Part 3: Prisoner
L POV
I wake up the next morning to a knock on my door. "Babe, she's going crazy again." R complains through my door. "And she's demanding to see you."
"I'll be out." I say, sounding gruff. We haven't even had this prisoner for twenty four hours and she's already caused so much trouble. She's almost escaped three times. I had severely underestimated her capability. She was a force to be reckoned with. I throw on some pants and a button up shirt. It was too late to cover myself now, she'd already seen me.
I walk into her cell, irritated. "Can I help you?"
She has one hand out of her trap and looks annoyed. "Yeah, you can tell me what is going on."
"You've been kidnapped." I say, retying the rope around her.
She scuffs. "Yeah, I got that, what I'm having a hard time understanding is why." Her teeth are gritted as she speaks.
I click my tongue. "You have a lot of nerve asking your captive what their motive is."
"Really, I thought it was fair." Her eyes send daggers at me. "I thought you were different."
I bend down next to her face. I am momentarily stunned by her beauty. She's gorgeous, I can see why Blade was so enamored by her. It takes a lot more than looks to win me over though, she'd have to do better than look pretty.
When my mind is clear I speak, inches from her. "I don't think you understand princess, I decide whether you love or die. So, I'd suggest being nice to me."
She keeps her face set, no fear can be seen to my disappointment. "Last time I checked, you're not God." She narrows her eyes at me. "How long have you been this person?"
"Since birth." I whisper, making her shiver.
My little captive squirms against her ropes. "I don't believe you. What happened to you?"
I shake my head. "You're going to make this worse for yourself if you try to humanize me."
"I trusted you." She said softly.
I roll eyes. "Who you trust and don't trust is not my problem princess. "
"Why do you keep calling me that?" Her tone is angry.
"Just take a look at the perfect life you live, fit only for a princess." I strain to keep the jealousy out of my voice. "I mean, what struggles have you ever had."
The hurt shines on Amaya's face. "You and I both know that my life is far from perfect."
I laugh cruelly. "You're right, it must be so hard getting close to being a big time lawyer, and having family and friends who love you."
"You have so many people who love you and a great career, what are you talking about?" She growls.
"You're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about." I take deep even breaths to calm myself, this woman was really getting under my skin.
"Then enlighten me, isn't that what your creepy letter promised?" The irritation in her voice is obvious. "According to you I'm not going anywhere anyways so why not tell me what you're not saying. I know you're dying to."
She's wrong, I have nothing I am dying to say to her. It would do me no good to express myself to her. In fact, it's much better for me if she stays in the dark. The more she knows, the more of a problem she'll become.
I run my hand across her face. "Don't be a complication, then I'll be forced to get rid of you now."
"Get rid of me? What is that supposed to mean? You're going to kill me?" She chuckles. "I doubt it."
I punch the wall next to her, bruising my knuckles. "I keep telling you, you don't know me!"
"Yes. I. Do." She says, breaking up the syllabus.
The turmoil inside makes me feel sick like I've been on a wild rollercoaster. I can't tell her the truth, but the more we talk the more I want to. The person she thinks I am is a trigger for me.
Why can't she just fear me like a normal person, why does she have to make this so hard? I've spent my whole life creating my independent identity and she keeps arguing with that. It kind of makes me want to kill her. I can't yet though, I need to keep alive or the plan won't work. Why does she act like she knows that, there's no way she could. Either this girl was really smart or really manipulative and either one is dangerous. I would not allow myself to fear this aggressive little creature.
"If you know me so well then why are you asking me why you're here! Don't you know me well enough to be able to pick up on why you're here?" I retaliate.
She takes a deep breath. "Let me out of these ropes."
I laugh I'm disbelief. "Why on earth do you think I'd do that?"
"Two reasons; one, I'm asking you too and two, you want to prove that you conquer me. You can chose you're favorite." She speaks so confidently it annoys me. She knows what she just did, she challenged me. Now if I don't let her out of her ropes I'll look like I'm afraid of her. Last thing you want as a captive is to look afraid. Amaya was giving me a headache. I begrudgingly walk to her and free her from her ties.
She is on her feet in a second, staring up at me. "Thank you, those ropes were starting to burn."
I roll up the rope in my hands, avoiding her intense glare. "Don't get used to it, I'm only giving you a small break." I lay the ropes down on the chair and turn to her. "You'll be back in them shortly."
She comes in front of me, arms crossed. "What's wrong?"
Her question catches me off guard. I don't know how she couldn't see that she was the problem. "You, but you already knew that."
"Oh and what exactly am I doing to bother you?" She places a hand on my arm gently.
I stare down at her hand on my skin. "You're making my life extremely difficulty, unnecessarily so."
