Chapter 61

Me, not updating all Summer? It's more likely than you think.

___________

Once inside, all the students separated and went to different changing rooms, separated by both school and by gender.

"Woah! Looking good!" Mina exclaimed, looking over at Akina.

"Yeah, I'm digging the fantasy adventurer thing you have going on there." Jiro agreed.

Akina perked up and grinned, "Thanks guys, I thought it was time for a change!"

When she had gone to the development studio with Kirishima and Kaminari, she had decided to change her costume up a bit, and since she had requested a complete costume change, it took a bit longer for her to get the completed.

The colors hadn't really changed, but the style was completely different compared to her last costume. She had taken a bit of inspiration from Mira's Satan Soul, with her own flair added to it. The top was green, and the neckline dipped down to just under her chest. Layered under the top was a pleated cream-colored skirt. Her shoes reached up to her knees and were a mix of green, gold, and white.

"Honestly, I never understood why all those fantasy adventurers wear two belts." Tsuyu stated.

"One's to keep your clothes from revealing anything and the second, well, that one's just for style." Akina said with a shrug.

"Still seems a little excessive, ribbit."

"Excessive, but cool. Now, last one back to the auditorium has to fight a Vulcan!" She slammed the locket she put her uniform in shut and darted out of the room, leaving her classmates to stare after her.

"What's a Vulcan?"

***

Back in the auditorium there was already a large crowd of students waiting for everything to start. Akina looked around at the competition, everyone there looked older than her, though that made sense since most of them were second or third years.

Slowly, the rest of the room filled up with students, and an extremely tired looking man walk up to the podium, the chatter that had filled the room dying down as everyone looked up to him attentively.

"Okay then. Let's do this exam thing." He groaned, "I'm from, uh, the Heroes Public Safety Commission. Name's Mera." He hung his head, "My Circadian Rhythm is so screwed up. Ah, man. I've been swamped lately and I haven't gotten much rest. We're too short staffed. I'm so tired. With that confession, I'll now begin orientation."

This guy looks like he's about to pass out. Akina thought.

"So, about the content of this license thing. Basically, 1,540 examinees compete in a free-for-all exercise or whatever we're calling it this year."

"Seriously? That's not a lot of info." Sero muttered.

"Not real- urp" Akina started, suddenly feeling a wave of nausea wash over her.

"Woah, you okay there, Hayashi?" Kirishima asked, "You look a little green."

"I'm... fine." Akina forced out. Was something moving in here? It's not like she was in a train or car. Was the whole room moving?

"See, we've got a lot of pros around," Mera continued at the top, "and since Stain was arrested, many people've expressed doubts about the status of heroes in society. But, when you really think about it, getting paid makes sense. If you're going to risk your life to save someone, why shouldn't you ask for a reward, huh? That's just the way the world works. God I could use a coffee."

Akina tilted her head, only to regret it as another wave of nausea rushed over her, it was strange that some people thought that heroes shouldn't be paid, sure in this world being a hero was something more along the lines of helping people for the greater good but back home all of Fairy Tail were considered heroes and one of their biggest motivators were the rewards on job requests.

"Anyway, whether they're in it for compensation or out of a sense of duty, we've got too many heroes working together in the streets these days to keep villains at bay. Honestly the time between when an incident begins and when it's resolved is ridiculously short. You're all here trying to receive your provisional licenses, so you'll be swept up in this tiresome mess yourselves pretty soon. Those of you who don't have the speed, frankly, just won't cut it. Which is why that's what you'll be tested on. The first 100 students to fulfill the requirements will pass today."

"There are over 1,500 people taking this test. I thought they said that about half of us would be passing." Momo exclaimed.

"This means... it's actually less than ten precent who'll get a license." Tsuyu added.

"Oh, man, I'm getting way more nervous!" Jiro shouted.

"Well, the world can be pretty crappy. I suppose I should say something about luck. So, anyway, here are the basic rules." He pulled out an orange ball and what looked to be a flat sensor from behind the podium as the screen behind him lit up and showed a sillouette of a person and a larger image of the sensor, or target, he was holding in his hand, "The examinee will put three of these targets on his or her body. They can go anywhere as long as it's an exposed area. So no siles of the feet or armpits. Each of you will have six of these balls. The targets are programmed to light up whenever they've been touched by the balls. If all three targets light up, you're out. Oh, and the person who lights up your third target will get credit for your defeat. You get through this round by taking down two people. Got it? Good. Uh, I guess we'll start passing out the targets and balls. Then, you'll have a few minutes to get situated after we open."

