(3rd POV)

Y/n was processing the information he has slowly been building up. Through a skill called Hive Mind that came from a sub route of Seize. It's been about a week since he talked to Wels.

Hive Mind: Resurrected Monsters minds can be read and things they hear can be sent to the the users mind.

Y/n focused on learning a skill like this so he can sent monsters all around and see if they find anything about his father's book, and the girl Julia. He didn't want to waste time looking since that would hinder his ability to grind lvls for him and the girls.

Speaking of the girls they were busy slaughtering mobs in the forest again. They were currently traveling to a village named Mirso. A unknown plague has been ravaging the place and no one knows why. Y/n wanted to check it out since he might be able to get more ideas for skill upgrade or new ones.

Y/n watched as he saw Fu and Yu's levels increase to 21 and 23 respectively. Fu's physical abilities were starting to out class Yu's, while Yu's magic was far stronger then Fu's. The problem is that Yu had no AOE magic skills. Y/n still didn't know why or how the girls systems worked for them.

Y/n also wasted a lot of time traveling. He's been researching a lot for new skills, but struggles to find the breakthrough he's been looking for. He didn't fully mind walking since they got to do a lot of grinding and the scenery was always nice, but a faster means of transportation was needed to get to stronger areas.

They were getting there. Since they started they have made lots of progressed and at this rate he was hoping they would just make the requirement before the next wave. Y/n wanted to see what else the swords had to offer, plus some rest where he doesn't have to have his monsters protect them from other monsters being drawn towards the swords.

The world was certainly wearing on Y/n. He was having fun with the girls, and not everything has been bad, but there's only so much a person can take. He heard some rustling next to him and Yu came out of the bushes. Above him Fu jumped down from a tree. They have also gotten much bigger. Y/n wasn't sure why yet, but he was going to ask Naofumi if he saw him again.

Y/n: Girls?

Fu: We saw a village up the mountain!

Yu: Yeah! It's right over there!

Y/n: Good work. Did you see anything else?

Fu: Oh! I saw Raphtalia!

Y/n: Really!? Was she heading to the village as well?

Fu: Yes she was in a carriage being pulled by a big Filolia!

Y/n: That's good... Fu can you get to the village and tell them I will be coming

Fu: Right!

Fu ran off at top speed. She was pretty much out of sight in an instant. Y/n looked at Yu and she had her head down. He placed his hand on her head and rubbed it. As she looked up at him he gave he a small smile to cheer her up.

Y/n: Don't try to compete with her Yu. There are things she can only do and things you can only do. I don't expect you girls to be able to do everything

Yu: I know I just don't want you to be disappointed Master...

Y/n: Impossible. You girls have always exceeded my expectations

Yu: Really?

Y/n: Of course! Even if i've only had you girls for almost 2 months you are precious to me

Yu: Thank you Master!

Yu hugged Y/n who returned it. He decided he should try to get her some skills. Fu seemed to be excelling in combat and using her skills, but Yu didn't have a very friendly to combat kit.

Y/n: Yu I want you to try something for me

Yu: What's that?

Y/n: Draw your sword

Yu listened to Y/n and drawed her sword. He stopped and faced a large rock next to them. He then signaled for Yu to stand next to him.

Y/n: Ok now i want you to close your eyes and search for your magic inside your body

Yu followed his instructions. She went quite as she looked inward. He face looked to be a little tense so Y/n patted her head and it relaxed. Y/n smiled as he got a notification.

Y/n: Ok now channel it outward, and think about forming a ball

She gave a deep breath and continued. Y/n could see the small particles of different magics slowly emitting off of her. They continued to amass until small balls of fire, ice, water, light, wood, rocks, wind, poison, lightning, and darkness floating behind her.

Y/n couldn't contain his smile. Several notifications popped up in his face. He was also curious about one other notification he hadn't seen before.

Novice Magic User

He didn't know titles were a thing here. Titles usually don't add any buffs, but sometimes games liked to make them. The system seemed to be one of these features.

