Chapter One-Sunflowers

Percy's POV

The aroma of the floral shop was something most people stopped to enjoy. Even the people that worked there took the time to smell the freshly cut roses.

I however favored the sunflowers that came in during Spring and Summer. Sunflowers remind me of a lot of things. The biggest is the the memory of my mother smiling bigger than she ever did just seeing me carry them into her hospital room. The memory sticks with me whenever I see even a single sunflower.

In fact I find myself standing in front of the first batch of the season. I've made it a habit to pick the best flower and put it in my room.

"There's one more batch in the back Percy if you'd like to look now." A lovely lady named Helena said as she tended to a some daisies.

"Thank you." I nodded my head at her in thanks and walked out the back door and into the green house. I walked among the shelves holding beautiful flowers. Some sunflowers and other flowers. But I just didn't see the one I liked the best.

Not feeling satisfied I looked harder. The petals weren't shaped to my liking. The leaves were bitten into. The color wasn't perfect. Than I saw it. I reached for the perfect sunflower of the season and brought it up to my face. Smiling I returned to the front of the store where Helena my coworker sat at the counter now. Her face lit up upon seeing the flower in my hand.

"You found the one?"

"Yes."

{*Later*}

I stared at the flower in the vase across the room by a portrait of my mother. It complemented my room perfectly making me feel content. I played with the pencil that I should be using to do my homework as I laid on my stomach on my bed. Science was the furthest thing from my mind as I nibbled my lip.

Maybe I should try that new cafe down the street. Or I could go to the library that got a new shipment of books that I could go through. Or even go play piano down at the local bar.

So many options and only very few hours left to procrastinate. With a sigh I closed my book shut and walked toward my closet. I grabbed a pair of jeans with holes in the knees, a simple t-shirt that was purple and my flip flops. Brushing my fingers through my dark brown hair I stared into my mirrored hazel-green eyes. I wasn't anything special. I wasn't unique. I was just normal in my opinion.

Grabbing my keys and phone I made my way out of the house. No one was home. My dad left to go on some trip with his girlfriend. He would be back by the end of the week.

As I twirled my keys and walked at the same time I considered my options again. It was down to playing the piano or going to the cafe. The library was going to close soon. It was about 6:32 at night so if I remembered correctly I closed in half an hour. That would mean the cafe would soon follow...

I shrugged and found my legs leading me to the local bar that lonely woman and sex deprived men found themselves. It wasn't an ideal place, no, but one I found myself visiting every so often to play for the owner.

A friend of my mothers who had been like a second father to me. In fact sometimes I'd catch myself slipping up and calling him dad. Much to my embarrassment.

As I walked up to the doors I noticed the looks right away. The people who didn't know who I was began to frown, a minor had made it inside.

I walked up to the counter and looked around before spotting him.

"George!" I smiled and waved over at the man I had mentioned earlier.

"Percy! What a pleasant surprise."
George walked over and enveloped me in a hug. "How have you been?" He asked as we took a seat at a table.

"I've been fine. Dad left for a trip a couple days ago. He's going on some long cruise with the new girlfriend." I rolled my eyes and drummed my fingers on the table.

George had to do the same as he huffed. "He can't actually like that woman can he? She's just so..."

"Not mom?"

George wrinkled his nose and shook his head. "Percy it's not good to say that... you know she..." His sentence trailed before I cleared my throat.

"Well anyway I was wondering if I could play the piano. I am procrastinating."

George gave a light chuckle. His silver gray eyes sparkled, something that would catch anyone's attention. For a fourty-four year old he looked good. His slightly greying black hair complimented his features which seemed more feminine than masculine. He had a light dark stubble along his jaw and a sharp nose with slightly pouty lips. Any woman, or man for that matter, would want him.

It wasn't hard to tell why my mom had liked him so much. Beautiful inside and out.

"You shouldn't procrastinate. Your mother would scold me if she ever found I fed your ways." He pointed an accusing finger at me.

"But it's science." We both wrinkled our noses at that. Neither of us found anything great in science so I could see understanding in George's face.

"I see your point kid. Go ahead if you want, the piano doesn't get touched unless it's you playing anyway. The woman will love you here if you come more often you know? You play like a prodigy or something."

"It's just a talent. Nothing special." I gave a quiet chuckle before standing and walking over to the small stage area. I pulled the piano out from the back room and pushed it into the center. I set up the bench before I began to warm up, playing a few simple notes making sure they sounded correct before reaching into my special compartment and grabbing my sheet music.

Cracking my knuckles I began to play a soft classical tune. It wasn't anything flashy, something that anyone could really play once they learned the basic keys and such.

The people in the bar drifted closer to listen but continued to talk amongst each other. I played simple tunes for awhile just mostly to get a feel for the keys again before I tried a more difficult piece.

It wasn't until my fingers began to cramp and my temple break into a sweat was when I realized I had been playing for hours, just letting my emotions drive my pieces.

