Chapter 29
Everything was on fire, which typically, wouldn't be much out of the ordinary for Akina but Natsu wasn't here so this was kind of a cause for concern.
It all happened so suddenly. Creatures similar to the one she had see when she first arrived. One of the creatures had started spewing fire and the trees and buildings nearby were set ablaze. Around her civilians screamed and ran away, and she watched as Ryukyu and Nejire worked to safely escort civilians out of the building they had just been in. Manuel on the other hand was using his quirk to put out nearby flames.
Iida was nowhere to be seen. The moment chaos broke he had disappeared, and Akina had a sinking feeling that he was off looking for revenge. Biting her inner cheek, she tried to think of anything she could do, at the moment her healing magic would be able to help a lot of the injured civilians, but she also wanted to go find Iida. Suddenly an idea came to mind and she looked around, seeing a safe spot just off the road. Immediately she moved towards it.
Standing in front of the spot she stretched her arms towards it and two magic circles appeared at her palms, vines poking up and growing out of the ground and creating what almost looked like a den of vines. Moss covered the ground to create a soft place for people to lay. Once she was done she turned to the rescue heroes who were currently brining those who had been injured out from the chaos.
"Anyone who is injured please come over here!" She called out, getting their attention.
Soon, people were crowding the den, some people with minor injuries and other with more severe ones. She took a deep breath and magic circles appeared as her hands once more.
"Nature Dragon: Healing Rose defense!" She casted, and watched as roses sprouted from under those who had been injured and a soft green glow appearing around them as their wound slowly healed. From behind her, she heard some heroes gasp in awe.
"Once you're healed, please move away as fast as you can to get yourselves out of danger." She said to the civilians, who were already looking good as new, she then turned her head to look at the heroes "And please place anyone who's bee injured onto a Rose bed so they can heal from their injuries."
As the night continued, Akina helped heal those who had been affected, even though she wanted to join in on the fight with the monsters. While she did have a temporary hero license she thought it would be best for her to not cause any unneeded destruction, at least any more destruction that had already happened.
"Hayash- Dryad, you're here too?" A voice asked, and Akina turned her head to see Todoroki walking up to her.
"Shoto, it's a coincidence seeing you here. You're interning under Endeavor, correct?"
Todoroki nodded, then looked up at the vine infirmary, then at the civilians getting healed by both the rose bed and support heroes who had healing-type quirks. "Did you do all this?"
"Well, yeah. We needed a spot to heal those who had been injured after all."
Suddenly there was a small vibration against Akina's side and she slipped her hand into a small pocket that had been sewn into her costume to see a notification on her phone- a message from the class's group chat. She normally had it on mute due to to Kaminari and Mina's constant meme sending, but she had gotten interested in everyone else's internship. "It's from Midoriya."
"I got a message too, it looks like coordinates. Somewhere nearby. Midoriya isn't one to send messages like this."
"Thinking about it, I haven't seen Iida in a while... I have a feeling the two of them are together."
Todoroki nodded, "Let's go find them."
"Yeah, sounds good." She turned and looked towards Nejire and called out to her. "Hey, Nejire-Chan, I'm headed off to save a friend, you should probably send a few Pro heroes in bit!"
Nejire looked up from where she was helping a young boy towards the makeshift infirmary, "You should tell Ryukyu first!"
"Nah, I'm good!" With that her and Todoroki were off, running along flames and chaos of the monsters and heroes fighting. As they got close to where the coordinates were leading them, the two of them turning and running straight into an alleyway to see some villain that reeked of blood and angst standing over Iida, a sword in his hands that looked ready to stab the speedy teen right then and there.
Before he could move, Todoroki and Akina kept into action. Akina used some vines to grab onto the blade and pull it away from Iida while Todoroki sent a spiral of flames towards the villain, making him dodge and let go of the sword that Akina's vines were holding.
"More people to get in my way." The man said, landing on the ground and looking towards Akina and Todoroki. "Today's been full of distractions."
"Midorya, you need to give more details in times like this." Todoroki said, lifting his phone that showed the message that had been sent. "We were almost too late to stop this guy."
"Hayashi... Todoroki, you too?" Iida asked.
"How'd you two get here?" Midoriya asked. "Hold on, you're using your left side?"
"How'd we get here? Good question. It took a second for Hayashi and I to figure out your message, next time try to send more than just your specific location."
"Come on, Half and half, it's not like he could of said 'hey, being attacked by a villain rn. Here's my location.' It looks like he's in quite the predicament." Akina said. "Though, it helps that you're not one to send cryptic messages like that— that's more electric boy's thing."
"Everything's okay, the pro's will be here any minute." Todoroki said as he ran forwards, flames erupting from his left hand.
As he did so Akina moved towards the pro hero leaning against the wall, he seemed to be the most injured. "I'll heal some of your major injuries." She reached forwards and her hands glowed a soft green.
"You kids... you shouldn't of come." The man said.
"Shouldn't of come? Like hell I'd miss out on a chance to fight a strong villain! Actually, I was kind of hoping to run into the Hero Killer!" She straightened up and gave the hero a smile, "I've been looking for a fight." She turned and walked away, joining Todoroki in confronting the villain.
