Chapter 3

The next day, the two woke up early because they were going to prepare for their first activity in the community. As a newcomer to the area, Eris is still observant of her surroundings. She felt something weird around her but she chose to put it out of her mind. She didn't want to be stressed because they had a lot to do that day.

"Where are your parents?" Eris was curious because since yesterday she has not yet met Aya's parents.

"Ah, my Mom and Dad? They went to town. They'll be back at noon," the woman answered. She nodded at her answer.

"What are our plans now? I mean, I thought we should just have a focus group discussion since not all of them have the ability to read and write," suggested Eris.

"Actually, you're right. The questionnaires are ready, but let's eat first," said Aya.

They only cooked two instant noodles. Actually, they bring only instant foods so that they won't have any more problems with what they will cook.

After they ate, they gathered the people in the area and Aya started explaining about what they were going to do. They allotted thirty minutes for answering twenty questions. It even took an hour because they had to assist people one by one.

Their work did not end there. Eris and Aya even taught them basic knowledge. They did not have much difficulty because the people were cooperative.

"Did you enjoy yourself?" Aya asked happily when their activity was over.

"Yes!" Loud and happy shouts of the people.

"I hope you have learned something today. Thank you very much for your cooperation," She said with a smile.

If Eris and Aya have a wish, it is to give this community an adequate education. Many of them are willing to learn but the government can't even help them. They avoid them because they think that these people are wild and hurtful.

Eris sighed. They're putting things aside and people are slowly leaving because they are done with their work.

It was noon and the sun was shining. Her forehead was sweating and she wanted to rest.

"Hi sister Eris!" She looked at the one who called her. A boy with a big smile on his face.

"Hello! What's your name?" She equaled his height.

"Sky," answered the boy.

"Wow, your name is beautiful," praised Eris.

"Sister, why did you choose to come to our place?" Sky asked.

"It's because sister Aya and I decided to went here since you are her family, right? Besides, we don't have any time to find any place," answered Eris.

"Don't you know that this place is full of mystery?" Eris turned to the boy—her brow furrowed.

"What did you say?" The boy did not answer her. He just looked at her seriously.

"What do you mean?" She kept asking but he didn't answer.

"Sky?" She called his attention again.
Unexpectedly, the boy suddenly collapsed in front of her. She was startled and screamed because in her entire life, she had only now witnessed something like this.

It's like she's paralyzed—unable to move where she's standing. She gaped and her eyes widened.

"Sky!" shouted a woman and quickly ran to where the boy was. She is his mother. That stole the people's attention around and followed the woman.

The mother supports the child's head as it writhes on the ground.

"Eris!" Aya called her worriedly.

"I'm sorry, Eris. His epilepsy is attacking him. I'm sorry if you saw him like this," apologized the mother.

Eris' feelings gradually calmed down, "I'm sorry. I-I was just shocked," Eris said.

"Why don't you treat him?" asked Eris.

"There's no need. We'll just be trampled in the city," the mother said angrily.

"When did he have something like this?" She asked again.

"Since he was five years old. He inherited it from his deceased grandmother," answered the lady.

"Do you want us to bring the medicines he needs here?" She offered.

"No, don't bother about that. It's better for him to be like this. Also, we've gotten used to him being like this."

"Is that so?"

Instead of paying attention to her question, the mother said, "We'll go ahead." An older man picked up the boy. She thinks that is the boy's father.

People went back to what they were doing because such things are normal to them.

"Are you alright?" Aya asked. Eris nodded before taking a deep breath.

"Aya!" They both turned to the caller.
Fumiya was approaching them with an old woman and a man.

"Mom! Dad!" The girl immediately greeted her parents and hugged them both. The couple had just returned from town and it looked like Fumiya had followed them there yesterday.

After a while they also let go of each other and led them to Eris.

"She's the one with me in this project. She's Eris," Aya began.

"Good afternoon, Ma'am and Sir," Eris greeted politely.

"Good afternoon too, hija. Wait, are you alright? Why do you look pale?" Criticism of Aya's mother.

"Ah, because Mom, Sky was attacked by her illness earlier. Eris just felt strange," Aya answered.

"Ah, is that so? You should get used to it, hija. It's very difficult to find money, especially with our status here. So, whatever is available that we can get in town, we just get it," litany of lady.

She felt compassion for the inhabitants of that place. She wants to help but they refuse her offer.

'Why?' She asked in her mind.

Eris' brain was starting to get confused. She wanted to ask a question but she was nervous about their answer so she just kept quiet.

"You'll also know why, soon," said the husband meaningfully before they left in front of them, along with Fumiya. After leaving, she faced Aya.

"Do you have any idea about what they're saying?" She asked wryly.

"Something happened back then, Eris. And I don't think, you should know about it anymore," replied the other person seriously, which made her mind even more confused.

"What happened? What happened then?"

"Don't ask any more because you'll be in perished. There are things that should just remain a secret for the safety of others."

"What the—" She was cut off when Aya pulled her back to where they were staying.

She knew that Aya was avoiding her questions. It only adds to her thoughts. What Sky said was a mystery to her and she needed to know about that.

"Let's rest," Aya finally said before laying down on her bed.