Open? Akina thought, only to have her question answered a second later by the room shaking and the walls and ceiling falling around them, revealing an entire stage around them. The room must of risen up into it during the speech- explains her earlier nausea.

"I'm sure each of you have different terrains that you like or want to avoid. Use your Quirks well and do your best. Or not. Whatever."

As the balls and sensors were being passed out, Akina looked around at the surrounding scenery, it was almost like the USJ, but on a much bigger scale. There was a whole town, a waterfall, spiked hills, anything Akina could think of was there. It was amazing.

"Yes, I know, it makes for a great reveal, doesn't it? And for what? So much sleep lost for this. Hopefully some of these kids are fast and we can get this over with. Until then, I'm gonna rest my eyes." He walked away from the podium and left the students to get ready for the upcoming exam.

Akina grabbed the three sensors from the man passing them out and stuck them around her body. She placed one on her shoulder over her guild mark, one between her collar bones, and the third on her other shoulder. She hooked the balls she was given to her belts with some vines before she joined the rest of her classmates.

"Everyone!" Midoriya shouted, "Stay close together, we'll fight them as a group!"

"Mm." Uraraka agreed.

"Got it."

"Yeah right. This isn't a field trip." Bakugo scoffed.

"You're not thinking of going alone, are you, Explosion queen?" Akina asked.

"Of course! I can't imagine being stuck with you losers! If 'm going to win, I'll do it myself!" He huffed and walked away, Kirishima and Kaminari following after him.

"I'm going on my own too. It's hard for me to use my power safely when a big group's around." Todoroki said before running away.

"I think I'm gonna go off on my own too." Akina said catching everyone's attention.

"I thought you'd be the opposite." Uraraka said.

Akina shrugged, "Normally yeah, but there are so many different kids here, and maybe one of them can put up an interesting fight!" With that, she ran off to find some other students.

"She's going to destroy the stadium, isn't she?" Ojiro asked, all his classmates nodding around him.

***

There was a loud buzzing noise that surrounded around the stadium, "The first test will now begin."

With that, everyone started fighting.

Akina watched from her vantage point on top of the waterfall. She could see off in the distance where the group of her classmates were as they were being ambushed by a group of other students. But she knew her classmates would be able to handle it, after all the villain attacks, they've been through they've learned to be quirk thinkers under pressure. As for her-

She shot her arm out to her side, a magic circle appearing before branches shot out from the ground. She turned around and looked at who had been sneaking up on her. Two students, a girl with silver hair and a snake tail instead of legs, and a girl with orange, pink, and yellow flowing hair, almost as if it were a galaxy.

"Nice try but sneaking up on me is a futile mission." Akina said with a grin as she walked up to them, "Thanks for the points though." She grabbed one of the balls from her belts and walked up to the two, tapping two of their sensors on both of them.

"Only two? Aren't you going to finish us off and pass?" The galaxy haired girl asked.

"Hm? It's too early to do that. I haven't seen nearly enough of everyone's quirks!" Akina said with a grin.

"I knew she was terrifying after watching the Sports festival... but this is almost pure torment." The silver haired girl muttered.

"All's fair in in the midst of a battle." Akina said with a grin, flicking her hand and making the branches retreat from the two girls, "Now, good luck!" With that she waved at the two and jumped down the waterfall, splashing into the water down below. As she swam towards the shore, everything around her started to shake and in the distance, she could see a mountain break apart and fall to the ground. She let out an excited gasp, whoever could cause that kind of destruction was the exact type of person she wanted to fight.

There was a yawn over the speakers as Mera started speaking again. "Come on. There should be at least one or two who've passed by now. Stop biding your time and get this over with."

Wow, someone's impatient. Akina thought as she pulled herself out of the water, using her magic to dry herself off. "Now, now, let's find some worthy students." In the distance she could see a whirlwind building up and decided that there was where she was headed next.

