Visions
Rick threw down a torch that lit up how far Sarah had fallen. It wasn't as far as to kill someone but she could still have been injured. Taking a more secure rope, Rick tossed it down and decided he would go down first.
"She risked her life for me." Evie said guiltily.
"Don't think like that, she looked up to you mom. She's fine, she has to be." Alex said as he and his mother watched Rick lower himself down.
"It's her, Sarah is the girl you wrote me about. I inspired her to come to Egypt and dig into the past." Evie asked her son.
Alex turned to look at his mother and nodded. They had been there for close to four months and Alex knew that Sarah was reliable and trustworthy. He came to her with many problems and now he maybe the reason she is lying dead on the floor.
"It's clear, come down carefully." Rick called from below.
Alex lowered himself down first. He lit a torch off Rick's first torch and looked around. It was a large room, in the center was a pool and there hanging onto the edge was Sarah. Running past his father, he grabbed Sarah and pulled her away from the edge.
"Mom, she's breathing." Alex said as he looked Sarah over.
Evie rushed over to her son and Sarah who was in his arms. Sarah looked unharmed though she was completely drenched. She had managed to find her way up to the surface of the pool and pull herself up? Evie stood and went to the pool, the depth seemed to last forever.
"What is this place?" Rick asked as he took his torch and looked around the room.
"A cleansing room, where priests and priestesses would come to be washed clean." Evie answered as she looked around the room as well. "Completely intact, yet in the middle of nowhere."
"We need to get her out of here, she needs medical help." Alex said as he picked Sarah up and began to yell out instructions to the workers above.
They finally got out, however Alex would not let Sarah be taken to her camp. Instead he insisted she stay in his tent so he and his family could keep an eye on her.
Sarah's eyes opened, it was late and the dessert had become cold. She sat up and looked around, this was not her tent, not her bed, she was somewhere else. However she felt the pull of something she had not felt before. Standing, she began to walk to the dig site. Everyone at camp was resting from the eventful day and slept blissfully as she walked past them, almost as if she were in a trance.
Alex sensed something from the chair he was sleeping it. His eyes opened quickly and he was shocked to find Sarah not asleep in his bed. He jumped up and ran out of his tent. He didn't see her anywhere. Running to his parents tent, he quickly woke them up to help find Sarah.
Evelyn and Rick ran out of their tent and began to search. Evie then also felt a strange yet familiar pull. She allowed herself to follow it, Rick unsure what was happening, followed his wife with his son right beside him.
Evelyn went into the tunnel right to the spot where she had almost fallen. Took the ladder down to where they saw Sarah standing at the edge of the pool. Evie walked carefully to Sarah and then as if knowing the language not spoken for thousands of years, she talked to Sarah.
'What is in the water?' Evie called out in Ancient Egyptian.
'Bodies' Sarah replied cryptically. 'Royal bodies, ones that made trouble and had to be punished. Imhotep killed us.'
Sarah then turned to Evelyn and looked at her with her head tilted. As if she had known her from long before.
'Nefertiri?' Sarah asked.
'Oh, Neferure, he got you too.' Evie replied as Sarah fell to the ground but was quickly caught by Alex.
"What just happened?" Rick asked clearly confused.
"Her spirit is an old one too. Rick, he killed her too. Imhotep must have killed her to hide his affair with the pharaoh's mistress." Evie answered then turned to look at the pool. "What other reason would he have?"
The next morning, Sarah was asleep in Alex's bed. He watched her as much as he could for the rest of the night. Over four months, he had grown to care for Sarah but he would never admit to it. The tent flap opened and there stood his father.
"How's she doing?" Rick asked concerned for her.
"She still sleeps, she never did anything like this before, why would it start now?" Alex asked in a low whisper.
"Your mother's visions didn't start until we found that damn bracelet, you remember, the one that tried to kill you. Some places have memories and they get unlocked in mysterious ways." Rick shrugged unsure what else to tell his son besides the truth.
Alex stood up and walked out of the tent with his father. They were talkin about all the times that Imhotep had returned and Alex begged his father to tell him it would be impossible for Imhotep to return for a third time.
"Kid, I wish he never showed up in the first place, he's been back more times than anyone should, he was abandoned last time so maybe he learned his lesson?" Rick said sarcastically.
Evie then rushed up to them quickly with a book in her hand, neither of them knew if she was about to give them good news or bad news. She quickly held it up and pointed to a drawing of two women and the had their hands pointed out to what looked like a floating stone.
"Nefertiri and Neferure were cousins! They were guardians of a 'life stone' though I have never heard about it until now. It's a myth about the tear of life that kept the Nile flowing and life flowing through Egypt. It had the power to give life and take it away. We also know of two books that do that as well, the books...they are at the museum in England." Evie explained with a sad look in her eyes.
"Mother, none of this has ever happened with Sarah before. Maybe she just hit her head or something?" Alex asked hoping the answer would be more simple.
"Remembering bodies are underwater and an ancient language?" Evie asked skeptical.
Rick had to agree with his wife. The tent flap opened again and there stood Sarah yawning and rubbing her eyes. She stopped as the O'Connell family looked back at her.
"What happened? All I remember was throwing a rope and the ground shaking." Sarah said trying to remember.
"We think you fell into a pool, that seemed to open up some memories of a past life perhaps." Evie said and Sarah nodded her head.
"I felt someone push me up from the water and onto the edge, they felt human though and not spiritual." Sarah said confused.
"Don't think too much on it but I think something of great importance is under that water." Evie said as she explained to Sarah what she just told Rick and Alex.
Sarah listened and did not even disbelieve Evelyn once. In fact she added on that she had once heard of the stone in her studies but that the stone was destroyed by Seti the first because he determined no mortal should have had access to that much power.
"We need to get to what's under that water and to the books." Evie said as she looked at Alex and Rick as well as Sarah.
"How do we do that? Can we split up and hope nothing happens until we get them?" Rick asked unsure.
Sarah pointed to the sky behind them. It was dark and angry, something told her that whatever the books were being used for were not good.