Novice Magic User - A person who is a novice in magic use. Through diligent work and effort they are on track to achieve true magic mastery.

Mana increases by 100

Mana regenerated 10% faster

Magic resistance increased by 10%

Since it had novice as a prefix Y/n assumed this title would have more tiers. He also wondered if Fu and himself could get a title, but he would need to know how to trigger such an event. Those buffs Yu got aren't anything to shrug off, and if that's just novice level he wondered what master would be.

This also shows Y/n that Yu also learns skill the same way he does, so he was going to assume Fu would also be the same. If that is true then he should be able to force some skills and push them both in the right direction for learning skills on their own.

There was one more thing Y/n wanted to try before they stopped.

Y/n:

Yu slowly opened her eyes and saw ten magic orbs floating in the air. Her eyes widened as she became transfixed with them.

Yu: W-Whoa... Did I do this?

Y/n: Yep and I guarantee your sister can't do something like this... I want you to try one more thing

Yu: Okay!

Y/n: Can you try to combine them into a singular ball?

Yu gave him a nod and tried. They swirled around her before gathering in a cluster in front of her, but that's as far as they went until they dispersed.

Yu looked at Y/n with sadness, which he simply patted her head.

Y/n: Don't worry I didn't think it would work anyways. I want you to focus on learning how to use your magic

Yu: How do I do that?

Y/n: It's all about how creative you are and then applying that to your magic

Yu: Ok Master

Y/n: Now let's catch up with Fu. She's probably already at the village now

Timeskip

Y/n approached the village with Yu. Fu was standing at the entrance waving to both of them.

Fu: Took you long enough Master!

Y/n: Is Raphtalia here?

Fu: Yeah she and Naofumi are in that building over there

Y/n patted her head as he walked by. Much like Yu, she nuzzled a little bit into it. Both girls followed Y/n as he entered the building. They were stopped by a foul stench of death.

Y/n: Wait outside girls

They didn't have to be asked twice. They quirkily removed themselves from the doorway.

Y/n followed the sounds of voices, until he reached a small medical area. Inside the room were a few sick villagers, the village doctor, and Naofumi along with Raphtalia, and a new girl.

Raphtalia was quick to notice my presence and looked over at me. She also drew the attention of the others in the room.

Raphtalia: Oh!? Mr. L/n!

Doctor: Hey! You can't be in here!

Naofumi: It's ok he might be able to help

???: Who's that Master?

Y/n: I'm Y/n L/n. You?

Filo: I'm Filo!

Y/n shook Filo's hand and smiled at her, before focusing his attention.

Y/n: So how bad has this plague gotten?

Doctor: How did you know about that?

Y/n: I have my ways... Judging by the smell a few people have already passed...

Raphtalia looked saddened by that statement, along with the Doctor and his Nurse.

Doctor: Yes...

Naofumi: They told me it's being carried by the winds down the mountain. Apparently Ren was here about a month earlier

Y/n: Why didn't he harvest it?

Naofumi: I was wondering the same thing

Y/n: So we gonna go take a look?

Timeskip

Y/n and his party along with the Shield Hero's party were currently walking up a path on the mountain. With the Buff Naofumi gave to Filo, she pretty much killed every single monster in the way.

Everyone had a white cloth covering their noses and mouths. Another gust of wind washed down the mountain, along with a strong odor. Gear from adventures was laying around, already abandoned by their owners.

They came to an open area along the mountain. At the center was the corpse of the dragon. As they approached it, the remains started to move and the dragons eyes had a red glow to them.

Naofumi: A zombie dragon!?

The dragon breathed out a wave of poisonous gas. Raphtalia coughed a bit along with the group.

Filo: Now I'm mad!

Filo charged at the dragon, ignoring her master's calls.

He pulled down his mask and called out to her again, much loader this time. She looked back at him just as the dragon ate her in a single bite.

Raphtalia: FILO!

Y/n looked at Naofumi who seemed to be lost in his own head right now. He looked at Fu and Yu, and nodded.