She smiles. "Good, because the feeling is mutual. I trust you even though you literally kidnapped me."
Why was she doing this? She doesn't trust me, I know that for a fact. "You shouldn't."
"Awe, you're not as bad as you think you are." She whispers in my ear.
I feel goosebumps crawl up my skin. "Neither are you princess."
She yanked my arm and pulled me down to her level. "Don't call me that, you never used to call me that."
"I've also never kidnapped you before but here we are." I try not to sound nervous as I speak.
She presses her hand against my stomach and looks up at me. "You know what you have done before?"
I squint, unsure where she's going with this. "What's that princess?"
She wraps her arms around me tightly and kisses me. I stumble backwards into the chair. She was very pretty, but it felt wrong to kiss anyone besides R, especially an enemy. I end up sitting down in it and she grabs the rope. "What do you want from me?" There's something different in her voice, a threatening sound that wasn't there before.
I stare into her eyes that are devoid of fear but overflowing with anger. "Did you just try to seduce me? I should've warned you that wouldn't work."
She plays with the rope. "You know I used to be a Girl Scout, I learned how to tire all kinds of fun knots."
"I bet you learned how to bake some really delicious thin mint cookies too, huh?" I went to stand up and she kneed me in my most sensitive area, bringing me back down.
"Now but I can pretty much buy and sell anything, including you." She brings the rope around my neck. "How's it feel to have your life threatened, hmm?" She has a crazy look in her eyes, telling me she'd kill me right now if she didn't want answers. "Give me a reason!" She yells in my face.
My hands slip with sweat as I grab the rope, trying to give myself more air. I suddenly feel claustrophobic. "You can't kill me. You know it, I know it so why play pretend?"
She tightens the rope a little more, starting to block my airway. "You don't think? You better be pretty sure about that because it's a pretty big risk to be taking if you're wrong."
"I'm sorry if I've scared you Maya, I'm only doing what I have to." The words struggle to come out. I tried my best smile.
She laugh humorlessly. "What you've done is kidnap me and tie me up, try again."
I lean as close to her as I can, talking a risk.
I free a hand just enough pull her near me. Her eyes grow wide as I whisper. "Nice try princess, but you forgot who's in charge." With that I intertwine my legs with hers, making her sit and push her into the chair. My hands move fast, she's tied up in a matter of seconds. I take a deep breath, that was a close one.
She is quiet for a moment, but only a second before her smart mouth starts moving again. "How long were you sitting on that one?"
I smile sarcastically. "I'm always one step ahead, keep that in mind." I circled around her chair, keeping one hand on the back. "I'll bring you some food later, I want to give you some time to cool down."
"Thank you so much." She rolls her eyes. "I hope you're not making it. I have a strong suspicion you're a terrible cook. I'm already bruised from this stupid rope and cold, the least you could do is give me a decent meal...like chicken Parmesan."
I chuckle. "You're not on death row so you don't really get to request a final meal, you'll probably get my left overs. Why don't you try just sitting here and looking pretty?"
She shifts in her seat, unamused. "I'm not pretty when I'm hangry, trust me. If you think I'm a menace now, wait til you see me without proper food."
I shrug carelessly. "I'm looking forward to finding out. It will help entertain me while I wait for everything I've planned to fall into place."
"You clearly want to talk about what you're evil scheme is so just say it." She scuffs.
"Nice try but no." I turn my back to her. "You should try to get some sleep."
She glares at me. "Are you for real?" She yanks at rope that are restraining her. "This hurts. You might not want to leave me hungry and in pain if you're trying to keep me here."
I raise an eyebrow. "Oh yeah, you're going to escape? You already showed me you're incapable of that." I tug a little on the rope. "You're not getting out of this rope for a long time after your last little stunt."
"Please you're afraid of me now?" She stared at me, her gaze piercing holes into me. "How am I supposed to eat without proper use of my hands?"
I bend down, making myself eye level with her. "I'll spoon feed you like the child you are."
"You think you're so smart but you're forgetting about one very important thing." She pauses, a challenge in her eyes. "You never asked about where the letter you told me to bring is."
I freeze, I'd completely forgot about the letter. "You clearly want to talk about it, so why don't you?" I try to keep my nerves at bay, but panic courses through me.
Her voice is quiet but strong when she speaks. "I didn't bring it. Maybe you should've done your research and you'd know I'm not one to follow the rules." She pauses, waiting to see if I'll say anything. When I don't, she continues. "It's already been almost 48 hours now, I'm sure someone found it. I put somewhere those who care about me will notice it right away, it's safe somewhere you'll never find it."
I walk out of the room, trying not to freak out. This was bad, this was very bad. This girl was too smart for her own good, something I should't have underestimated.
