Chapter 38
Just as she finished asking that question, there was the sound of electricity and a lighting bolt reached down from the sky and onto the ground— ultimately a flashier entrance than All Mights. Out of the lighting came a familiar lightning-scarred man appearing from the electricity. "You'll be fighting against me. Hope you're ready, dirt-brain."
————
Akina's eyes widened before she grinned, her sharp canines glistening in the sunlight, "Well, I was hoping to fight against the teachers but I guess fighting against you is even better."
"Are you going to be okay, Hayashi? You're fighting alone." Yaoyorozu asked.
"Am I going to be okay? I'm going to be better than okay! I haven't fought Laxus in so long! Plus if I'm fighting him alone the both of us can go all out!" She turned and looked at Mr. Nezu, "I'm going to apologize in advance, just in case!"
"In case of what?" Kaminari asked, his voice shaking ever so slightly.
"Just in case." Akina said.
"Thank you for the forethought, Ms. Hayashi. To complete the exam you'll have thirty minutes. In order to win, your objective is to put these handcuffs on your teacher. Or you can win if one of you manages to escape from the combat stage." Nezu announced, continuing on.
"So we've wither got to capture the teacher or run away. It's basically like the combat training." Kaminari said.
"Yeah, but it it really okay to just jet?" Mina asked.
"Yup." Nezu said, giving her a thumbs up.
"It's going to be much different than the combat training ya'll went through earlier. After all, you're up against people way better than you!" Present Mic said.
"Better? Really? Wait, aren't you just the announcer?" Jiro asked.
"Hey, watch your mouth, girl— have some respect!"
"This time, your exam will be very similar to a real battle. As straight as it is, please think of us as villains."
"That won't be too hard for me. After all, you did practically ruin the Fantasia parade a few years ago." Akina said looking at Laxus and cracking her knuckles.
"Assumin' you come across your enemy, if you think you can win against them, then fight. However..." Snipe started.
"In instances where you're outmatches, it would be smarter to run away and find help. Todoroki, Iida, Midoriya, and Hayashi, I'm sure the four of you understand."
"So we fight to win, or run to win." Midoriya muttered.
"That's right! It's a test of your decision-making skills. But with these rules you're probably thinking your only real choice is to flee. That's why the support course made these super clever accessories for us." He reached towards his waist and pulled out a ringlet of steel.
"Behold! Ultra-compressed weights!" Present Mic exclaimed.
Akina looked and watched as all the teachers— including Laxus, locked the ringlets around each of their limbs.
"These babies will add at least half our body weight to our physiques. It's not much, but they will eat up our stamina and make it harder for us to move around." All Might stood up from where he was securing them from his legs and stumbled ever so slightly, "Oh shoot... These are heavier than I thought."
So, it's not like Laxus will be fighting me at full power. That's lame. Akina thought. I wonder if Nezu would allow me to fight him without those braces on... probably not.
"You think we need a handicap to win against you? Well think again." Bakugo said, causing All Might to laugh.
"This'll be fun." The pro hero said, a menacing look appearing on his face that made Akina only want to fight him more.
Aizawa cleared his throat to get the attention on him, "Let's begin. The teams will take the practical exam in the order you were called. We have a stage prepared for you. Sato, Kirishima. You're up. Those waiting their turn to fight can either watch the exams or try to strategize together as a team. It's your choice. Thats all." With that, Aizawa along with the rest of the teachers walked into the building they were standing in front of, and the class started to separate into their teams.
It's not like I have anyone to strategize with, so I might as well head inside and watch the first match. Akina thought, following the teachers into the building and walking to where the Observation room was.

The first match ended rather quickly, with Kirishima and Sato using up all their stamina in order to get past Cementoss' walls, eventually they were surrounded in cement and revealed to of passed out after the attack.
"No way. It was that one sided?" Uraraka asked.
"Their quirks were too ineffective against his." Midoriya said.
"Well, duh. He's way more experienced than the both of them, not to mention they decided to go for him head on. That might work for some people, but for you guys, no way." Akina said, "This exam is going to be fun." She clapped her hands together and looked at the monitor with her eyes shining, completely unaware of Uraraka and Midoriya looking at her in slight shock.
Did she just say this was going to be fun? They thought at the same time.
Eventually, all of the matches had passed by, and it was time for the last match, Akina against Laxus. As she walked out of the observation room, she paused at the door and looked over her shoulder at her classmates, "Make sure you watch closely, because this is going to be the most intense battle you've all seen in your lives."

When Akina got to her stage, she noticed she had been placed in what looked to be a mountain setting. In front of Akina there was a giant mountain with scarce trees and uneven ground. She assumed on the other side of it was the gate— not like Akina was planning on running from Laxus. If she did that she'd never hear the end of it— plus she still wanted to get back at him for turning her to stone during the Miss Fairy Tail contest a few years back.
