Chapter 60
"You're back!" Sawyer said happily, once he saw Dream walk into the Burger Grill, followed by her dad and Ava. "You haven't come here in a while."
"Hey, Sawyer," Dream greeted him as she walked to the counter. "Yeah, it's definitely been a while."
"Yeah, last I heard, you were in an insane asylum," Sawyer said jokingly.
"Pfft, who said that?"
"Savannah. Yeah, the witch girl I'm forced to call my sister."
"I am going to murder her," Dream swore. "An insane asylum, really?"
"Yes," Sawyer nodded seriously. "She also said a ton of other horrible things about you, you don't even want to know...just murder her already! So I'll never have to see her face again!"
"What is wrong with you two," Dream muttered. "I'll have...a cheeseburger and a soda," she ordered.
"Okay," Sawyer said. "Does your dad or Ms. Jansen want anything?"
Apparently, Ava was the substitute teacher for many classes at Pebblebrook Creek High.
Dream stepped aside and let her dad and Ava order their food.
"Okay, coming up!" Sawyer announced after they ordered. "By the way, Dream, you're going to be at the court case, right?"
"Yeah?"
"Okay, good, just checking."
Why was everyone acting so strange about the court case?
---
"I've never eaten at the Burger Grill before, but this is good," Ava commented.
"It is," Dream agreed, "The food here is really delicious," she said, taking another sip of her soda. "Especially for a fast food restaurant."
"And the fries are a must have," her dad said, reaching for more.
"Um, Dad," Dream laughed, "You ordered four large fries and finished three of them."
"Cut me some slack, I had a really crappy day. My daughter ran away to some guy's house and gave me one heck of an attitude."
"Should we go over why this happened again?" Dream glowered.
"I have apologized profusely. No need."
Dream rolled her eyes.
"While you aren't being punished," Ava said in her gentle manner, "You do need to understand that you shouldn't talk to your father like that. He just wants the best for you."
"If depression fits the definition of 'the best,' then okay," Dream snapped.
"Dream," her dad said warningly.
"Okay," she grumbled.
Sawyer came up to their table. "Are you guys doing okay?" he asked with a big smile on his face. "Do you guys need anything?"
"Another large fries, please," Dream's dad ordered. Dream snorted.
"Wow," she said.
Sawyer leaned down. "Check the wrapper of your burger," he whispered by Dream's ear quickly before briskly walking away.
Dream frowned, having already finished her burger. Thankfully, she hadn't thrown the wrapper away yet and it was just lying on her plate in front of her. She picked it up, turning it around, seeing a quick note scribbled on it.
"We need to talk. Call me tonight. ~Sawyer."
She frowned, looking in Sawyer's direction. He looked at her expectantly, and she nodded, letting him know that she got the message.
What on earth was going to happen?
---
"Marc, I said no!"
Dream pressed her ear closer to her dad's bedroom door. He sounded extremely agitated.
"You're eavesdropping on your dad's phone calls?" Ava frowned, coming up to stand beside her.
"I've never heard him sound so mad before," Dream sighed. "Something really big must be going on."
"You know how business is."
"This isn't him being frustrated because of work, trust me. He sounds like he's mad at Marc."
"Huh. That's weird," Ava shrugged. "But anyhow, friends fight from time to time."
"Not my dad and Marc!"
"You never know."
