Prologue: The Beginning
In the ancient lands of Greece, on the outskirts of the Forest of Aema, there sat a village. The village of Zaesria was a small town filled with simple people. It was not known who they were descended from, or which city they originally broke away from, but it was apparent that they were a Greek town. Because, above all else, their lives revolved around the Greek Gods.
Despite their lack of wealth, the town was able to construct several shrines to the major gods to show their devotion. Zeus received the largest temple along with a stone statue to accent his strength and absolute power. Poseidon also stood tall and proud in a slightly smaller temple, for Zaesria was a coastal town that often dealt in sea trade. And, finally, the last main temple belonged to the Greek twins, Artemis and Apollo, for Zaesria only had two main sources of food, farming and hunting, and in order to keep a steady food supply, they constantly prayed to the Goddess of the Hunt and the God of the Sun.
Zaesria was not the luckiest of towns. They often experienced harsh storms, rough waters, famine, droughts, and many other disasters. But, the most devastating hardship was the intense heat Zaesria would endure in the summer. The sun would beat upon the ground with such force at some points that the people of the village would think Apollo himself had decided to strike them down.
But, despite the difficulties the people of Zaesria faced, they never lost hope in their gods. To question the motives of the gods was damned and seen as being as disgraceful as adultery. As for the misfortune, some would boast of their strength, saying that the tragedies they faced were simply to eradicate the weak. Others would preach that it was a sign from the gods (whether it signaled catastrophe or prosperity, none could decide). And, although many died from the intensity of the calamities they faced, it could be argued that the Zaesrian's unwavering faith in the gods is what allowed them to survive through the hardships.
However, curiosity can often hinder devotion in even the strongest of souls, especially when the desire to find the truth outweighs the blind acceptance many in Zaesria had come to know.