"It's about time somebody perked up and passed." Mera said, then he screamed in almost horror, "What?! There were 120 people taken down!? A single person managed to do that in just one attack? That actually surprised me so much I'm wide awake! I assume we'll see a lot of people passing from now on. Everyone lets get this out of the way so I can take a break. Good? Good."

"120, huh." Akina thought as she walked into the city landscape, seeing a crowd of people strewn about on the ground. "Man, that mean's they passed! And I was looking forwards to fighting too!"

"Passionate! I like it!" A voice called and a familiar scent came upon Akina as Inasa walked up to her with a grin, all of his sensors glowing blue. "If you can pass this exam then we can have a little sparring match!"

Akina perked up, her eyes shining as she looked up at the taller boy, "You mean it? Seriously, really?!"

Inasa grinned even wider if that was even possible, "Of course! I'm a man of my word!"

"Awesome! Now I'd better actually get serious! I'd hate to lose now when a battle is on the line!" She huffed and jumped up a building, landing on the roof and looking for a group of students. Winning by ambushing two people was boring, and after Inasa's show she felt like she needed to show off a little herself.

She jumped along the buildings looking for a battle to join in on below her. There were a few spats of students but most of them were between two or three students and not what she was looking for.

Eventually the sounds of a big battle made its way to her ears. She got to the edge of the city area she was in and looked across the middle, seeing what looked to be at least 200 students going at it in an all out free for all. A grin made its way to her face, this would be perfect.

She jumped up into the air, "Nature Dragon: Groundbreaking Kick!" She exclaimed, a magic circle appearing at her heel before she spun in the air and slammed her heel against the ground the moment she landed, causing the earth to spike upwards all around her and disrupting the battle and getting the attention on her.

"No way." One of the students whispered, "It's UA's Dragon."

"Hell yeah! I've been waiting for this chance!" Someone called and the harsh scent of fire infiltrated Akina's senses. She jumped in the air and just barely avoided a large fireball that would have made it's mark square on her back if she hadn't reacted as quickly as she did. Before she even had a chance to take a breath, a barrage of attacks were sent straight at her. Fire, water, ice, bits of steel, horns, anything she could think of was being sent straight towards her.

"Rose's Defense!" She chanted and a flower sprouted up around her, protecting her from the attacks before she jumped out, "Nature Dragon: Sundrop!" The sun above her shone bright and only seconds later, rays flew down from the sky, causing chaos all around her and incapacitating all the students around her.

"Man, thought at least someone would put up a bit of a fight." She sighed, just before she let out a short shout of pain. She turned around to see the same kids from before still standing, his hands ignited in flames.

"Not taking me down that easily!" he shouted with an excited grin.

"I'd hope not!" She lunged forwards and drew her fist back, landing a hit on the boy's gut before getting punched in the face herself by a flaming fist. She jumped back and pressed a hand to her face, feeling heat radiating off of it. She landed a few feet away from him, watching as he raised his arms above him and clasped his hands together, the fire gathering and getting bigger and bigger the longer he held them together. Even from where she was standing the heat was almost unbearable.

"I'd like to see your flimsy vines and trees withheld against this! Ultimate Move: Apollo's Comet!" He shouted and sent the giant ball speeding towards Akina.

"Wow, that's quite impressive." Akina said, looking at the flaming ball with a smile. "Though, compared to Natsu..." She raised her arm and a magic circle appeared, going down it and turning it into a wooden claw, much like Elfman's partial transformation spells. "Nature Dragon, Swiping Claw!" She swiped the fire ball and it dissolved right in front of their eyes, leaving Akina unharmed by it and the boy stunned his attack didn't work. "It was nice seeing your stuff." She said with a smile, making a finger gun and pointing it at the boy, "Good luck on your second attempt!" With that, a stream of seeds flew out from a magic circle and hit the boy straight on, making him pass out alongside the others around him. "Now, I think it's time that I pass." She flicked her fingers and vines appeared all around her, grabbing all the available balls and tapping out each student that were incapacitated, soon her own sensors glowed blue, indicating that she had passed.

"Hm, it seems like a second student has passed." Mera said, then there was another shout, "What?! 207 students are now out! One student did all that? Seriously, what's with the kids these days! Terrifying..."

"Well, there goes my hope at a good fight. I guess I should know better by now." Akina said with a sigh as she walked towards the waiting room. "I wonder if the second round will be any more interesting."
