Part 1

"Irene, it's just for a couple of months." Namjoon groaned, his hands gripping the steering wheel as he did 65 miles down the bumpy back roads. It was late at night, probably around 10pm, and there hadn't been any other cars along the road for miles. The moon and stars were covered in clouds, so it made it harder for Namjoon to see the road as he drove along it.

"But why at a place your parent's chose?" Irene hissed at him, checking over her shoulder to see their 5 year old sleeping soundly in her car seat. Namjoon rolled his eyes, letting out a loud sigh at his wife's question. "Irene, we're living on nothing. I had no choice."

"We could have stayed with my brother back in New York. He has that apartment-"

"I don't want to stay with your brother, Irene." Namjoon turned to her with a scowl, looking away from the road for a moment. While he wasn't looking, however, there was a large thump against the car hood, so intense it shook Lily awake. Namjoon was quick to look back to the windscreen, seeing nothing now as whatever they'd hit had now gone underneath the car and was on the road behind them.

"What was that?!" Irene asked, frightened by the loud bump. Namjoon shrugged, internally asking himself the same question. "It was probably a fox." He didn't stop to check. He wasn't really interested in stepping outside of the car to see what it was in such dark weather and that late at night. Who knew what was out there?

"They have foxes out here?" Lily asked as she looked through the darkness of the windows beside her. Her mother nodded, turning in her seat to face the girl. "And little rabbits, too!"

"Hares." Namjoon corrected. Irene turned to her husband with a frown, annoyed at his correction. "Hares." She repeated, turning back to her daughter with a bright smile. "Yep!" Namjoon agreed, "And they also have bears here too."

Lily gasped, frightened by the thought of the big, fluffy monsters that could maul you to death.

"And wolves..." Namjoon went on, his tone sounding as if he was attempting to scare the girl in a teasing manner. As he'd expected, Lily gasped again, looking pleadingly toward her mother for comfort as she cuddled the doll in her arms tighter.

"Namjoon, cut that out."

"What? I'm telling the truth." Namjoon excused, looking at her through the corner of his eyes.

"You're scaring her."

"So telling her about the animals that live here is scaring her, is it?" Namjoon scoffed, rolling his eyes as he looked towards the road. Irene gave him a scathing glare before sitting back in her seat and looking out the window away from him.

"Here we are!" Namjoon announced to the sleeping females in the car as they neared the large sign for the suburb. "Begonia heights!"

Irene quickly pulled herself from slumber, rubbing her tired eyes so she could get a better look at the sign. "Thank God." She sighed. "That took forever."

Namjoon hummed in response as with one hand on the wheel, he used his other to pull out a small note from his pocket and handed it to her. "That's the address. 13 Raven court, Begonia heights." He informed her as she read the neat handwriting on the note. "I've got a list of directions on there. It's not very complicated," He added, "Just turning a couple streets."

"Number 13, though?"

"Irene, don't be so superstitious."

Irene rolled eyes as she looked down at the note, squinting to read out the first directions in the dark. "First left after the sign." She told him as he drove along, nodding his head. He turned on the first left street, which was named 'Black Bird Street'.

"What next? I'm coming to an intersection."

"Turn right on Goose place." Namjoon nodded as he turned right, the dim lights of the car illuminating the street sign with the name Irene had mentioned. Namjoon wound down his window and took a big whiff of the night time air. "Hmm," He hummed to his wife, "Would you smell that? Trees." He smiled. He had grown up in Michigan – where his family currently lived, but had moved to New York as an adult. He missed the place.

"It's eerily quiet." Irene retorted, her eyes skimming the note in front of her for more directions.

"It's not eerily anything, Irene; it's just not New York." Namjoon scoffed. Irene had spent her whole life in the noisy depths of the city in New York. It took Namjoon a whole lot of convincing to drag her away, and even now as she sat there she still wasn't happy about it. The whole place was new and foreign to her.

There was silence for a moment as the car buzzed past another street. "Where do I go now?" Namjoon asked, looking back at the street sign he had passed, wondering if they were meant to turn down there.

Irene pointed to the street sign that was very close in front of them. "This street." She told him, but Namjoon was too busy looking at the other street to notice as they drove past it.

Irene let out a huff as she pointed to the street that was now behind them. "That was the street you were meant to look down." She threw the note into the air as she flopped back in her seat, irritated at her husband.

"Calm down, Irene, I can turn around." Namjoon grumbled as he pulled into a different street, intending to use it to turn around.

"You could have just listened the first time."

"I was looking at something."

Irene snorted an irritated blow through her nose. "Maybe you should look at the road instead then, huh?"

