Chapter 1 - The Rainbow Kingdom

Notes before the Chapter begins!

The Chapters are going to be in first person, which is different than what I normally do, as I usually write in third person, so there may be some grammatical errors. Sorry if there's any!

I've written this on a laptop, so I put spaces in front of - Chapter 1 - , -The Rainbow Kingdom - and - Light Steve POV - to centre them because it looks professional idk
But I've looked at it on my phone and it's kind of a mess. I'm not sure what it looks like to readers, so apologies if they look messed up.

There are some things that might not line up with the canon of Rainbow Quest and the other series, as it's been a very long time since I've watched them. I've tried rewatching them but I just haven't been able to find time, so some things may be inaccurate.
One thing I know that is definitely not accurate to canon is that this Chapter takes place in the Rainbow Kingdom, which was destroyed. In a lot of my stories, I use the Rainbow Kingdom as the main setting just because it's easy to gather characters there, so in THIS STORY'S CANON the Rainbow Kingdom was rebuilt after the finale of Rainbow Quest.

Alright, thanks for reading all this explanation lol
Hope you enjoy the Chapter! :DD

                                                                                              - Chapter 1 -

                                                                                  -The Rainbow Kingdom -

                                                                                        - Light Steve POV -

Dawn shone through the small crack between the blinds covering the window, and the soft chittering and calling of birds waking up echoed in the silent street below.

I groaned, my eyes blinking open and wincing at the sudden brightness, despite my windows being mostly closed.

I sat up slowly, wishing that I could stay in the warm bed a bit longer as the sudden cold of the morning sunk into my bones.
I heaved myself out of the warm, comforting bed with a solemn sigh.

I picked up a clipboard that I had left on my nightstand and looked through what it said, which were instructions on what I had to do today.

A meeting with the Leaders about possibly expanding the Kingdom...
A few training sessions with new recruits...
Picking up and delivering supplies from shops to the far-away Colourless Guard Outpost...
And general Colourless Captain things.

I felt a flicker of a smile form on my face. Although it did seem like a lot, I knew it was a lot better than constantly fighting against new threats and enemies.
The Colourless Guard almost seemed to not be needed anymore, but I knew that it was better to be prepared than to be caught off guard.

As I headed towards the stairs to the downstairs area of my house, I paused at the top step and glanced at the photo hung on the wall.

It was a picture of me and Sabre, grinning and waving to the camera.
It was from one of the few times there was a peaceful break between fights, where Professor Red had made something he called a camera and wanted Sabre to test it out.
And I had the honour of being chosen by Sabre to take a photo with, although back then I was more worried about the camera blowing up, evident in my nervous smile, than what precious moments these would be in the future, once Sabre was...gone...

My smile faltered a bit. Every day I would say hello and goodbye to Sabre, or...the photo of Sabre, and every day I would have to push through that grief I reawakened each day.
I regretted how I acted in the past, as if I had all the time in the world to apologise to Sabre. How young and naïve I was.

And how young and naïve the new Steves were, growing up in a world without war, which I was grateful for, and without Sabre, which I was not grateful for.
But I still had a day to get through, so I smiled at Sabre, or the photo of Sabre, and whispered softly; "Thanks for everything. Wish me luck today." And with a wave I disappeared downstairs, ready to quickly eat breakfast and head out for the day.

                               ---

I tried my best not to slump over in my seat, watching the Leaders bicker and argue like children.

"I don't think it's best for my people if we knock down my part of the wall!" Yellow Leader glared at Orange Leader, whose eyes' widened.
"One, it's not your wall, it's the entire Kingdom's wall, and two, if we knock down that part of the wall, your people will have more room to expand!" Orange Leader snapped back, looking at Yellow Leader like he was a complete idiot.

"I don't think knocking down the walls is a good idea in the first place." Blue Leader spoke up, looking nervous.
Green Leader glanced at Blue Leader in confusion, "What? The whole point of this meeting is deciding where to expand."
Blue Leader looked a bit panicked, "Oh, no, I didn't mean stop the construction! I mean that the wall is a crucial part of our defence here at the Rainbow Kingdom. If we knock it down, who knows what could happen? What if a new villain rises up while we're rebuilding? What if children from the Kingdom go out alone and get hurt? There's so many possibilities of what could go wrong."

