Chapter 12

When I woke up, it was so bright outside, I could barely see. The clock next to my bed in the hospital read: 11:45 AM. A nurse walking by saw me awake and brought in some breakfast. I wonder how Jason and Catie are doing in school right now. I thought.
Just then, my dad came in carrying a bag. He set it on the table and took out some chocolates. He handed one to me.
"I just thought I'd bring a little something to share with you, since it's Thanksgiving break," dad said. I gasped. So THATS why Jason and Catie we're allowed to be here yesterday!
"What's today?" I asked, hoping it was not close to Thanksgiving. Dad stepped aside and pointed to the calendar. I screamed inside as it read: November 27, 2019. I didn't know what to do. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! I hope that everything is fine. I thought.

"Good news Iris! They're letting you out of the hospital today!" Dad said as he barged into my hospital room on Thanksgiving day. I smiled faintly, and sat up.
"You can get out of bed, dear," the nurse confirmed. I lightly touched the cold floor with my toe, and then put my whole foot down. It felt like ice because I wasn't use to it yet.
When both feet were on the floor, I had to remember how to walk. It was a complicated process for me because I hadn't gotten out of bed for a few weeks now. Who knows why i was here in the first place. Whatever that witch did to me, was really powerful.
My dad basically carried me out to the car. Once we got there, he plopped me into the front seat, and we headed to my Grandma Loren's house. Grandma Loren is my favorite grandma. Don't get me wrong, my mom's mom is great too, but dad's mom, she's awesome. Basically, shop with her whenever you can. Say you forgot your purse, and she'll buy you anything. She's rich so that helps too.
Her house is the best. There are all sorts of hidden compartments to find, hidden rooms, and even a hidden barn in the yard! I still haven't found them all yet.
As soon as i walked into the front door, everyone came and gave me a bear hug. Everyone parted to let me through and we sat back down at the table.
The food smelled delicious. I was in heaven once the thick, luscious, juicy turkey was set in the middle if the table. There were assortments of hams, potatoes, jellies, jams, vegetables, fruits, and casseroles. Grandma Loren sat next to Grandpa Will at the head of the table; that was their usual spots.
Maybe this holiday will be a good one for a change, i thought. Everything was perfect, everything was normal. Nothing was gonna go wrong. But oh i was so wrong.