"Todoroki! Hayashi! You can't let that guy get your blood. I-I think he controls his enemy's actions by swallowing it. That's how he got us!" Midoriya called out from his place on the ground.
"So he drinks blood and then paralyzes people? Sounds interesting." Akina said.
"That explains the blades." Todoroki said. "All we've gotta do is keep out distance."
Akina grinned, "That's easy." She grinned and vines suddenly sprouted from the ground, though before they could wrap around the villain he jumped up into the air and narrowly avoided her attempt at a trap. As he jumped he threw something and Akina felt a stinging sensation on her neck, and from the iron scent coming up from it, she knew she had been cut. Damn, he's fast. She thought.
"Ya have good friends, Ingenium. Or you did!" He jumped forwards and aimed another attack at Todoroki, a second sword in his hand.
Before he could attack, Akina summoned some vines and tied him up mid-air, stopping him mid-swing. The vine shifted as the villain tried to escape their grasp. Though there was a sudden pain in her back and she looked over her shoulder to see a small dagger that had implanted itself in her shoulder blade. "So he threw the dagger as he attacked. Smart." Akina said, though with the surprise attack, Akina's hold on the vines loosened for just enough time for Stain to escape.
"Why are you doing this? His fight is with me!" Iida called out, his voice strained. "I inherited my brother's name. I'm the one who should stop him. The Hero killer is mine!"
"Ah bullshit." Akina said as she grabbed the dagger and removed it from her shoulder blade, feeling blood drip down her back. "You're in a revenge kick, and just because you started this doesn't mean you have to be the one to end it. A fight isn't a true fight if you're going alone. So wipe that pained look on your face and fight with pride once you're able to move again. Be a true hero, Ingenium." She watched as Todoroki sent Stain jumping back with spikes of ice creating some distance between them, to add some extra defense, Akina added a wall of vines.
"Careful, Todoroki, Hayashi!" Midoriya shouted out, before Akina heard a quiet gasp of surprise, though she couldn't focus on him at the moment since Stain had managed to cut through both the vines and the ice.
"Ya blocked your own field of vision against an opponent who's faster than you. Rookie mistake."
"Rookie?" Akina asked, disappearing from where she was standing from beside Todoroki and suddenly reappearing right behind Stain, "Just because I'm holding back a bit doesn't make me a rookie." She spun and the air and aimed a solid kick at his side, sending him into the the alleyway wall. Though there was a new presence and once she landed Akina looked besides her to see Midoriya, some kind of green lightning surrounding his body, and by the loom on his face it seemed like they had attacked Stain at the same time.
"I'm not sure why, but I'm able to move now." Midorya said, clinching his fists as he watched Stain get up.
"So, he has some kind of time limit." Todoroki said.
"No. That kid should of been the last one to be freed. I still can't move a muscle." The pro hero said.
So it's some other kind of limit... Akina thought as she watched Todoroki send another stream of ice Stain's way.
"He swallow a person's blood to freeze them, but I was the one freed first. I've got three different guesses why. His quirk could be less effective the more people he uses it on. The amount invested could play into how long it works, or there could be a difference based on a person's blood type."
Blood type? Akina thought, tilting her head slightly.
"If it's the last one, my blood type is B." the pro hero said.
"I'm type A."
"So you figured it out." Stain said. "Bravo, very impressive."
"It doesn't really help us that much to know how his quirk works, though." Midoriya said.
"I thought we could hurry and carry those two out if here. But it's no good." Todoroki said. "He's too fast, he can dodge my ice and flames as well as Hayashi's vines. I'd have to leave myself unguarded."
"Not necessarily." Akina said. "You two can go on ahead and take those two along. I don't mind staying back to fight."
"We're not leaving you alone against this villain." Todoroki said, "You might be strong Hayashi, but you can't fight him alone. Out best option is to hold until the Pros arrive and avoid close combat."
"No, you know you two have already lost way too much blood." Midoriya said. "I'll distract him while you two support me from behind. Sound like a plan?" Once again, the green lightning appeared and jumped around Midoriya's body.
"You want us to take a pretty big risk. Okay. We can protect them!"
"As much as I like going all in with combat, I can't really use most of my moves here without causing damage to the buildings around us or accidentally getting one of you guys hurt. So yeah, I'll support you." That's what she said, but the possibility of destroying the building around her wasn't really much of a concern at the moment. There was another reason she was holding back.
"Three against one, huh? This fight won't be easy."
Actually if I were able to fight you alone I'd totally beat your ass. Akina thought. You're only still fighting because I'm holding back.
She watched as Midoriya jumped forwards. He jumped around Stain, managing to move fast and keep distance between him and Stains blades. While he did that, Akina and Todoroki sent attacks his way, Ice and flames to limit where he could go and vines that kept him distracted and on the tip of his toes to prevent getting tangled up in them.
Even with all the distractions, Stain managed to cut Midoriya's leg and stopped him from jumping around, she watched as he licked the blood dropping off the blade and as Midoriya slumped, now paralyzed.
"You have to run." Iida said from behind them. "I can't watch this."
