Chapter 55

"Argh," Savannah groaned. "The only results for any cabins near the area are Air BnBs and things."

"Find a cabin that looks like a kidnapped person would be locked in," Dream snapped, not looking up from her laptop.

"Look Dream," Axel said, typing something on his iPad. "Ugh, Savannah's right, it's hard to find any cabins other than Air BnBs," he complained, "But anyways, Dream, I know you're worried. We all are. But snapping at people isn't going to help anyone find a cabin faster."

"Come on, this is New York," Sawyer grumbled. "Not some rural country."

"Yeah," Savannah agreed.

Zac rolled his eyes. "Amateurs. Here. There's an abandoned cabin in the same forest where Savannah and Dream found the Lili Robinson girl."

Dream jumped up. "Where? What? We need to go there, now!"

Zac sighed. "That would be a bad idea."

"How come?" Dream frowned.

"Just go there? With no plan? With no supplies?"

"Zac has a point," Savannah chimed in. Dream raised her eyebrows at her, and she turned away.

"Okay, we need a plan. Go in, rescue Chloe and whoever else is kept hostage with her, like Francesca or Fatima, and get out. Sounds good?" Sawyer suggested.

"And...how would you rescue them?" Zac pressed further.

"Uh..."

"We need to bring supplies. Flashlights, pocketknives, cameras, things like that. Also, we're going to need ropes and handcuffs."

"Okay?" Dream asked. "I'm still in a wheelchair by the way, I'm not sure I can do...you know, this kind of thing."

"Then ditch the wheelchair."

Dream's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "I freaking fell out of a window on the tenth floor and went into a coma, part of which is your fault, and you're telling me to just 'ditch the wheelchair'? Have you no empathy?"

"I didn't push you out of the window," Zac rolled his eyes.

"Yeah," Dream said, annoyed and slightly angry. "But I can't just ditch the wheelchair."

"Can you walk?"

"Well...I guess? I walked around my room a little bit in the past few days..."

"Do your legs hurt?"

"I guess not?"

"So you need the wheelchair because..."

Dream sighed, "Fine. But I'm only doing this because Chloe and maybe the twins need me."

"Huh?" Sawyer looked up. "What do we need you for?"

"Oh, other twins. Francesca and Fatima."

"Right," Savannah said, looking up. "I guess we're too used to being referred to as 'the twins' that we forgot that there's another set of twins," she laughed.

"Well, you guys are twins," Axel shrugged. "Anyways, I kind of agree with Zac. We do need a plan. What does this place look like?"

"Um," Zac pulled up a picture of the cabin. "Like this."

"That's...really run down. Are you sure?" Sawyer squinted at the picture.

"It's the only cabin in the area that's not, well, an Air BnB. I'll take my chances."

"Yeah," Savannah said.

"Okay..." Dream searched through her drawers. "I have a pocketknife here, and all of our phones have cameras and flashlights right?"

"Yep," everyone else nodded in agreement.

"I think I have a couple pairs of handcuffs in my room," Zac said, walking over to the window, "I'll go grab them real quick. I'll also see if I can find any ropes."

"Oh my gosh, Zac," Savannah stared with wide eyes as Zac jumped over to his window.

"I'm all good!" he called from his room.

"He does that a lot," Dream explained.

"Okay," Zac called from the window, "I found three pairs of handcuffs and some rope."

"Good?" Sawyer said.

"I'm going to throw them over, but you guys have to catch it."

"Axel, you catch it."

"What? Why me?" Axel looked at Dream with wide eyes.

"Because you're a soccer player?"

"Um, I'm not sure if you understand how soccer works, Dream," Axel looked at her with narrowed eyes, "You don't get to touch the soccer ball with your hands unless you're the goalie."

"So...are you the goalie?" Dream asked hopefully.

"No. I'm not the goalie."

"Someone catch it," Dream whined.

"Whatever, you guys keep whining like little sissys, I'm just going to try to make the jump carrying these things," Zac said, effortlessly making it back into Dream's room.

"Okay. How far away is this...cabin?" Sawyer asked, standing up.

"Er..." Zac looked at his phone, "A couple miles. Shouldn't be too bad."

"Can we take, like, the bus or something?" Savannah said. "I don't want to walk a few miles in this weather."

