Chapter 4: Close Encounters

Author's POV

Y/N sat at the edge of her bed, staring at her phone. She couldn't believe Jungkook had actually responded. Her heart raced as she reread his message, each word bringing a strange mix of relief and anxiety. The idea of meeting Jungkook, someone she admired deeply, felt surreal. But the knowledge that someone else-someone with dark intentions-was watching her every move sent chills down her spine.

She typed her reply with trembling fingers.

Y/N: I'm at a cafe near my campus. Can you come here?

She hesitated, glancing around her room before pressing send. Maybe this was all too much. Maybe she was dragging him into something dangerous. But as her gaze fell on the series of messages from the unknown number, her fear pushed her forward. She couldn't do this alone.

Jungkook's POV

Jungkook read her message and wasted no time. Pulling on a hat and hoodie, he slipped out of the dorm quietly, careful not to attract attention. He didn't fully understand why he was doing this, why he felt so responsible for someone he barely knew. But a nagging feeling told him that ignoring it could have consequences far worse than he could imagine.

As he neared the café, he scanned the crowd for any familiar faces, his heartbeat quickening. When he finally spotted her, sitting alone by the window with her phone clutched in her hands, he felt a strange sense of urgency.

He approached her table quietly, slipping into the seat across from her. "Y/N?" he said, voice barely above a whisper.

Y/N's eyes widened as she looked up, relief flooding her features. "You actually came," she whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.

Jungkook managed a small smile. "I told you I would. Now tell me what's going on."

Y/N's POV

She felt a wave of emotions-relief, fear, gratitude. Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her shirt as she gathered her thoughts.

"There's... someone who's been watching me," she started, her voice wavering. "It started after the concert. At first, I thought it was just a prank, but then I started getting messages. Weird, creepy messages from an unknown number."

Jungkook's expression darkened. "Have they tried to approach you in person?"

She shook her head. "No, just messages. But it's like they know everything I'm doing. They even mentioned my lunch plans earlier today."

Jungkook clenched his fists under the table. "Do you have the messages with you? I need to see them."

Y/N nodded, pulling out her phone and handing it to him. As Jungkook read through the texts, his expression grew more serious, his jaw tightening.

"This isn't just a prank," he murmured. "Whoever this is, they're watching you closely. They know too much."

Author's POV

As they spoke, neither of them noticed the figure watching them from across the street, hidden behind a newspaper. The figure's gaze never wavered, eyes locked on Y/N and Jungkook as they leaned in close, their conversation growing more intense.

The figure smirked, snapping a quick photo before slipping away into the crowd. The game had only just begun, and they were determined to play it to the very end.

Back at the Café

Jungkook handed Y/N's phone back to her, his expression unreadable. "I think you need to take this seriously, Y/N. Whoever's doing this... they're not just a fan. They have other intentions."

Y/N shivered, her mind racing. "But why? I'm just an ordinary person. Why would someone target me?"

Jungkook's gaze softened, a hint of vulnerability crossing his features. "I don't know. But until we figure it out, I don't think you should be alone."

She looked up at him, surprise flickering in her eyes. "What are you suggesting?"

He took a deep breath, clearly choosing his words carefully. "If it's okay with you, I could... I could stay nearby for a while. Just until we get this sorted."

Her eyes widened. "You'd really do that for me?"

He shrugged, giving her a small smile. "I'd do it for anyone who needed help. Besides, I feel like there's more to this than meets the eye."

Y/N hesitated, her heart pounding as she thought about the offer. Having him close by was both reassuring and terrifying in equal measure. But the shadow looming over her life was even scarier.

"Okay," she said, her voice steady. "Thank you, Jungkook."

Later That Night

Back in her apartment, Y/N checked her phone obsessively, her nerves on edge as she waited for any sign of the unknown stalker. Every noise, every shadow felt amplified, as if someone were waiting just outside her door.

Finally, her phone buzzed. She grabbed it quickly, expecting another message from the unknown number. But instead, it was from Jungkook.

Jungkook: Don't worry. I'm just down the hall if you need me. Get some rest.

She smiled, a feeling of warmth spreading through her despite the fear. Knowing he was nearby made her feel safer than she'd felt in days.

Unknown's POV

From the darkness of their hideout, the figure watched the screen, the image of Jungkook and Y/N at the café now saved among many others. They tilted their head, tracing a finger across Jungkook's face on the screen.

"Oh, Y/N," they murmured to themselves. "You're playing with fire, and you don't even know it."

Their fingers danced over the keyboard, typing out another message with a smirk.

Unknown: You can't hide from me, Y/N. Not even with him by your side.

They hit send, watching the message deliver. The thrill of the chase made their heart race, their mind filling with the possibilities of what was to come.
