Fantastic Beasts - Newt Scamander
(Set in the time of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald)
Dear Diary,
It's a wonder Norton hasn't stolen the pen I keep with the diary case. He usually gets to anything shiny before I do. Oh, and Norton happens to be my Niffler, if you're wondering. Tina suggested I name him, as a pet doesn't really seem like a pet if you don't name him. She's right. As always...
But when something distracts even me from my fantastic beasts, one can imagine how grave the situation is.
Dumbledore was right. Grindelwald's rally was an event of massive destruction, a turning point in his quest for power.
And Leta...
Leta's gone. She was, as you can imagine, the one who wanted to hold Grindelwald off. Always so brave. So ambitious. And then life was taken away from her.
My brother went to bits. We all did. But my brother promised himself, as did I, that her sacrifice would not be in vain. Grindelwald shall not win.
Tina and Jacob have it really hard too. Queenie decided to join Grindelwald's force. We're devastated. The future of this battle seems very uncertain indeed.
Credence's obscurial is the one thing Grindelwald is intent on possessing. And when that happens, things will turn drastically. He won't win. Not with us here. Not with Dumbledore against him.
Back home, Jacob and Tina are with me for the time being. The fireplace is crackling merrily, setting a pleasant atmosphere at least for now. The embers of the fireplace really seem to blend with Tina's eyes... it's like fire in dark water. It rather resembles....
Well, I'm not supposed to say.
Aside from that, the Zouwu seems to be getting along rather well with the other beasts in the case. And the dear Kelpie has completely recovered.
I must be off now, I think Norton may have stolen the kitchen teaspoons.
Yours truly,
Newt Scamander
