Chapter 40- Bailey's POV

I opened the door when there was a knock on it and was shocked and surprised to see Blake standing there with red eyes and tears streaming down his face. "Blake?" I asked before I instantly grew concerned when I didn't see Sky with him.

My heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in my chest, and worry settled on me like a thick blanket.

Oh, God, please let her be ok...

"What happened? Where's Sky?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, grabbing the door tighter and not moving out of his way.

Blake shook his head and rubbed his eyes, and his bottom lip quivered while sniffled. "Can I come in?" he asked, his voice cracking. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Please? I know it's not five yet, but I need to come in. I-I-" He shook his head while he trailed off, grimacing and another wave of emotion washed over him.

I frowned and slowly nodded before I moved out of his way so that he could enter my house. "Come in," I said, gesturing for him to go inside so that I could close the door and lock it behind him. "What happened?" I asked when he stepped in, and I quickly looked around outside to make sure that we were safe and alone before I closed and locked the door before I turned to look at him, biting back a small frown. "What's going on?"

"My mom happened," he said and shook his head, moving a hand through his hair and across his face. "That's what happened."

I blinked and blinked a second time, pressing my lips into a thin line. I didn't say a word and folded my arms across my chest while I waited for him to actually answer my question and not just saying that something happened with his mom.

Blake cleared his throat and licked his lips, and his whole face turned red while he shifted on his feet. "Ummm, can I get something to drink, please?" His face turned another shade of red, and I couldn't help but cock my head, amused that he was becoming bashful for some reason. "My mouth is a little dry."

"Of course," I said and nodded before I started to make my way to the kitchen with him following me. "Uncle Dalton and Mr. Dawson are here. They are in the kitchen."

Blake nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. He didn't say a word, and I had a feeling that his whole body was shaking while his mind was going a mile a minute.

"There is also an off duty cop here, too," I said randomly, remembering the other male that was in my house checking in on everything. "Well, he just got off the clock and was checking in on everything before he made his way home to his wife and kids." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line.

"Why?" Blake asked, and his voice cracked and was filled with concern. He cleared his throat and licked his lips. "Is everything ok? Are the kids ok?"

"Yes," I replied and nodded in confirmation, and my heart grew warm when I heard the concern in his voice. "He was a family friend and had been the one to pick me up at school when my parents were... ya know..." I couldn't help but trail off while I grimaced and shrugged with my heart breaking into a million pieces. "He dropped me off at Uncle Dalton's house that night."

"Who?" Blake asked.

"Joshua Kendrick," I replied. "He actually lives in the neighborhood and has helped our family out a couple of times."

"And you trust him?" Blake asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he stared at my back. "Right?"

The hair on the back of my neck stood at attention, and a small shiver went down my spine when I felt as if something had gone wrong, which was why he was asking me these questions. "Why?" I asked, not giving him a response about me trusting this cop friend of mine or not. "What happened?"

Blake paused and hesitated. "Let me get something to drink first, please," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I will answer your question after that. I promise." He cleared his throat and hesitated. "But do you trust him?"

"W-"

"Well, she better," the officer said, interrupting me as soon as we were close to the kitchen doors. "I was the one that had taught her how to shoot and got her her first gun."

"Which, I am still not happy about, Joshua," Mr. Dawson said protectively, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl, amused. "She is still a child."

"A child that has lived by herself since she was fifteen on her own accord," I said and entered the kitchen with Blake following me. "Isn't that right, Mr. Dawson?" I gave him a pointed look and raised both eyebrows in unison.

Mr. Dawson rolled his eyes and scowled before he took a sip of his drink, and I couldn't help but become smug because that meant he had no comment for me at all.

"Uh huh, that is what I thought," I said before I turned to look at Blake. "Anyway, as I was going to say before I was rudely interrupted, I trust Officer Kendrick with my life."

"Even though I am not an officer," he said and winked teasingly at me, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.

"Ok," I said, and he bit back a small smirk. "He is the Captain of the city police here in town. However, he does the "normal" stuff too, for some reason."

"Damn straight," he said, "especially if it deals with your addresses." He rubbed the back of his neck and cleared his throat, looking sheepish. "I am still worried about finding you dead, Bay."

I rolled my eyes and scowled, even though my cheeks turned red, and a small feeling of warmth washed over me. "I will be fine," I said and shook my head. "I have been fine."

"And you have been in hiding, or must I remind you of that, Miss Pierce?" Mr. Dawson asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he gave me a pointed look, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and press my lips into a thin line.

"You can call me, "Miss Prescott" in front of them, Mr. Dawson," I said and walked over to the fridge to get Blake a bottle of water. "Everyone here knows that is supposed to be my last name and not "Pierce."" I gestured toward the island. "Go ahead and sit down in one of the chairs, Blake. I'll get you some water or do you want something else and not that?"

Blake shook his head and walked over to the island. He sat down and pressed his lips into a thin line while he stared at the three men that had been a part of my life for ages before he looked at me. "Water is fine," he said, and his voice cracked.

He cleared his throat and grimaced, placing his hand on his throat. "Where are Trevor and the kids?"

"Basement," I replied and shrugged with a small grimace on my face. I grabbed him some water and walked the bottle over to him while the three men watched and stayed silent. "We were discussing Sarah, the future of either Miss Piece or Prescott, and if they are allowed to stay for dinner with you, Sky, and your mom."

Blake didn't say a word and looked away from me when I said that. He took the water bottle from my hands without touching me or giving me a small smile in thanks, and for some reason, I couldn't help but feel alone and sad.

Stupid feelings...

"Which... is still happening, right?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. I walked over to the other side of the island to give us some distance and studied him with a small frown on my face and furrowed brows, sitting down in one of the other chairs. "Or did something happen?"

Blake didn't say a word and took a sip of his water. He seemed to be weighing the pros and cons of what he wanted to tell me, tell us, and I could tell that he was debating on whether or not to get them involved in whatever this was.

"You can tell us whatever you need or want to, Son," Officer Kendrick said and shook his head. "We will help you with whatever we can do, especially since Bay had given us a small gist of what had happened."

Blake looked at me and slowly blinked, and I couldn't help but look away from him with my cheeks turning red and guilt blossoming into my system. He didn't say a word, and I couldn't tell if he was happy or mad that I had said something to them without his permission.

"I didn't say much," I said and shook my head. "All I said was that there was something wrong going on at that house, and that I was worried about you and your sister. They were wondering if they wanted to get the full story from you or not."

"If you are willing to tell us, that is," Officer Kendrick said, and Mr. Dawson nodded in confirmation. "We would like to help get both of you to safety, and if it means leaving your mom and dad behind, then so be it."

Blake took another sip of his water, and a look of doubt flashed through his eyes while he continued to weigh the pros and cons.

"You and Sky fan live here or at the apartment," I supplied, silently praying that he would tell them something, anything, to get Sky away from that place. "Or you can live at Uncle Dalton's house, if he is ok with that." I glanced at Uncle Dalton when I said that.

"I am," he said and nodded in confirmation. "You both can live at my house for as long as you need to. Trevor wouldn't mind, and I still have some of Bay's old things that Sky could have when she was her age."

Finally, Blake sighed and slowly nodded, moving a hand through his hair and across his face. "Ok," he said, "as long as we can get Sky out of the house today and not some other time because of courts and whatnot being open or whatever else may happen because of it."

"As long as you tell us the truth, then we can make something happen until Monday when the courts are open," Mr. Dawson said, and Officer Kendrick nodded in confirmation.

He smiled and tucked his head closer to his chest, and a look of worry flashed through his eyes while he looked at the young man before us. "You have our word."
