Chapter 20
"The first match of the semi-finals!" Present Mic shouted as Akina walked onto the field. "From the hero course Todoroki Shoto! Versus his classmate, Hayashi Akina!"
Akina's grin widened as excitement welled up inside of her. This was going to be a blast.
"She has a nature quirk, right?" Someone asked from the stands. "If that Todoroki kid uses his flames she's no match for him." A few heroes around them said words of agreement.
Looks like someone's underestimating me. Akina mused in her head.
"Start!" Present Mic announced.
Immediately Ice shot up from the ground and Akina jumped in the air, easily dodging the attack. Not wasting any time, I see. She thought as she landed and started running towards him. Another rush of ice headed straight towards her and she jumped in the air once again. It went like that a few more times, until the entire field was covered in ice.
"There's nowhere for Hayashi to land! What's she going to do?" Present Mic shouted.
Akina looked below her and grinned. She stretched out her leg and took a deep breath. "Nature Dragon: Groundbreaking Kick!" She casted and magic circle appeared at her heel. She spun around a few times before she made contact with the ground. The spell shattered the ice and the moment it made contact with the ground spikes of earth rose up.
"I hope you like a taste of your own medicine!" Akina exclaimed as the rocks sped towards Todoroki. The half and half teen watched the spikes with wide eyes and jumped to the side, just barely dodging the attack.
"Woah, woah, woah! What kinda attack what that?! It totally tore up the stage!" Present Mic announced over the roaring crowd.
"I hate to cause property damage but I want to win this thing." Akina said as she walked along the spikes. "But I don't want to win this too fast. Might as well give a show during the Semi-finals, right, Todo?"
Todoroki looked at her and gritted his teeth. "You're not beating me." He said as he stomped his foot and sent another wave of ice towards Akina. Though this one seemed different, it looked more like the attack he had used on Kaminari during the first match.
"Nature Dragon: Jaw!" Akina casted and a magic circle appeared under her and two mounds of rocks bursted up and closed around her. She had made it just before the ice washed over her, and she doubted not many people from the stands saw her do it.
In the pitch darkness of the defense, Akina felt a faint chill wash over her as the ice made it's way to her. Though even under the ice Akina was able to hear Present Mic.
"It looks like Hayashi has been trapped in an avalanche of ice! Is this the end of the match?" He asked.
Like hell it is. Akina thought as she raised her hand up towards the sky. "Nature Dragon: Sundrop." She casted.
"Is it just me or is it getting hot in here?" Present Mic asked, "Wait, what's happening with the sun? It looks like it's... dripping?"
Akina heard loud crashes from above her, and soon water was dripping through the jaws of earth. She balled her raised hand into a fist and grinned. "Canon" Around her the jaws shifted to an open position and the earth under her slowly moved downwards before springing back up and launching her in the air.
"Hold onto your hats everyone! Looks like this match isn't over yet!" Present Mic shouted. "Akina's been shot out of that earth defense! When did she make that?"
Akina grinned as she looked down at Todoroki, seeing the shocked look on his face. Man, I wish I could take a picture. His face is priceless. Akina thought as she landed. "Well, you wanna make the first move or shall I?" Akina asked.
Todoroki gritted his teeth and stomped his foot on the ground. More ice rushing towards Akina.
"So predictable." Akina muttered as she jumped to the side. "Can't you like, use your fire or something?"
"I refuse to use my father's flames anymore." Todoroki said.
"So green beans a special case, then! I see how it is. Well, if this is it I might as well end the battle now."
"Don't get too cocky." Todoroki said.
Akina looked up at him and disappeared in a blur of motion, reappearing only inches away from Todoroki's face. "You need to learn that your power is what you make of it. Not the past it has, Todoroki." She said before she punched him right in the gut and sending him flying off the stage.
"Todoroki is out of bounds! Hayashi moves onto the finals!" Midnight announced as the crowd roared.
Akina grinned and walked towards Todoroki, seeing him holding his gut in pain. "You're holding yourself back." She said softly as she placed her hand over his gut, a soft green glow emitting from her hands. "You need to learn that the power you have is yours, not your fathers." With that she straightened up and walked off the field, leaving Todoroki staring at her with wide eyes as she left.
The moment Akina got back to the seating area she was showered in compliments- and a round of questions from Midoriya.
"What the hell kind of move was that spiky one!?" Mina asked. "You hit the ground it it was like Bam!"
"It was just something simple I learned from my foster dad." Akina said nervously. "My, uh, quirk is mostly close combat so he taught me ways to make it for... long range combat." It wasn't completely a lie, but not a lot of it was true.
"Thats badass." Jiro muttered.
"Anyways, it looks like Tokoyami and Bakugo's match is on! Let's watch it!" Akina said as she clapped her hands together and rushed to her seat. This match would determine who she would be fighting in the finals.
The moment the match started Tokoyami was put on the defensive. He used dark shadow to shield him from Bakugo's explosions. After a while it was obvious Dark Shadow had started pulling away, almost like it was trying to get away from the light of Bakugo's explosions. Dark Shadow tried to grab Bakugo a few times but failed each time. The match ended when Bakugo set off a bright explosion. The moment the smoke cleared Bakugo was revealed holding Tokoyami down keeping a bright explosion in his hand to subdue dark shadow. Tokoyami ended up surrendering.
"That means our final fight will be between Hayashi and Bakugo!" Present Mic announced over the cheering crowd.
Akina grinned, her sharpened canines glinting in the bright sunlight. "Alright, Hedgehog. Let's see who's stronger."
