesome writer! Be a professional Author. I believe in you, and so does everyone else in our friend group. But if that's not what you want to do, than ok. You don't have to. But it's something you are great at."

"I want to be an author, sure, but I need something that pays first. And that's where I don't know what to 'be'." She sighs through her nose and then says, "You've wanted to be a kindergarten teacher since 5th grade, and I still haven't decided."

"You have 60 days. We will come up with something together."

"Hey," Gen said as she stumbled downstairs, rubbing her eyes.

"Morning," I look over my shoulder back at Gen as she steps off the last stair. She gives a slight smile and walks into the kitchen, the door swinging shut behind her. She reappears a second later in the window at the counter, starting the coffee.

"How are you feeling about graduating today?" She asked, resting her elbows on the counter so she can focus on me.

"Pretty nervous," I sigh and kind of give a smile. "Actually, very nervous."

"It starts at 5 right?" Liv asks, looking over to Gen and then at me.

"Yeah. I think so. Then Chris is picking me up at 8 for the party. Which I think I'm more terrified for."

"I think everything'll be fine," Liv told me. "Although I wish Taylor were coming," she shook her head. "He couldn't even just stay one night before he went away. He's leaving right after the ceremony."

"That sucks. But you guys have each other, and your dates. You should be fine. If you aren't, I'll take you guys to get tattoos. Just don't tell Andy."

"Aren't you going to take us anyway?" Liv asked, as Gen looked down at her mug as she lifted her mug from under the Keurig.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she looked up, an innocent look on her face as she stared at Liv and took a sip.

"What are we going to do until the ceremony starts?" Liv asked me.

"Well, we could go to the bookstore or something," I offered taking a second to think about it.

"Or Hot Topic?" Gen offered.

"No wait," Liv said and then smiled. "I have an idea. Let's go get our hair dyed." She looked over to Gen, whom had bright blue hair, and smiled even bigger. "What'do'ya think, Ken?"

"I love that idea!" I replied, grinning widely. With that all of us left and went to the nearest salon. "What color are you getting?" Liv asked me. "I think I'm just going to bleach everything and make it blue and purple. I've hated my ginger hair for a long time."

"That's cool. I think I'm going to dye my hair red," I responded. "If my parents ever come home, they are going to freak."

"They'd freak out over anything," Liv said shook her head.

"Who's ready to go first?" A girl walked up behind the counter and Gen turned to look at her.

"I'll go first. Then these two will go," she gestured behind her as she pulled out a credit card.

A few minutes after Gen paid and went back, another woman walked up and said, "who's next?" I raised my hand and she led me back to a chair. "What do you want?" She smiled.

"Could you dye my hair red and black?"

"All of it?" She asked me, running her fingers through my hair.

"All of it," I nodded. "And do you think you can cut it to make it into a fringe?"

"Of course," she nodded and draped a cape around my neck.

I sat for about an hour and a half and kept my eyes shut so that way I didn't see what I looked like. When I was done, I opened my eyes and saw them widen. It looked so much better than I thought it would. "Oh my god," I said and put my hand to my mouth. The hair dresser smirked and said,

"I'm guessing you like it?"

"Yes. Oh my god yes." I looked around and spotted Gen standing next to Liv's chair. Her hair was just getting done being completely bleached and looked a weird and very pale reddish white color.

I jumped out of my chair and walked over to her. "Gen, oh my god thank you so much I love it!" I grinned. "And I love your hair too,"

Gen grinned, and laughed. "I love your hair as well."

Her hair was purple with blue lacing through it in curls. It looked amazing.

"Are you excited Liv?" I asked, looking at her through the mirror.

"Hell yes," she smiled and the guy doing her hair smiled. "There's a Hot Topic across the street if you guys want to go and wait for me in there," Liv suggested.

"Okay," I nodded and looked to Gen.

We walked across the street and opened the door to Hot Topic, and LA Deevote by Panic! At The Disco greeted us. I instantly felt in my element as I walked over to the section with the Supernatural merch.

"Welcome," a girl behind the counter smiled. She had tattoos covering her arms, dyed black hair and lip piercings. She was also wearing a My Chemical Romance t shirt and when I looked over at her, and just said "nice shirt."

"Nice hair," she said back.

"I literally just got it done across the street," I said, trying not to sound too awkward.

She nodded again and went back to looking at something as I continued on back to the supernatural merch. Gen struck up a conversation with her, but I couldn't really hear anything they were saying.

I found a really awesome t-shirt that said 'Driver picks the music, Shotgun shuts his cake hole'. I picked it up and smiled.

I walked back up to Gen and showed it to her. She smiled and gave me a thumbs up.

My phone buzzed and I took it out of my pocket, "I'm done, I'll be over," Liv said.

"Liv is coming," I told Gen as I placed my shirt on the counter. Gen paid and then Liv walked in.

"It's almost 2," She checked her phone and walked up to us. "Let's go home and get ready for graduation."

A/N

WE ARE BACK, IN BLACK. And I'm excited. (AC/DC is awesome.) Any way, I'm so excited.  I really like the idea to dye the girls hair, all Emma's idea by the way, and it's awesome. There is a lot of dialogue in this chapter, but I still like it a lot.
