Chapter 37
"Where are you going?" Laxus asked from his spot on the couch.
"To a classmate's house. I need to study for my finals." Akina answered securing her book bag over her shoulder.
"Study? Hah, why're you focused on some stupid thing like that? You're hired security there. Those weaklings need you to keep them safe, so it's not like you're at risk of being thrown out of that stupid class or whatever."
"Yeah, but the students don't know that." Akina said with a small sigh. "And if the teachers were looser on me than the other students they'd start getting suspicious. The whole point of my job is being undercover."
"You should know this, Laxus." Choco said, floating into the room. "Her job isn't anything like yours."
"Damn right it's not. I don't have to sit through those lame classes."
Akina looked at him with an annoyed expression on her face. "Oh shut up. I'm heading out."
"Bye Akina! Have fun studying!" Choco exclaimed, waving her paw as the ginger walked out of the house.
Since she was walking it took her a bit longer to get to Momo's house, and by the time she arrived, everyone else was already waiting at the front gate, looking at Momo's property all with looks of pure awe at the sheer size of her property.
"I knew her family had cash, but I didn't know she was this rich!" Kaminari exclaimed. He stepped forwards and ran the doorbell, Momo's voice immediately coming from the intercom.
"I've been waiting for you everyone! Please, come in!" As the intercom turned off, the gates started to swing open, allowing the group to step onto the property and walk towards Momo's house— which now seeing it looked more like a mansion than anything.
When they got to the front door, it opened for them as well and a man dressed in a suit bowed to them, "Please, follow me to the great hall, friends of Miss Yaoyorozu."
"I could not feel anymore out of place right now." Ojiro said as he looked around the room.
There was a rattling from the doorway and Akina looked over to see Yaoyorozu walking into the great hall pushing a cart of tea cups and tea, as well as little tea cakes for them to eat while studying. Looking at her ponytailed classmate, Akina could just tell by one glance that she was more than excited for this study session.
"I'm so glad you all could make it!" She exclaimed.
"Thanks for opening a study session for us!" Akina replied, "I'm sure without this I would of been totally screwed!"
"I'm so glad I can be of help! Well then, shall we begin?" Momo asked.
For the next few hours, they went over the material that had been covered in class. Looking over notes, filling out worksheets, participating in some review games, and quizzing each other on material. By the end of the day Akina felt like her brain had been melted then reconstructed more than once. And after the second study session on Sunday, Akina felt ready for the written portion of the exam.
***
Three days of the written portion of the exam passed by quickly, and soon they had all finished their last test.
"Alright, put you pencils down. The last person in each row bring the answer sheets to me." Aizawa said, raising his hand in the air to tell them to stop writing.
Letting out a sigh Akina stood up from where she was seated and took the tests from her classmates before handing the starch to Aizawa and moving back to her seat.
"Thanks so much for all your help, Yaomomo!" Mina exclaimed.
"I didn't leave anything blank at least!" Kaminari said.
"I actually knew the answers to some of the questions!" Akina said.
"Once you're all ready, change into your her costumes and meet at the Central Plaza, where you'll be taking your practical exam."
"Yes sir." The class answered.
It didn't take long for all of them to change into their costumes and ride the bus— which Akina was practically a corpse in— to the Central Plaza, where their teachers were all already waiting for them.
"Now then... let's begin the last test." Aizawa said once everyone was gathered. "Remember, it's possible to fail this final. If you wanna go to camp, then don't make any stupid mistakes."
"Uh. Why are all the teachers here?" Jiro asked.
"I expect many of you have gathered information and believe you have some idea of you'll be faced with today."
"We're fighting those big ol' metal robots!" Kaminari shouted with excitement.
"Fireworks, s'mores, here we come!" Mina exclaimed.
Akina looked from her classmates back to Aizawa, who's scarf had started to shift and move before Nezu poked his head out, a smile on his face.
"Actually, this years tests... will be completely different for various reasons."
"You're changing things?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"The tests now have a new focus. There will be hero work, of course. But also teamwork and combat between actual people. So what does that mean for you? You student will be working together in pairs and your opponents will be one of our esteemed U.A teachers! Isn't that fabulous?!"
At that announcement Akina perked up, "Against the teachers?" She squeaked out with pure excitement while all her classmates gasped in horror.
"Only you would be excited about this." Jiro muttered from beside Akina.
"Additionally, your partners and your opponents have already been chosen. They were determined at my discretion based on various facets including fighting style, grades, and interpersonal relationships. First, Yaoyorozu and Todoroki are a team." Aizawa grinned, grabbing his scarf in his fists, "Against me. Then we have Midoriya paired with Bakugo. And their opponent is..."
Akina heard the sound of someone falling through the air and looked up, seeing the familiar figure of All Might rushing towards the ground. "I am here to fight!"
"We're up against All Might?" Midoriya and Bakugo asked, both of them looking slightly intimidated— which was weird to see Bakugo intimidated.
"Aw phooey!i really wanted to fight against All Might. How come those two get all the fun." Akina muttered, her cheeks puffed up in annoyance.
"You... want to fight All Might?" Mina asked in pure horror.
After All Might's grand entrance, Aizawa gave the rundown of all the teams and their opponents.
Sato and Kirishima vs. Cementoss
Tsuyu and Tokoyami vs. Ectoplasm
Ojiro and Iida vs. Power Loader
Yoyorozu and Todoroki vs. Aizawa
Aoyama and Uraraka vs. Thirteen
Mina and Kaminari vs. Nezu
Jiro and Koda vs. Present Mic
Shoji and Hagakure vs. Snipe
Sero and M*neta vs. Midnight
Bakugo and Midoriya vs. All Might.
"Those are the pairings." Aizawa said.
Akina tilted her head and raised her hand "Hey, Mr. Aizawa, I didn't hear my name? Did I miss it or something?"
"That's because your final exam will be slightly different. You're going to be fighting alone."
"Alone? No way, isn't that unfair?" Jiro asked, looking from Aizawa to Akina, who instead of looking scared at the idea, she actually looked even more excited.
"Alright, then. Who will I be fighting against?"
Just as she finished asking that question, there was the sound of electricity and a lighting bolt reached down from the sky and onto the ground— ultimately a flashier entrance than All Mights. Out of the lighting came a familiar lightning-scarred man appearing from the electricity. "You'll be fighting against me. Hope you're ready, dirt-brain."