The girls grabbed their swords and got ready for Y/n to signal for them.

The dragon roared at Y/n and his party as they walked closer to it. Y/n raised his hand and aimed it at the dragon. Several magical projectiles shot out of his hand.

It didn't do a lot of damage to the dragon, but it stunned it. Fu dashed past Y/n and ran under the dragon.

Clean Cut

The dragon lost its balance as its leg detached itself from his body.

Fu used a wall of air to stop herself and launched herself at the dragon's other leg.

The dragon roared as it fell to the ground. Yu stood in front of the fallen dragon, ten fire balls were floating behind her. She waved her hand downward towards the dragon and blasted his face with all ten fireballs.

Y/n was about to go and finish it off, but Naofumi came out of nowhere and push Y/n out of the way. His shield was on fire and he had red lines that resembled the skills along his body. Raphtalia rushed past Y/n and grabbed onto Naofumi, who seemingly wasn't listening to her.

Raphtalia: I believe you! Even if you can't trust anyone anymore, I trust you, I trust the great Shield Hero!

Naofumi stopped in his tracks. He gasped as he saw what he was doing. He looked over at Raphtalia who had dark spots around her body. She collapsed as soon as she saw Naofumi was back to normal.

Naofumi: Raphtalia! What's all this?

Naofumi looked horrified as he looked at his shield.

Naofumi: Don't tell me... Fast Heal!

He was shocked that it didn't work, and panic was setting in

Naofumi: Heal my target! Fast Heal!

Y/n placed a hand on Naofumi's shoulder to get his attention. He smiled at Naofumi when he looked up at him.

Y/n: Don't worry, we can help her

The dragon roared out in pain as a hole was torn into its side. Everyone was looking at it confused.

Naofumi: What just happened?

Raphtalia: Mr. Naofumi?

Filo rolled out of the dragons stomach perfectly fine.

Filo: I finally got back out!

Naofumi then remembered he had let Filo eat some of the red fruits earlier. So what they saw was when she got ate was not blood.

Y/n decided to let them have some peace and walked up to the dead dragon. He smiled at the girls as he approached.

Y/n Good job girls! That was amazing work!

Fu: Thanks Master!

Yu: Thank you Master!

Y/n inspected the dead dragon and nearly lost it when he saw the resurrection icon above its head. He jumped into the air and let out a excited scream.

Y/n: No way! I get a dragon!

Naofumi and his party walked over to them. Raphtalia is resting on Filo's back.

Y/n: Girls go help Raphtalia and Filo

They nodded, before helping Filo with Raphtalia. Naofumi watched as they walked down to the cart in worry. Y/n gave him another pat on the shoulder to reassure him.

Y/n: So you want anything from this?

Naofumi: I think Filo got something pretty good from it, so i'll check that out later. Some weird purple crystal

Y/n: Well then I'm taking this dragon

Naofumi: What do you mean?

Y/n: You would love this skill

Resurrection

The dragon's body started to move. It's limbs started to regrow and the hole in its stomach patched itself. Naofumi took a step back as he watched the dragon standing in front of him. He could hardly believe what he was seeing.

Naofumi: I-I can't believe this... I know you are the Necromancy Hero, but seeing it...

Y/n: Yep! This is the first boss monster I've tried it on. I can finally use one of my skills I've had since the beginning. Recall!

The dragon started to disappear into a purple dust. The dust swirled away from the dragon and around Y/n. It all met at the gem built into his scythe. It glowed a brighter purple as more and more went into it, until it was practically blinding.

Y/n looked at all the notifications he had gotten. All of them were obviously new to him. He wasn't sure if he could get rid of saved monsters so he never tired to use the skill.

Y/n: I'll have to explore more of this new stuff later. So Naofumi there is a few things I wanted to talk about with you

Naofumi: Oh?

Y/n: I rather it be when we have time and away from other. Never know who you can trust right

Naofumi: I understand... Don't gotta tell me twice...