Namjoon swiftly turned the car around, heading back for the street they were supposed to turn down. "Don't take it out on me, Irene, just because you didn't want to come here."

Irene was silent as they turned down the street – Raven court, her arms crossed and her eyes glaring at her husband. "I'm not taking anything out on you." She responded quietly.

"Sure looks like it." Namjoon sneered. Before Irene could retaliate, Namjoon reminded her of the number of the house, slowly creeping the car through the row of houses till they could find their number.

Finally, when they reached the round cul-de-sac at the end of the road, they found the brick mailbox displaying the number 13 in large black numbers. They pulled into the driveway to inspect the front of the house. Just like the others in the neighbourhood, it was a large, two storey residence with the signature tawny brown coloured roof and mustard coloured walls. The driveway was smooth and cemented, surrounded by manicured hedges. It was pretty much the copy of every other house in the whole street.

"Here we are!" Namjoon announced happily as he swung open his door and clambered outside. Irene followed suit with much less enthusiasm. There was a distant sound of chirping crickets in the air as the couple looked toward the house, both very tired and ready to get into whatever bedding Namjoon's parents had set up in the house. Namjoon took a quick look at his watch. It was 12am. Damn, we better get to bed. Namjoon told himself internally.

Namjoon walked over to the door to Lily's seat and opened it up. Seeing that she was asleep, he gently slid his hands underneath her and pulled her up from the seat to rest in his arms. He turned to Irene, careful to whisper to her just in case the other neighbours were sleeping. He didn't want to leave a bad impression. "Hey, grab the keys from the ignition and open the door." He whispered loudly, gesturing to the little girl in his arms.

Irene was quick to grab the keys and walk towards the house door. She swiftly put the key in the lock and pushed the door open for her husband behind her. Stepping inside, she could smell the faint aroma of a cooked meal, which upon turning on the lights, she figured out was sitting on the table and had been left there with a note from Namjoon's mother.

Namjoon quickly pushed past her to find the little girl's bedroom – which Namjoon's mother had said was down stairs as the house layout was rather odd. After looking in a few doors, Namjoon found the bedroom. It was perfect for the girl, with pink coloured walls covered in flowers and fairy stickers. The bed was covered in a cute pink sheet and boxes of toys were laid out through the room.

Namjoon smiled at the effort they had put in to ease the process of getting the girl comfortable in her new home.

Irene, on the other hand, frowned as she walked into the room. How long do they expect us to stay here for?! She groaned to herself as she looked around the expanse of the room, eyeing off the mounds of unneeded toys piled up around the place. Irene knew Namjoon's parents were filthy rich, but this was just a little over the top – especially for a place they weren't intending to stay in.

Namjoon slowly put his daughter into the bed, tucking her into the pretty sheet as he kissed her goodnight. When he walked out of the room, Irene was standing in the hallway, looking none too impressed as her hands placed themselves on her hips.

"A couple months, huh?" She sneered, gesturing to the room. "Have you been making some plan behind my back with your parents? Trying to coax me into staying here?!"

Namjoon's face contorted into a scowl as he shut the little girl's door behind him. "What stupidity is that, Irene? Of course I didn't."

"Why all the unneeded decorations and toys and painted walls, then?"

"You know my parents are very lavish, Irene." Namjoon reasoned, "Besides, they haven't seen Lily in months. They probably just wanted to spoil her. They're probably just trying to help us." Namjoon watched as the harsh frustration in Irene's eyes softened, and he could see that she got his point. Silently, she spun away from him and made her way to the kitchen.

"I'm just going to get some things out of the car." Namjoon announced quietly as he slid out the front door and to the driveway. As he stepped out, however, he noticed something on the porch at the house across from theirs.

There was a silhouette of a figure, illuminated by the lights inside the house behind them, just plainly and blatantly staring at him. It was weird to see someone outside so late at night, but Namjoon wasn't one to judge. The person had probably just seen them pull up in the empty house's driveway and gone to look. New neighbours were probably the only interesting thing the people in the neighbourhood had. Cheerfully, he stuck his hand up in a wave to the figure, who immediately waved back, just as cheerfully.

That's when Namjoon noticed something in the figure's other hand, which was pointed down toward the bushes below their porch.

A hose.

A/N:

Hello and welcome to 'Regular neighbors but 1000 times worse.'

Neighbors sometimes just be vacuuming their grass to look conspicuous so they can see what shit is going on at your place- I swear.

Anyway, was there any part that stood out to you?

Do you think I should keep going?

Was it creepy enough? Because I didn't edit this and most of it was kinda rushed because I was so excited to get it out there :/

Anyway, baiii
