Chapter 1 - Exploring
Lily Metto's POV
—
I yawned, sitting up. Everything was blurry as I looked around the guest bedroom, but my vision cleared as I blinked and my eyes watered a bit. The usual morning stuff, you know? I slowly got up, making sure not to put too much pressure on my ankle immediately, I've already done that and ended up falling far too many times to count.
The guest bedroom in my aunts' house was nice, it has beige walls and a fluffy hazelnut coloured carpet. The door, doorframe, and window frame were all a dark chocolate brown colour, making them pop in the room. All in all, I liked the colour scheme of the room, I'll have to ask Christie if she painted it or not, because most homes don't come so designed like this. Plus, painting is right up her alley.
I open my suit case, and get dressed quickly. I'm wearing a light red shirt, not pink, a light red long sleeved shirt. On top of it, I have a dark teal coloured shirt, I like the colour combination. And I'm also wearing a simple pair of leggings, and a white pair of socks. I put on the maroon bracelet cuff I brought, and the necklace as well. I'd put on the earrings later.
I looked out the window, it was sunny outside with what looked like a pleasant breeze, with how the leaves in the trees sway slightly. The town of Camelloe Grove was actually quite small I had discovered when we first got here last night, but only now am I realizing how it's surrounded by forest. The forest looks nice, very dense, but nice.
I then around, and go Jerrie's cage. He was around the edge of his cage, climbing the bars like a latter a bit, and looking around the room.
"Yep, new room, bud." I miss while opening the cage, letting him out. My door was shut, and there was nothing he could really run under other than the nightstand, but I could easily entice him out. "Want to look around the room with me?"
My answer was a small " squeak" as he scurried around the room. He often put his nose to the ground, taking in the new smells and such. I followed him on my hands and knees, knowing walking with him running around like this would not be a good idea.
Eventually he turned to face me and just sat there. After a minute of just staring at each other he ran a bit closer to me, and stared once more. And again. Then I realized, he wants me to carry him. I swear, if only gerbils could talk.
"Ok, up up." I say while picking him up, and walking around the room normally, giving him the elevated tour. After about ten minutes of giving Jerrie the tour of the room I put him back in his cage, and got him some breakfast from his food bag right next to his enclosure.
I got up, double checked that his cage was locked, and then walked out of the room. The house was layer out much differently than my house, so even though I knew my room was different, it took me a moment to recall how to navigate the house.
Down the hall, to the left, is the stairs. I walked to the stairs and down them, I felt myself land on my ankle wrong but ignored it, stopping a second to get my bearings. After the stairs you can go straight to the front door, or turn to the right twice to find yourself in a hallway with a bathroom. At the end of the hallway is the living room. I found myself at the front door, and turned around going down the hallway and into the living room, where Christie was sitting.
"Good morning, Christie!" I greeted her, sitting on the couch. The living room had a similar colour scheme to the guest bedroom.
"'Morning, Lily. Etta is still asleep, so that's why she's not out here. I thought that you should take a look around the neighborhood a bit, breakfast will be ready when you get back!" Christie told me. That did sound fun, I guess. The town looked nice afterall.
"Yeah, I think I'll do that. I'mma grab my phone and headphones and head out." I told her, standing up and walking towards the hallway.
"Have fun, stay safe, Lily! You have my number, so call of text if you need me!" Christie reminded me from her seat, I looked back and nodded. Then continued my walk back to the guess bedroom.
My phone was on the nightstand, next to my headphones. I decided I wouldn't need a coat, but I didn't have pockets.. curse women's clothing. I grabbed the mini backpack I packed just for these type of situations. Small enough to not be a backpack that you'd go to school with, big enough to fit you phone, and a few other essentials.
I stuck my finger in Jerrie's cage and waved a little bit, he nuzzled up against my fingertip, making me smile. "Bye, Jerrie, I'll see you later."
I walked back down the stairs once more, and out on my shoes next to the front door. They were simple ankle boots, I liked them because they added support to my ankle that most shoes don't give. And I walked out, only to realize I don't have keys. I closed the door after going back inside the house, and went to the living room where Christie still sat.