"Sure, I guess," Dream shrugged. "And yeah, it is pretty cold."

"Okay, then, let's go." Zac paused just as he was about to reach for the doorknob on Dream's door. "Wait." He looked around. "Are all parents okay with this?"

"Eh. Our parents are fine as long as we're hanging out with you guys," Sawyer shrugged.

"Yeah, they're not really that nitpicky," Savannah agreed.

"My parents are basically the same as Savannah and Sawyer's parents, so nothing to worry about," Axel commented indifferently.

Zac looked at Dream. "How about you, nerd?"

Dream glowered. "Don't call me a nerd. Also, my dad can be overprotective, but he and Ava are...out...right now."

"Ava? You mean Ms. Jansen?"

"Yeah," Dream shrugged, "No biggie."

Zac paused for a second. "You're lucky that she's going to be your stepmother. She's really nice," he finally said.

"I guess?" Dream said, confused. "What are you even waiting for? Let's go already."

---

"Why did we even come here again?" Dream complained.

"Dream, I thought you liked the forest," Savannah said, "Remember when we first met and I wanted to hang out, you made me come here with you? That was the time we found Lili Robinson in the stream."

"Yeah, but that was before creepy things started happening," Dream said. "Also, the weather was much, much, warmer."

"Oh well," Axel said, "We do need to find Chloe, so our comfort can come later."

That caught Dream's attention. "Well, somebody sounds invested," she sang, grinning.

"Welcome to my life, brother," Zac pat Axel on the back.

"Yay," Axel sarcastically muttered.

"Don't say, do, or even think anything near Dream that will make her suspicious," Savannah advised.

"Oh, please, I'm not that bad," Dream said, still unable to stop smiling. "Anyways, we still have to find Chloe and this...abandoned cabin. Zac, how close are we?"

"Um...two hundred seventy-nine feet, two hundred seventy feet, two hundred sixty three feet..."

"We get it," Dream interrupted, "I asked for an approximate number, not an annoying buzz in my ears."

"Someone's moody today," Sawyer commented.

"I'm sorry," Dream sighed, "It's just, I'm worried about Chloe. She's my best friend, and I'm going crazy thinking about what is going to happen if we don't get there in time."

"We're actively searching for her, there's nothing more you can do," Zac said.
"Mrs. Woods is so paying for this," Axel muttered.

Dream smirked, causing Axel to realize what he just accidentally said.

"Yeah, that's what I meant by... 'Don't say, do, or even think anything near Dream that will make her suspicious'..." Savannah said, nodding. "Sorry, Axel, but that's the end of your peaceful days. Say hello to nonstop torment and teasing by Dream."

"Again, I'm not that bad," Dream mumbled. "Wait, is that the cabin?"

Zac squinted. "It looks like it. It's a lot more...run down...than I thought, wow."

They were standing in front of what was probably supposed to be a cabin. Well, it probably used to be a cabin at some point, but it looked destroyed. Half of it was torn down, and the other half was held up by pieces of rotted wood.

"Um...yeah..." Savannah stared at it. "I'm not sure if this is really..."

"I'm going in," Dream said, bravely taking a step forward.

Sawyer went over. "I'm coming with you."

"And I'm definitely going with you guys," Axel commented, standing behind them.

Dream snorted. It took every last bit of willpower for her to bite her tongue and not tease Axel for what he just said.

"I guess I'm coming too," Savannah said. "Chloe's really cool, I would hate for anything bad to happen to her."

"Same," Zac said.

"You sure that's not only because you need to protect Savannah?" Dream giggled.

"Oh," Savannah rolled her eyes, "Like Sawyer isn't protecting you at every turn."

"Heh?" Dream whirled around to look at Sawyer with wide eyes. "...What?"

Sawyer turned around, unable to meet Dream's eyes.

"Guess who's laughing now," Savannah said, "I should have told Dream that way sooner," she snorted.

"Can we focus here?" Axel snapped. "We're safe and fine. Chloe's not. Let's go."

"I'll go first," Dream said hesitantly, walking to the other side of the cabin, and stepping in.

There must have been a movement sensor, because once she stepped into the cabin, a light lit up.

"Uh oh," Dream whispered.
