Chapter 8
When she got home, she met her parents who also seemed to have just arrived.
"Where have you been?" Her Daddy immediately asked.
"I just took Aya to her dorm. She seems to be feeling bad."
"She should see a doctor," Her Mom interfered.
"I already told her earlier. She said she doesn't feel anything other than being tired."
"Then, she must rest. Her body might be shocked when you come back here," Her Mom added.
"I'll go get some rest." She went up to her room and sat on the bed. She was worried about Aya's condition. She also wondered if she was one of the survivors in the Villa.
But why doesn't the friend tell her anything? Does she really know it completely?
'What else should I know about Aya?'
She took out the cellphone again and looked at the article. She looked for when it was last posted. To her shock, two decades have passed since the fire happened.
"Two decades?"
'Aya, what do you really know? Who are you really?' She asked in her mind.
She was so curious that she thought of asking her parents. Maybe they know something about it. She was about to go out the door when she heard her father's voice. She stopped and listened to what he was saying. He seems to be talking to someone on his phone.
"Didn't I tell you guys to fix that?" Her father's words was so emphatic that she was especially intrigued to listen. Her father was stunned for a moment because he seemed to be listening to what the person on the other line was saying.
"Put that away. No one can know that. No one can know what happened at Villa del Francia or else, we will be exposed!" Eris was surprised by what she heard.
What does her father know about what happened in the Villa?
She even pressed her ear to the wall so that she could hear his conversation more clearly.
"None of you will speak. You can't say that I was the one who planned the burning of the Villa!" His voice was accented by his restraint.
Eris covered her mouth from what she found out. She does not believe that her own father is the one responsible for the fire in the area. Things gradually became clear to Eris.
From before she left until she came back. She finally connect all the things that were bothering her. She sat down and burst into tears. That's why those spirits are bothering her. That's why she dreams every night.
She slowly stood up and left the room. Her father even surprised at her and immediately hung up the call.
"D-Dad..." She was still crying.
"Eris, child. You didn't hear anything, did you?"
"Y-You are the one responsible for the fire in the Villa that caused people to die there? Did you kill them, Daddy?" She asked incredulously. She was weak from what she discovered.
"Let me explain..." He came even closer to her but she shook his hand when he tried to touch her.
"You're evil, Dad! I can't believe you can do that! I'm proud that you're my father, then I'd find out you're a killer!" She shouted at him.
"What's going on here?" asked her mother who came from the kitchen. She looked at the two in confusion. Instead of answering her, they ignored her.
"Daughter, I only did that for you, for you and your Mommy. I hope you understand me." He pleaded.
"Wrong, what you did was still wrong, Dad! You still killed many people!" Her tears flowed one after another in her eyes.
"Eris, that's enough. Don't talk to your Daddy like that," Her mother interfered.
"Mom, do you hear what you're saying? Daddy is a murderer, don't you know? He's the reason why the Villa del Francia burned down!" After she said that, her mother was silent.
"Mom, do you know anything here?" She asked in a weak voice. She prays that what she thinks is wrong.
Instead of answering, her mother just lowered down her head.
"Mommy!" Her voice grew louder.
"Yes, I know something about this! I know everything from the beginning, I know everything your Daddy does!" She was even more depressed by what she heard. She finally fell to the floor and was stunned.
"Daughter..." Her parents approached her but she quickly moved away from them.
"Get away from me! I don't have criminal parents!"
"How did you do those things?! Didn't you think about it first?!" She was pulling her hair because she didn't know what to do.
"Daughter, you don't understand..." Her mother continued.
"What don't I understand? I'm grown up and in my right mind! I'm getting out of here! I can't hang out with criminals!"
When she said that, her father's expression changed, "You're going to report us?" His aura darkened as he looked at her, which made her even more afraid. It seems that this is not her father anymore.
"No one will leave! No one will report!"
"Daddy, are you really losing your mind?"
"No one can find out about this or else, I will lose everything I worked for. No one can destroy all of that!" Her father quickly went to her room and when he came out he was carrying all her gadgets.
"Albert, what are you doing?" His wife looked at him in surprise. He hurriedly pulled Eris and threw her into her room before locking her up. The lady was confused so she quickly approached her husband.
"What are you doing? Eris is your daughter! Why are you locking her up?!"
"She can't leave the house! She can't report to anyone!" said its angry words.
"Mom, Dad, let me out of here! Please, have mercy on me!" Eris shouted inside as she cried and banged the door.
"Let your daughter out, Albert! Give me the key!" She tried to grab the key from her husband but he quickly dodged his hand.
"No way, Carmela!" He passed her and headed out of their house.
"Where are you going?"
She followed Albert but he ignored her and hurriedly got into his car before driving away. The lady started crying because of what was happening to them. She turned to Eris who was still crying inside her room.
"Eris, daughter? Forgive us and your Daddy."
"Leave me alone. Leave me alone, after all, this is what Daddy wants."
"Sweetie..."
"I said leave!" The woman just started crying because of her daughter's behavior. Carmela knows that her daughter will turn away from her but she will not let that happen. She remembered that her room had a duplicate key so she took it from her drawer and opened the padlock that Albert had placed earlier. When she opened it, she saw her daughter slumped over her bed, still crying.
"Eris..."
She slowly hugged Eris whose eyes were puffy.
"Mom, why did you do that? Did you join Dad in the murder? Did you kill them too?" Carmela shook her head at the same time as her tears began to fall.
"But why?" She was waiting for her mother's answer. She could see in her face that she was hurt by what was happening but she needed to know the reason for it.
"I love your Daddy very much. I don't want him to go to jail so I kept quiet and let him do everything he does," Carmela answered.
"All this time, you raised me in a wrong way. Shouldn't you be condoning him, Mommy, because no matter which perspective you look at it, what he did was wrong. He took life. Isn't he thinking first?"
"Why are you letting him do that, Mom? If you love him, you shouldn't have allowed Daddy to do that. You know where you stand, don't you?"
"I'm sorry, daughter. I'm sorry..." That was all she could say to her. She didn't say anything else. She was in her mother's arms and both were crying.
In the middle of their crying, they heard loud knocking from below. The two were very surprised because the guard didn't even call them. The two stopped crying and Carmela stood up to see who it was.
"Just stay here," said her mother but still followed her. They slowly go down the stairs. They even looked at the guard from the window but he was not there. That's why they were suddenly nervous.
When they got down, the lady slowly approached the door, "Who is that?" She asked but she didn't hear any answer outside. Out of curiosity, she opened it gently and a woman appeared before them.
"Aya?"