"Do you have an extra pair of keys?" I asked my aunt. She was scrolling through tv channels, but put the remote down to listen to my question. She had a look of realization before nodding.
"They're on the shelf by the front door, we have three hooks, my keys are on the 'C' hook, Etta's keys are on the 'M' hook, and the guest keys are on the 'G' hook." She told me, and went back to scrolling through the channels.
"Thanks! See you later!" I replied before going to find those keys.
It was simple enough, just had to grab the guest keys and put them in my mini backpack, which was a plain black colour with silver accents. Then I walked out the front door, shutting it behind me, making sure it was locked.
The fresh air felt nice to inhale, and it smelled forest-y in a way. The breeze made the heat from the sun bearable and it was an overall nice day out. Who knew that this small town in the middle of no where had such nice weather?
I started walking down the side walk, passing a few houses. They all seemed unique in their own way, some had specially made fences, others had ornate brick archways above the front door, and a few had both. It was nice compared to the bigger town setting I was used to, where all the houses were made the same because if was easier than coming up with a bunch of original designs, and probably more expensive too.
There were a few people out as well, enjoying the nice day. Children played on the play structure of the park, and their parents watched from benches nearby. Some adults also walked the crosswalks like I am. I had exited the resident area obviously, as I found myself on the other half of the town.
This half had food options, like locally owned restaurants and some fast food options as well. There was a single grocery store, Freddiemeyers. (Do you like the original name I came up with?). There was also the park, which had the kids playing on it and such.
On the other side of the park, near the forest, there seemed to be hiking trails as well. I'll have to go on one of those with my aunts eventually. I want paying attention to right ahead of me, and collided with another person walking, my ankle completely giving out.
"Ow— Are you ok?" A boy's voice asked. I looked up from where I had collapsed, thanks a lot ankle, and saw well, a boy.
He had fluffy brown hair, a grey button up, and dark blue jeans. His voice sounded pretty chipper, if that makes sense. He extended a hand out to me.
"Thanks, I'm fine. Don't worry." I told him while accepting the help, and he pulled me up.
"I mean, I did bump into you, and you fell, and I was worried! I didn't think I was walking that fast." He said awkwardly.
"It wasn't your fault, I was distracted, and you weren't walking that fast I'm sure. My ankle has problems, so the slightest disruption can cause if to fail on me." I said laughing a bit towards the end.
"Oh-" He said before joining in the laughter. After a minute of just laughing he composed himself. "I'm Kellar! I don't think I've seen you around here before, and it's a small town, so are you new?"
"I'm Lily, I'm visiting my aunts, they moved here around a month ago. Nice to meet you, Kellar!" I replied, he seemed confused for a moment, then his eyes went wide a bit.
"Oh, is Marrietta your aunt?" He asked, pointing slightly towards the sky.
"Uhm, yeah. How'd you know?" I asked, confused by how someone who seemed my age knew my aunt.
"Oh, she was friends with my mom before she moved away when she was a kid! She told me about it after she moved back!" Kellar informed me.
"Oh, cool! She didn't say anything about living here when she was young.." I trailed off, but shook me head. "So, where do you live?"
Straightforward, I know.
"Right across from your aunts' place actually, heh." He told me. Ironic, but it makes sense, if his mom was friends with my aunt so long ago.
"Cool!" I replied. I honestly don't know how to continue the conversation.
"Want me to show you around town? Yeah sure, you can learn the layout on your own, but you can't learn the best spots and restaurants unless you have someone like me giving the grand tour!" He said, pointing to himself smugly. He seemed kind of cocky, despite being chipper. What a wild card.
"Uh, sure. As long as I'm back home before uh let's see.." I take off my backpack and pull out my phone, checking the time. It read 11:08am. "As long as I'm back home by noon we should be good!"
"Ok, sounds great!" Kellar said, and he started walking forward on the direction I was going. "Follow me!"
