Chapter 11

I stared in the mirror as long as I can remember. The sight of me THAT pale made me sick for real. My thoughts were interrupted when my phone rang in my pocket. It was a text from Jason.
Jason😛:Hey! Why aren't you at school today?
Me:sick
Jason😛:really? With what?
Me:idk...
Jason😛:hope u feel better soon❤️
Me:thx😊
Jason😛:I'll let Catie know that ur sick.
Me: k. Cya
Jason😛:cya
Knowing that Jason and Catie still care, I felt a little better. I could swear that my face turned a shade less pale. I stepped out of the bathroom and headed to my room.
Once inside, I went to the safe with the firekey in it. What could the others be? I thought. I looked around. Nothing in particular stood out to me.
"What you seek you will never find! Give up little girl...." a voice whispered in my ear. It was the same creepy voice from my dream. I turned my head, but nothing was there. My head started to hurt and my vision blurred. I couldn't tell what was up or down. I grabbed ahold of my dresser to steady myself, but it was no use.
Black splotches filled my vision And my knees buckled. I collapsed in a heap on the floor. The last thing I remembered yelling was for my dad. Then everything went black.

I woke up in a strange place. It was all bright and weird. People stood over me who I couldn't make out. My eyes were slits as they slowly slid open. I made out my dad, Catie, Jason, my grandparents, and a person with a mask. It was a nurse, I think.
"She's awake!" Catie gasped. My dad, Jason, and my grandparents all smiled. So did Catie. They gave me a big group hug. I didn't resist.
     "Where am I?" I asked.
"In the hospital! You've been asleep for at least two days," Jason replies. I sit up so fast, I could feel my back pop. The nurse came over and laid me back down.
"Two days??" I almost yelled. Everyone looked nervous.
"Yes. It's ok. We'll take care of you! I just need to give you another dose of medicine," the nurse replied gently. I let myself sink into my pillow as the nurse filled a needle with medicine. I winced as the cold metal jabbed my skin. A hand slipped into mine and I squeezed in hard. Whoever it was groaned. It was over pretty quick. I've always hated shots.
I looked over and about had a heart attack. Jason's hand was in mine and he quickly pulled away. His face was a bright pink.
"I, uhh.." he stumbled. He looked kinda cute when he was embarrassed.
"It's ok," I said. That made him feel a little better by the looks of it. His face was back to normal in no time. Catie made the kissey face. I rolled my eyes and gave her the death stare. She snickered.
Everyone was told to leave. Jason refused. He said he needed to talk to me for a few minutes. The nurse just sighed and walked away, giving up.
"About earlier.... you just looked like you needed to punch something or whatever. I couldn't do anything more but let you squeeze the living daylights out of my hand," he teased.
"Well, what can I say? Shots are definitely NOT my thing. I hate them so much," I replied. He laughed at that. I've always liked his laugh. It makes me warm inside. Uhhh I mean, it's not that I like him or anything.
Anyway, we laughed and talked for a while, when the nurse came in and said that I needed to get some rest. I hadn't realized how tired I was until she said that. Jason slipped his hand in mine again and gave it one last squeeze. This time, I squeezed back. He walked down the hall and I watched him go the entire way. Once he was gone, I sunk back into my pillow and fell into sleep.
