When we arrived back at the hotel, Jonathan and Giselle let Giovani know they would be hanging out at the bar in the lobby. Giovani was going to get me back to my suite, and join them for a night of more drinking since I was the only one of us that hadn't been able to handle it. As we walked to the elevator, I felt everything around me spinning from side to side. I could barely stand up straight on my own, and would have fallen to the ground if it hadn't been for the fact that Giovani had an arm around my waist, holding me upright.
He struggled to get me down the hall to my room, since I was leaning all my weight on him and not doing a lot to cooperate. The denim fabric of his jacket was chafing the exposed skin of my arms, but that didn't matter to me when all I needed was to lay down and sleep. When we got to my door, I heard Giovani curse under his breath, "Puta madre," He said angrily, patting his jacket pockets as though he were looking for something, "I forgot to ask your sister for the room key. Do you have yours Kam?" His grip around my waist had loosened and I was leaning against the wall of the hallway to prevent myself from falling.
I shook my head, letting out an involuntary laugh. It was the effects of the alcohol that made everything seem funny to me. "Giselle wouldn't give me a key because she was scared I'd lose it." I told him, matter-of-factly. He should have remembered by now that I couldn't be trusted with keys. It was my problem since we were children, I couldn't be given a key if that person wanted to use it again.
"Okay, plan b." He sighed.
"Oh, look at you." I teased, using my index finger to tap the tip of his nose jokingly. "Making plans and all that."
"You really need to sleep this off." He said, rolling his eyes at me playfully. Getting his cellphone out of his pocket, he explained, "I'm going to call your sister and tell her we're switching rooms for the night. You and her can sleep in our room, and I'll get her key when I meet them in the lobby in a few minutes."
I shrugged my shoulders, not really paying attention to anything he was saying. My head was spinning, and I could see his lips moving, but whatever he was saying wasn't fully registering in my brain. "Fine by me." I said to him. I already felt my eyelids drooping shut. It was becoming hard to keep my eyes open.
He brought his arm around my waist once again and I pushed myself away from the wall. Giovani led me down the hallway to the suite he and his brother were sharing. He took the room key out of his pocket and opened the door.
It was a suite exactly the same as ours, but when he took me to the bedroom, I could see their things all over the place. It almost looked as though their luggage had exploded in the room.
Giovani apologized for the mess. "Sorry about all this. Jona was trying to hard to impress Giselle, but he went a little overboard. He changed outfits nearly twenty times, and that's not an exaggeration."
I giggled. "He doesn't need to impress my sister. She absolutely loves him...oops. Don't tell Jona I said that."
"She emptied out a cup of frozen yogurt on his head and told him to go to hell the last time they saw each other." He pointed out in amusement. Giovani had found the situation more amusing than anyone else. My mother and I were horrified when she told us about it, but Giovani poked fun at Jona for months after it happened.
I shrugged my shoulders. "He insulted our team. And when you mess with Chivas, you mess with the fam, Americanista."
"You sound like the mafia." He joked.
Pushing a few things around the room with his foot, to clear the path, we finally got to his bed and he laid me down on it. My eyes shut immediately and I couldn't open them again, I was much too tired.
But I felt Giovani pull my shoes off, then I heard his footsteps as he hurried around the room, picking things up. When he finished cleaning up some of the mess, I said to him, still with my eyes closed, "Goodnight, Giovani."
I immediately felt myself drifting off to sleep.

My sleep didn't last long. It was almost two hours later that I tossed and turned in bed. The room was dark, and my head was pounding, but I felt wide awake. I looked to the side, where there was another bed. My sister wasn't back yet and it was nearly three in the morning.
Then I heard a noise that startled me. It was the front door to the suite. I quickly jumped out of bed and grabbed the nearest blunt object I could find. I knew it could be my sister, sneaking back after a night of partying with the Dos Santos brothers, but I was prepared in case someone was breaking in. I hid behind the door to the bedroom and waited in the dark.
After about a minute, I heard steps coming down the hall. The person stopped in the doorway and turned on the lights. Then I heard him say my name. "Kam?" He called, surprised that I wasn't in bed.
I let out a sigh of relief. It was Giovani.
Walking out from behind the door, I must have startled him because he jumped back in fear. "Dammit Kam," He breathed, looking at me with wide eyes. "What the hell were you doing behind the door?"
"I thought someone was trying to rob me." I replied with a shrug and handed him the lamp. He took it from my hands and put it back where it belonged. Eyeing him suspiciously, I asked, "What are you doing here? Are you here to take advantage of me because I'm drunk. Geez, Giovani, you're such a pervert."
He shook his head. "You're the pervert, with your fantasies about me taking advantage of you." After a short pause, he added, "I came because Jona and Giselle are getting it on in your suite, so obviously they didn't want me there. They kicked me out because they wanted some privacy, and I had nowhere else to go, so I came here."
"Hm." I said. "Well, okay, but don't think you're getting lucky tonight too." I warned him.
Giovani chuckled and walked right past me to get into the other bed. Letting himself fall onto the mattress, he informed me, "That's okay, Kam. I really like you, and I'll wait as long as I have to for you to accept me. Even if my little brother gets more action than me." He looked over at me from the corner of his eye.
I slowly walked towards my bed and laid back down.
Maybe it was time to give Giovani a chance.
