Ch10 - Making Plans
Annabeth's pov:
Annabeth sat at the ping pong table in the rec room. All her friends and some other cabin councillors sat around her and looked at her. Concerned.
Last time when Percy had been kidnapped, she had broken down. She had cried. And she was allowed to. But this time, even as she waited, not a single tear came to her eyes. No sadness filled her heart like before.
She was angry. And her determination had bounded her anger, and given her a direction. She watched as Grover came into the room, and flinch when he saw her face.
She wasn't surprised. That was the reaction of most of the people that had seen her.
Piper had said, "Your eyes are always stormy, Annabeth, but today, it's like, you mess with me and you die."
Her eyes had the controlled rage.
She motioned for Grover to sit dow. He came and sat besides her. And she told him to try and talk to Percy with his Empathy link. Grover nodded and closed his eyes. After a while, his eyebrows furrowed and he looked frustrated and then he opened his eyes. He gave a tentative grin to Annabeth.
"There is good news and there is bad news. Good news is that Percy's alive, and as far as I know, not seriously hurt. Bad news, because of our empathy link being so old, I cannot track the exact location. But it's somewhere near southern Asia. I will be able to tell more when I get closer."
Annabeth grinned. Of course, her seaweed brain is unhurt. No one can hurt him, can they?
But she was still angry. Previously, she was going to leave the last island dragon alone. No need to act on the prophecy unless it is doing some harm. But now, she was personally going to search out the last island, and going to send him to tartarus. You do not mess with her Seaweed brain.
Not again.
Chiron came in. Annabeth told him of her plan. It was quite simple, go to south Asia, find out Percy, kill the drakon and be back home preferably by dinner.
But demigod quests never go as they plan, do they?
Keefe pov:
"Well, that filled me with all warm and bubbly feelings." Ro said offhandly, after the councillors leaped away in a huff.
Edaline looked as all of them, as they left their hands and sat on the couch, the chairs or the floor.
"Thank you, all of you." Edaline told them.
"No, Sophie was all of our friend. She became the family for those whose family is shitty. And hey, families stick for each other, don't they?" Linh said.
"In the heat of the moment, we told the council we didn't need their help. But how are supposed to track her, without her registry pendant?" Alden asked.
"The registry pendants and half the trackers are already crushed and useless. I looked into it." Dex said, "but whoever did the kidnapping, however smooth they are, have not done proper inspections on Sophie. Because half the trackers are still quiet intact."
"It might be an ambush. There is a very good chance it's an ambush." Granite aka Tiergan said.
"It isn't" Sandor said, "The trackers are set in a way that if they are put somewhere far from Sophie, then the trackers shut down automatically and gives a warning of ambush. Then, we can ambush the people who are trying to ambush us."
Everyone nodded. Hope filled in Keefe's chest. He knew the kidnappers were powerfuk. But they were inexperienced. Maybe, they had some chink in their security and they could have Sophie escape. Dex showed them the place in the world map. It was some place in the southern hemisphere.
"Dex, you said that they had put a scattering device where they are, right?" Alden asked.
Dex nodded.
"Then how were you able to tracker Sophie?"
"Let's say, for example, the signal coming from the trackers are a beam of small balls. Then, when the scattering device does it works, the balls all get scattered, obviously. Because of this the trackers cannot give the excat location. But the sensors pick up the scattered balls and then give an estimated location. Makes sense?" Dex explained.
Everyone nodded.
A dark room is seen with two limp and bound bodies on the floor. A blonde girl, of about 18 years lay unconscious on the floor. Her hairs were falling haphazardly around her eyes, her arms were bound behind her back and her ankles were bound. Her knees were bent at an awkward angle.
A boy lay in a similar position nearby. The girl shifted and moved a little, realising that she was bound, her first thought was that this was some prank by her friend Keefe. Then she realised where she was.
The room she was in, if you could call it that, was fully sealed. The walls were completely covered, with no air sockets. But she couldn't feel any sort of breathing problems.
