Chapter 39
The following day, class 1-A was hanging out in their homeroom, waiting to hear the results of the exams they took over the last few days. While some of the students were mingling and talking, there was a small group of students at the front of the classroom surrounded by gloom and despair.
"E-everyone... I'm looking forward to hearing all your stories of how fun camp was." Mina said through some tears.
"Maybe they'll end up letting you go! There might be a last minute twist or something." Midoriya said, making an attempt to lift his classmates spirits.
"Stop, Midoriya. You saying that out loud you're just jinxing them." Sero said, placing a hand on his classmate's shoulder.
"They said whoever failed the exams would have to skip traning camp and live in summer school hell. We didn't pass the practices so we're doomed. Don't you get it, Midoriya?!" Kaminari exclaimed, arching forwards and poking Midoriya in the eyes, causing the freckled boy to let out a shout of shock and slight pain. "Or did All Might knock all the brains outta you?"
"Calm down Kaminari." Akina said, waving her hand dismissively. "I'm probably not gonna go either, I know I totally bombed the written portion of the exam." She dropped her head and a small gloom surrounded her. "Even with all the help Momo gave me I was barely able to get through the test with the given time."
"Yeah, and I only passed the practical because of M*neta." Sero agreed.
"At least bring us back lots of camp souvenirs, please?" Kaminari asked, his voice almost being drowned out by the morning bell.
The smell of coffee made it to Akina's nose and she looked towards the door, watching as Aizawa slid the door open with force. "Once the bell rings you should be in your seats." He said, standing there as the class scrambled to get to their seats, only a minute later to silently watch as Aizawa walked up to the podium in the front of the room. "Unfortunately, there are a few of you who did not pass your final exams. So, when it comes to the training camp in the woods... Everyone is going!"
There was an air of shock around the students before those who were sure they had failed started to cheer. "It's a last minute twist!"
"We really get to go to camp?" Kirishima asked.
"Seriously?"
"The good news is that no one bombed the written exam, though some did come very close." Aizawa and Akina looked eyes for a second before he continued to speak, "Five failed the practical badly. Two teams, of course, and then Sero failed as well."
"Aw! Crap, I knew it!" Sero said, "M*neta made it to the gate, but I didn't do near enough to pass."
"Allow me to explain. For the practical battles, the teachers made sure to leave a way for the students to win. Otherwise, you never would of stood a chance."
I knew it. Akina said, puffing her cheeks up in annoyance, Next chance I get I'm challenging him to a rematch.
"We were interested in observing how you each worked together and approached the task at hand." Aizawa finished.
"But didn't you promise that the teachers wouldn't be holding back?" Ojiro asked.
"That was just to get you on edge. Besides the training camp will focus on your strength. Those who failed need those lessons the most. We were never going to separate you. That was just a logical deception we used."
"He tricked us all. I should have expected this." Iida said, trembling for a few seconds before he stood up, his hand raised straight towards the ceiling. "Mr. Aizawa, this is the second time you've lied to us. Aren't you afraid we'll loose faith in you?"
"That's a good point. I'll consider it."
No you won't. Akina thought.
"But I wasn't lying about everything. Failure is failure. We've prepared extra lessons for the five of you. Frankly they'll be far tougher than what you'd face at summer school."
The students who had been celebrating feel into a eerie silence, their excitement from before fading away. The rest of the homeroom was spent by Aizawa giving them their individual results on their tests, looking at her own test her heart sunk. When Aizawa said barely scraped by, he meant it. On all of her exams she had barely gotten above a C, her highest grade being a C+, well if she didn't count the A she got for the practical exam.
Once the day finished, the class hung around for a bit, excitement buzzing all around the room, each of them holding pamphlets that held in that they had received at the end of their homeroom class.
"This is gonna be great! I'm so glad we're all going together."
"Looks like we'll be at the training camp a full week." Iida said.
"I've gotta find a bigger suit case." Midoriya said.
"Yeah, I don't even have a bathing suit." Kaminari added.
"Now that I think about it I don't really have any travel stuff either." Akina said, placing a finger to her chin. When she had moved out of the apartment to the bigger house, she had used her magic to help move stuff— weaving branches together to create boxes or vines to hang up clothes. If she were going camping she'd need something better to pack some of her things in.
"Guys, since we're off tomorrow and we finally finished exams, I have the best idea!" Hagakure exclaimed. "Why doesn't Class 1-A go shopping together!"
"Hey, yeah! We've never hung out as a class before." Kaminari exclaimed.
"I don't think I have to work tomorrow, so I think I'll join up with you guys!" Akina said.
And just like that the class decided to meet up with each other the next morning at the mall.

"Oh, man, do I love this place." Mina said.
"It's really loud. And there are so many smells." Akina muttered under her breath, her nose twitching as the various scents of everyone's quirks made their way to her nose.
"Don't be like that, Aki! You'll get used to it!" Mina said, patting the freckled mage on her shoulder.
"Woah! Aren't those UA students?" Someone in the crowd asked, catching Akina's attention.
"1-A!"
"I saw 'em on TV!"
"The Sport Festival was so good!"
"I can't believe they still remember that." Uraraka said.
"Of course they do. It's one of the biggest events of the year, right? It only makes sense that they still remember it."
"Besides, how could they forget it after seeing a move like Hayashi's." Kirishima said.
"Yeah, that is true." Uraraka said, letting out a small laugh.
After a few minutes, everyone split up into different groups, some of them going off to buy new shoes, others going off to get some clothes fit for camping, and others going off to get duffel bags. Akina needed a variety of things so she decided to go on her own and started to wonder around the mall, looking at all of the stores.
As she walked, the sudden, strong smell of flowers and chemicals made their way to her nose, covering her mouth she looked at the store she was passing, seeing that it was a Body&Bathworks. Just from the smell alone her head was spinning, and she made a point to speed right by it and put distance between the flowery scented hell and herself. Though as she walked, the smell lingered in her nostrils, overpowering most of the other smells around her.
As she walked past more of the stores, she rubbed at her nose in hopes to get the smell away. Looking ahead, she paused in her steps, staring forwards, her eyes widening. Only a few feet in front of her was a man with long black hair and iron studs for eyebrows. She rubbed at her eyes and when she was able to see again he was gone, and with the scent of flower soap still in her nostrils, trying to smell for traces of the man was a lost cause.
Was it... a hallucination?

"Hey, are you okay?" Akina asked, running out of the mall and up to Midoriya and the rest of her classmates. She had heard what had happened a few minutes before from the police and had been escorted to the front gates, where the rest of her classmates were waiting.
Apparently Shigaraki had encountered Midoriya and had a small 'chat' with the boy before leaving without a trace. Once everyone had gathered together, they were allowed to leave— Midoriya and Uraraka staying behind to get questioned by the police.
Akina's hand tightened around the straps of the new duffel bag she had bought before the evacuation. Could what she saw of been real? And was there any possible connection between that and Shigaraki?