The Orange Leader grimaced, as if he hadn't thought of that beforehand.
"You're right. So I guess we should build the new wall before knocking down the old wall."

Murmurs of agreement echoed around the room, and the tension in the room evaporated, to my relief.

"What do you think, Light?" The Indigo Leader asked, and all heads turned to me.

I sat up in my chair and hoped I looked like I had been fully engaged the whole time.
"I think the Orange Leader's idea is good. I can also appoint more patrols around the wall during construction, if that will ease your nervousness, Blue Leader."

Blue Leader smiled. "It would, Captain."
Violet Leader nodded, "So, construction will be officially starting next week, correct?"

"Correct." Orange Leader murmured.

"If you want, Light, I can help guard the walls." M - or the Red Leader - smiled at me, who returned my friend's smile back.

"Red Leader, I don't know if you've forgotten, but you are the leader of your kingdom. They need you there, not patrolling around the Kingdom walls." Yellow Leader frowned.

M's smile faltered and he sighed. "Yes, I understand. My duties as leader come first."

I bit back my own sigh. There goes having a friend on patrol with me. But Yellow Leader was right. M - or Red Leader - needed to watch over his Kingdom and protect his people.

The meeting was soon dismissed and Light headed down to the Colourless Guard Headquarters to inform them of the increased patrols, and for the training session with the new recruits.

                                ---

"All right, recruits! Line up!" I called, watching as the armoured Steves dashed into position.

There were a few stumbling steps and almost crash landings, but their formation was pretty decent.
I could correct the issues later, as for now I had to introduce them to the basics.

"I am Light Steve, but you will refer to me as Captain Light, or just Captain for simplicity. I understand that many citizens in the Kingdom do not get our need for Guards, but a threat could rise at any moment. We need to be prepared. We need to be strong."
I paced back and forth in front of the recruits, scanning their faces with varying expressions on their faces.

There were seven new recruits in this small group, all with different backgrounds and reasoning for joining.
They all had their different skills, strengths and weaknesses, and many had surprised me with how much potential they had.

But that potential would be wasted if they didn't start training.
Unfortunately, it was only a short session, as they were interrupted by a very panicked Time.

"Light!" Time's voice shouted from behind them.

I whipped around, eyes widening in surprise when I spotted Time, who had disappeared for a while after Sabre's death, but had reappeared once he recharged his powers, running towards me.
"Time? What are you--" I started.
"I sensed a threat! Something is happening and it's bad!" He yelped, skidding to a stop in front of me.

I bit back a gasp, and glanced behind me to look at the shocked recruits, trying to hide my fear in front of them.
"I did say it was better to be prepared for a threat. Now tell the others to meet me in the Announcement Hall, I'll explain the situation with Time there." I instructed them, and although they all looked nervous, they darted off to inform the closest Colourless Guard.

I turned to Time, who was looking at me with a panicked expression as he waited to get a chance to explain.
"Alright. Tell me everything." I frowned.

Yippee! First Chapter done. I'm quite happy with it, and hopefully the rest of the Chapters will be just as good, if not better.

This Chapter is mainly just setting up the world building and explaining what's happening after the end of Rainbow Quest.

This is something that I've heard and I'm not sure if it is true or not but apparently (according to the Fandom Wiki page that I saw about Time's powers) Time has the ability to sense danger/evil, even from another universe.
I don't remember that ever being mentioned in either Rainbow Quest or Steve Saga (it might've but I just don't remember because I haven't watched it in a while), but it fits with the story so I'm giving him that ability.

With the mention of Time, something I've also heard is that apparently in the last Episode of Rainbow Quest, Time died or faded away or something because he couldn't handle using the amount of power he had to use to teleport Sabre into the past, but by the time I had heard about that, I had already written Time into the story, and he was a major part of it by being the one who warned everyone about the threat in the first place, so I decided to keep him in the story.

Okay, I'm rambling a bit so I'm going to stop it there (and also there's nothing really else to talk about)
I'll be publishing the next Chapter soon so I'll see you then.
Until then, goodbye and have a good day/night!