She managed to push herself to a sitting position. Her right knee was stiff, she was going to definitely be limping. She looked at her ankles. The ropes were too tight to get the knots even a little loose.
Her body was checked over. All her necklaces and pendants, including her fade fuel was taken. Her registry pendant was removed too, and she was sure all of Sandor's trackers were removed too. She hoped that maybe some of the well hidden trackers were left, but hoped vanished when she saw a null on the floor nearby. Any tracker would be useless, anyways. The signals would be scattered.
As, Sophie started concentrating on the knot on her ankle to blow it up, she saw the boy in front of her wake up. He was about 17-18 years old. He was dressed in a soft blue onesie, the kind usually wore by babies. From what she could see, he was rather well built.
He first tried to move his hands then his ankles, but just like her, he had no go at it either. That's when he noticed the girl sitting in front of him.
She looked familiar. He couldn't tell in the dark though. It were the clothes that gave her away. They were the same kind, he had seen in his dream. Tunic and pants.
"You're Sophie Foster, aren't you?" the boy asked.
"How-how did you know?"
"I saw you in my dreams." Percy said. Then realised how flirty that sounded, "I- I mean..."
Sophie laughed, "I get it. You are a demigod, aren't you?"
Percy nodded. "Yeah, I am Percy Jackson."
Sophie mentally praised herself for not squealing and fangirling at this point. She said, "Should have known the demigod in blue onesie would be you."
"Hey! Don't blame me. I was sleeping when I was..." he trailed off remembering the seriousness of the situation.
"Its okay, I can remove out bonds." Sophie said. She concentrated on her ankle bounds and with her outward channeling, the ropes burst. It stung where one of the larger parts hit, but she couldn't be bothered by that. She stood up. Her legs were wobbly, making her fall down. She stood up again, more carefully this time.
She went over to Percy and removed his ankle and wrist bounds. She couldn't do that on her wrist, since she couldn't see it. She could risk blasting her wrist in the process if she tried. But as she stood up and went over to Percy, she had realised that the goblin star Sandor had insisted she kept when she slept wasn't taken.
"Percy there is a weapon on my thigh pocket, take it out and cut my wrist bonds." Sophie instructed.
She was very much aware how awkward it would be for both of them if Percy removed the star from her thigh pocket, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Percy nodded awkwardly, apparently thinking the same thing and coming to the same conclusion. He moved his fingers across her leggings lightly, making sure it was the least uncomfortable and touchy as possible, and removed the star.
He looked at the star curiously for a second and then cut her bound wrists. They both stretched their limbs for a minute and then looked awkwardly at each other.
Sophie patted all over her body. Her registry pendant, and nexus was taken. Half the trackers were taken, and it wasn't that the kidnappers couldn't find the other half. Even the most well hidden trackers, in her hair, arms and legs were found.
But the person who had kidnapped her hadn't even taken the most obvious trackers above her knees and her torso. Not that she was complaining, but it was a curious thing.
The kidnapper seemed to have very high moral standards. Then why kidnap someone in the first place? Maybe the real bad guys forced someone to kidnap her?
But right now she had more immediate problems to face.
Sophie said, "Look, I know that you don't know know me, okay? But I know of you, and I know I can trust you. You can trust me too."
Percy nodded, "I know that you know of me. I don't know how, but you do. And I have collected that you are trustworthy. We don't know each other, but we can trust each other.
Shall we call it a truce?"
"A truce."
Authors note:
I have a head filled with ideas. Adventures are coming up, wait for it. The situation has escalated in way less chapters than I had originally planned, but I like how it's going.
Ps: I am not going to ship Sophie × Percy. I know this was a typical romance action book scene, but I am not going to break up Percaeth or Sokeefe (even if it hasn't sailed yet). I was just trying to be realistic and showing the horrors of kidnapping.
Pss: All the question marks, like how did the kidnapping happen without a trace, who did it, what's on the last island. It will all be explained.