A small crowd sat at the front of the stage enjoying their drinks and mingling. They applauded me as I stood from my bench with a soft smile. I quickly walked toward George who smiled at me from behind the counter. He wiped at a beer glass as he stalked over.

"You played amazing as always." He complimented honestly.

"Thanks George, what time is it?"

"11:13" He said as he checked his silver colored watch.

I yawned just hearing time. "time to go home I guess."

"Be careful walking back." George said as he handed me a small stack of bills. "your payment for the entertainment."
I smiled and nodded my thanks as I accepted it. "thanks. Have a good night."

"You to." George called after me as I walked toward the door. As I walked home I hummed a soft tune.

Swinging my keys on my left hand to keep my mind on something other stand the darkness surrounding me. the streets lamps flickered every so often and little bugs flew about.

As I pass by a dark alley I find myself pausing. A figure is slumped against the wall. A lone bottle lay at his side as he coughed into his palm. He was a young man who had to be in his early twenties and yet here he was with a large wine bottle.

I hesitantly walked up to him making his attention flick up. Deep midnight blue eyes met my own from under his hooded jacket. He licked his lips and sat up straighter. His cheeks were a bit pink and he had dark circles under his eyes.

"Hey there. You looking for something?" Frowning I cocked my head in confusion.

"You alright? I noticed you don't look very well."

"You either answer the question or get away you'll scare off customers." He snorted and slumped again against the wall.

"What are you selling?" He gave me a droll stare, we held each other's eyes before it dawned on me making horror fill my features. I stuttered to find words. Any words at all but nothing seemed to come out coherent.

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his small nose and closed his eyes. "Don't stand there looking like a fish out of water. Do you want something or not? If not scram."

I nibbled my lip before handing over a hundred making his eyes flash up to meet mine. He eyed me warily. "What do you want?" He reached out to take the money.

"Um... I don't need anything in return..."

He snatched his hand away. "I don't take pity money." He growled.

I coughed awkwardly. "Than I'll take whatever your willing to give me." I offered the money again. This time he took it and stood. He stuffed it in his pants pocket and gave me a once over.

"Let's go to your place." He swayed a bit before regaining composure before we started walking. I lead the way to my house. Upon entering the place I noticed that the man I still had yet to learn the name of was looking around curiously.

"My names Percy." I said as I hung up my coat on the rack.

"William." He mumbled. I felt a pair of arms loop around my waist. Stiffening I looked back at him.

He just innocently held me in silence. I don't know how long we stood there but eventually he moved in front of me, he was about 6'1, compared to my 5'6 making me feel a bit jealous of his height. He stooped down and kissed my jaw making me clench my hands.

He kissed down my neck and pulled me closer so our chests touched. I hesitantly wrapped my arms around his neck as he pulled me closer.

His lips were warm against my skin making goosebumps cover me as he pushed me against the wall.

I felt William begin to make bolder moves as he trailed a hand up my shirt, I shivered at the feel of his cold hand and turned my head to the side as he kissed my chest. I pushed his head back making him scowl but I leaned forward and kissed him, breathing against his lips I whispered, "my room is the one on the end." William nodded so we made our way to my room, he pushed me into the bed and climbed on top of me.

"I can already tell your a virgin, you don't hide it well." He said with a smirk, he picked up the end of his shirt and took it off. I gulped and stared up at him, the situation starting to sink in, this was real.

My eyes trailed his body nervously, he had his fair share of bruises and cuts on his body that made me feel even more concerned, I went to ask him something but paused seeing a set of bold numbers tattooed into the inside of his arm.

Reaching up I trailed my hands over it curiously.

"Why is the number 19 on the inside of your arm?"

"You ask to many questions." He muttered dryly as he brought his lips to mine. Alcohol still lingering on his breath. I wrinkled my nose it distaste. pushing his face away I shook my head.

"You breath is horrible."

He scoffed. "Can we just get this over with kid? Your ruining the mood." he danced his fingers down my chest and stomach to undo my pants.

I felt my palms begin to sweat. "Maybe this is a mistake." I thought he would have run off by now or left because I was a minor but he was still here.

He groaned. "Kid-"

"Percy."

"Prissy." He rolled his eyes, saying it wrong on purpose. "You signed up for this when you purchased my body for the night. If you aren't ready for the adult world why did you bother with me?"

"I wanted to help you." I stated firmly.

He narrowed his eyes. "Like I said before. I don't take pity money."

"I don't pity you."

"Bullshit." He spat and got up. He roughly tugged on his shirt. However he didn't take into mind he was still a bit drunk from all the wine he had been drinking. And with all the alcohol on his breath who knows what else he drank today. After he managed to get his shirt on he tripped on his way to the door and smashed into the floor.

Shooting off the bed I ran to his side and turned him over to look at his face. Panicked I shook his shoulder.

He had finally passed out.
