Dinner Dress-up

"Can't take care of myself. Pfft. I'm not a child." Vistial mutters to herself. Kili walks after her, not wanting to call out her name in case it spooked her. Vistial reaches her room (above). She slams the door behind her, right on Kili's face. Vistial jumps upon hearing a knock and throws her door open. Kili looks up at her with a shy smile.

"May I come in?" He asks. Vistial nods, opening the door. Kili enters the room, gaping at the size. "Wow. This is beautiful."

"Lord Elrond gave it to me when I was last here." Vistial explains. "I couldn't have asked for a better room."

"Dwalin was sorry for what he said. He didn't mean it like that." Kili says.

"Well, he shouldn't have said it. He humiliated me in front of Lord Elrond, Lindir, Gandalf, and the Company. It wasn't very nice." Vistial says, plopping on the bed. Kili sits next to her, grabbing her hand. Vistial feels her cheeks heat up and looks down to keep Kili from noticing.

"He really is sorry, though. He seemed hurt when you left in a hurry." Vistial looks at Kili. His chocolate brown eyes gaze softly at her.

"I'll talk to him. But first, why don't you help me with picking a dress?" Vistial stands, pulling Kili after her. She shows the dwarf to her closet, the dresses all organized by color. "You pick a dress while I go clean up."

"Okay." Vistial almost giggles aloud at Kili's thoughtful face as he starts to scan through the dresses. As she hops into the bathroom, Kili thinks for a moment.

'Not orange or red. Not black. Maybe green or blue.' The dwarf moves down the line through the green dresses. Not finding anything that he likes, he moves to the blue. A certain light blue color catches his eye and he pulls out the dress. Smiling, he nodded. This was the one.

"Did you find it?" Vistial says, coming out in a towel, her dark hair dripping with water. Kili blushes upon seeing her and looks away quickly.

"Yes." He says, holding the dress in front of him, face still turned and eyes closed. Vistial chuckles softly before grabbing the dress.

"Just don't look, okay?" The dwarf nods feverishly, covering his eyes. Vistial laughs, slipping on the dress.

"You can look now." Kili slowly takes his hands off his eyes to see Vistial downed in the dress. She was absolutely stunning. "I need some help with tying my back. Mind helping me?" She asks.

"Oh, sure." Vistial sits on the bed to allow Kili to reach better. Shivers run down her arms as she feels his fingers graze her back lightly. Finished, Kili stands, offering a hand to Vistial. She accepts, standing as well.

"Shall we go find the others?" She asks.

"What about shoes?" Kili asks. Vistial waves it off.

"I like to go barefoot sometimes. I'll be fine." Kili nods, offering her his arm. She takes it gratefully and the two exit the room. Vistial takes the lead, knowing the layout of the elven kingdom well. They reach the dining hall and Vistial laughs aloud upon seeing the dwarves. They all stop upon hearing her laughter and turn to the two in the doorway. Several of the dwarves wolf-whistle at Kili as they make their way in. Vistial blushes, making her way to the table where Thorin, Gandalf, and Lord Elrond sat. Both Gandalf and Lord Elrond smile as the girl nears, while Thorin looks between her and Kili with a smirk.

"Glad you could finally join us." Lord Elrond says as Vistial slides into the seat next to him. Vistial nods, smiling.

"Hey. Come on. Try it. Just a mouthful." Dori urges his youngest brother as the dinner carries on.

"I don't like green food." Ori says. Vistial tosses a red apple at the young dwarf, who catches it in surprise.

"It's sweet red food. Try it." Vistial nods assuring. Ori takes a bite, eyes widening upon the sweet taste of the apple. Dori nods his thanks to the girl, who smiles.

"Kind of you to invite us. Not really dressed for dinner." Gandalf says, bringing Vistial back to the table she sat at.

"Well, you never are." Lord Elrond laughs. As he inspects Gandalf's and Thorin's swords, Vistial listens to the other dwarves' chatter.

"Can't say I fancy elf maids myself. Too thin. They're all high cheekbones and creamy skin. Not enough facial hair for me. Although...that one there's not bad." Kili says.

"That's not an elf maid." Dwalin replies, looking at the young Durin with a smile. As the elf turns, Vistial almost chokes on her water. Sure enough, it wasn't an elf maid. Kili turns bright red as the other dwarves laugh at him. Kili looks over at Vistial and she gives him a small amused smile.

"Excuse me, Lady Vistial." Vistial looks up to see Lindir standing next to her, hand extended. "May I dance with you?"

"Oh, sure." Vistial says, slightly flustered. As the two dance to the elven music, Vistial fails to spot the death glares given to Lindir by Kili. As the song finishes, Vistial bows to Lindir.

"You're a marvelous dancer." He says, bowing.

"Thank you." She says, cheeks brightening. She takes her seat once more while Kili continues to glare at Lindir. Vistial is brought back once more to the table where she sits.

"13 dwarves and a Halfling; strange travelling companions, Gandalf. " Vistial hears Lord Elrond say. Vistial feels her blood boil, but keeps her mouth shut.

"These are the descendants of the House of Durin! They're noble, decent folk." Gandalf says. Vistial almost laughs aloud as Nori picks up what appears to be an ornate salt shaker and discreetly puts it in his coat.

"And they're surprisingly cultured." Vistial watches as Bombur stuffs his face with food.

"They've got a deep love of the arts." She notices as Nori turns to the harp player behind him.

"Change the tune, why don't you? I feel like I'm at a funeral!" The dwarf says harshly.

"Did somebody die?!" Oin exclaims.

"Alright lads, there's only one thing for it!" Bofur says, standing up. The dwarf jumps onto a plinth next to the table and starts to sing.

There is an inn, a merry old inn
beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the Man in the Moon himself came down
one night to drink his fill.

The ostler has a tipsy cat
that plays a five-stringed fiddle;
And up and down he saws his bow
Now squeaking high, now purring low,
now sawing in the middle.

So the cat on the fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
a jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
'It's after three!' he said.

Vistial laughs as all the dwarves join in, throwing food at Bofur. Kili picks up the apple next to him and roughly throws it at Lindir, barely missing. Vistial spots this and looks at Kili in confusion. Kili smiles at her, but glares back at Lindir. Vistial doesn't know what comes over her, but she finds herself running out of the dining hall, Kili calling after her. His voice fades as she continues to run. Reaching her room, she collapses on her bed, crying. Someone knocks softly at her door.

"Vistial? Are you okay?" Vistial hears Kili's voice on the other side of the door.

"I'm fine." She says.

"Are you sure..."

"I SAID I'M FINE!" She snaps. She hears Kili's gasp and immediately feels guilty.

"I'll leave you alone then."

"Kili, wait." She runs to the door, opening it to find an empty space. Kili had left. Crying, she returns to her room, falling on her bed once more.

'Way to go, Vistial.'