"Team Hayashi, practical exam, start!" The announcer said, and Akina was off, keeping her senses open for any sign of Laxus. Her nose twitched as the scent of electricity quickly came upon her and she just barely managed to dodge a bolt of lightning as it headed straight for her. There was a loud crash and when Akina looked to see where the bolt had landed, Laxus was standing in it's place.
"This fight has been a long time coming." Laxus said, his hands sparking.
"You're not going to win this time." Akina said, giving him a wide grin. Without giving any warning, slammed her foot down to the ground and branches shot out of the dirt, wrapping around Laxus and lifting him high into the air, only to have Laxus burn the branches by surrounding himself in electricity.
"Lightning Dragon Iron fist!" Laxus chanted, lighting surrounding his fist as he sped straight towards Akina, landing a solid hit in her gut. She felt electricity flow through her for a split second before she was sent flying back into a rock, breaking it into pieces upon contact.
Taking a second to recover Akina jumped up and lunged forwards, "Nature Dragon: Swiping Claw!" She casted, a magic circle appearing at her fingertips before making it's way down to her wrists. Wood surrounded her hands and branched out to create sharp claws. She swiped both her hands in a downwards motion and slices of green light sped straight towards Laxus, who managed to avoid the attacks— his jacket on the other hand wasn't so lucky and got ripped to shreds.
"Hey, I just got that jacket. I actually kind of liked it." Laxus grunted as he watched the fabric fall to the ground.
"If you liked it so much then why didn't you actually wear it instead of draping it over your shoulders."
"It's a little thing called style. I doubt you'd know of it."
Akina gritted her teeth and summoned some vines to wrap themselves around Laxus, not giving him a chance before she used them to fling him into the nearest rock, shattering it to pieces as well as creating an imprint of his body in the earth where he made contact. Before he even had a chance to move, she aimed her hands upwards and a magic circle appeared at her fingertip, "Nature Dragon: Bursting Blossom!" Flower pellets flew from the magic circle and arched in the air before falling straight down towards Laxus.
The dragon slayer reached his hand up towards the attack and sent out a small shockwave of lighting, making the attack blow up before they even got close to him. "Your puny attacks could never harm an S class wizard like me." He scoffed.
"I'm an S-class wizard too, you ass!" Akina shouted before lunging forwards and reaching to punch him in the gut.
The fight continued with spells flying and the two wizards sending each other into nearby rocks and mountains. In the Observation room, Class 1-A was watching the fight with looks of awe and absolute horror.
"Is Aki going to be okay?" Mina asked, looking at the screen with furrowed brows.
"They've nearly destroyed half of stage so far." Jiro said.
"Shouldn't you stop them, Mr. Aizawa?" Tsuyu asked, looking at their homeroom teacher who had joined them to watch the matches after his. "At this rate they'll really hurt each other. Ribbit."
"I'm sure they'll both be fine." Aizawa said simply. "Besides, we have recovery girl on Standby."
What a lack of reaction! The class all thought in shock.
Back at the battlefield, Akina had just been sent flying back by a punch to her gut. She had managed to catch herself before she collided with another rock but it still took a moment for her to catch her breath. She wiped her face and two magic circles appeared at her feet and she looked up, her sharpened canines glinting in the light. "Nature Dragon Earthquake."
Suddenly, the ground started to shake and cracks stretched outwards from her feet, splitting the mountain and rocky terrain into multiple pieces. The whole stage had been caught up in her spell and was moving and shifting around, pillars of earth both rising and falling.
Now that the terrain was unsteady, Akina knew that Laxus wasn't going to be able to move around as easily as she would. Akina grew up on forested mountain territory and practiced among the harshest and most unsteady terrains, maneuvering around this area was a piece of cake. She jumped from pillar to pillar, moving through the terrain with ease.
She caught sight of Laxus standing below her with his arms crossed and eyes closed. Moving fast, she got onto a pillar behind him before jumping down, a magic circle appearing at her heel. "Nature Dragon, Groundbreaking kick!" She casted, watching as Laxus looked up at made eye contact with her moments before her heel made contact with his shoulder.
There was a small moment where nothing happened, Akina was suspended in midair and Laxus was standing, staring at her. Then there was a crack. Below Laxus a crator had appeared under Laxus' feet, spikes rising up from the ground and trapping Laxus within the Earth. Before Laxus had even had the chance to move she hooked the cuffs around one of his arms and heard a click as they locked around him.
"Team Hayashi has passed the exam!"
"You totally went easy on me!" Akina fumed, "There's no way I brought you down that easily!"
Laxus grinned, "Well, the rat man told me to leave at least one way for you to pass the exam. Besides, if I hadn't you'd never would of had a chance."
Akina's cheeks puffed up in annoyance "You ass!"
Back in the exam room Class 1-A was staring up at the monitor, all of them in awe about the strength that both Laxus and Akina showed during their fight.
"They destroyed the entire Stage." Jiro said with pure shock.
Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida glanced at each other with knowing looks as the rest of the class stared in awe at the two shown on the monitor.
