Chapter 37

Everything happened so fast that Sophie was a little overwhelmed. Just a little. Nothing more. Nope. Not at all.

The moment K ordered to kill them all (fun as that sounds), a squirrel from a tree turned into Frank, who quickly shot an arrow at a random shifter, turned into a bird and turned all the levers.

She saw the locks turn in the shifters cage, and their cage and the the fire that was surrounding the Lady lowered.

The next few minutes went in a blur of monster shifters and weapons, and they ended up with seven dead bodies and three shifters, including K, surrounded and disarmed.

F looked baffled and asked, "How did he escape the drug? It works on all animals."

"Henneguya salminicola." Sophie said, "The only known bacterial animal that does not breath."

Realization drew in F's eyes. Sophie found a desperate look in K's eyes, and the fact that they were defeated settle into his mind.

But one line from the prophecy kept pestering her, 'To kill the drakon who is slayed by none'.

Just when Reyna was going to kill them and end the story, twelve set of bright lights flashed behind the shifters and in front of him. She somehow knew to divert her eyes, and in all their goddy glory, stood the twelve Olympian gods.

The demigods didn't bother bow or kneel, but just nodded. Percy looked exasperated and said, "What now? Came to take credit of what we have done?"

"No. To tell you that you are supporting the wrong side." Athena said.

"How so?" Annabeth said. Sophie looked surprised, this was so OoC for Annabeth to say that. But then again, she had pride issues, and being told she was wrong...

"Daughter," Athena said clearly pissed, "We know who is right and who wrong."

"You'll have to explain." Sophie said, crossing her arms.

Athena sighed, Sophie's fate was too intertwined with the world's to smite her, "Because Lady was found breaking the rules of the gods. She was punished and you can't work across the curse to save her."

"SHE'S NOT!" Y yelled, and then explained in a deadly calm voice what she had explained to the heroes. This time, she did not break into a sob once, or even show any emotions.

The gods formed a shield around them and they argued for a good half an hour. It looked like Zeus was being stubborn on something and Athena was trying to convince him without killing him.

Once the shield was lowered, Athena said in a composed voice, "Lady needs to die. We will lift the curse off the shifters and she can continue living like a normal shifter after 200 years. If you don't, then we will kill the Lady and she will remain dead."

Sophie closed her eyes and closed and opened her fists. This was clearly the best dead they were going to get, and it seemed that Athena thought and knew that. Bargaining now, would be pushing Zeus too far.

Lady transformed into a beautiful twelve year old girl, her old look showing her maturity.

"Do it." Two simple words in her soft voice and the shifter agreed.

Annabeth handed her sword with a mournful look to Sophie and Percy uncapped riptide.

Sophie took a deep breath, a whirlwind of emotions- Anger, hurt, fear, dread, and some that she didn't even recognise hurled into a pool. But one strong thread of determination was bounding it all. This needs to be done, she reminded herself.

She looked at the sharp sword in her hand, and then looked at Percy standing opposite herself, with a similar expression of dread, looking with uneasiness at Riptide in his hand.

The little twelve year old girl, standing between them; Her face held so much innocence, so much childish happiness, and yet her eyes showed so much sorrow and experience, so much pain. These eyes did not belong to a twelve year old.

The girl nodded, and as one, both of them ran their swords through the stomach of the little girl.

Killed her in cold blood.
