Chapter 4
"I'm-I'm so sorry," Dream stammered. "It was an accident. I didn't mean to hit you, I swear."
"It's okay," he said. "But maybe you should learn something from this. Never--ever--mess with Francesca Baren. It will never turn out the way you want it to."
"Funny, everyone keeps telling me that," Dream said.
"From your encounter with her earlier, I'm guessing you're new," the boy said. "I'm Axel, the captain of the soccer team."
"I'm Dream, and this is Savannah," Dream gestured to Savannah, who was sitting next to her.
Axel laughed. "Never thought I'd see the new girl introducing people."
Dream glared at him.
"Sorry," Axel said. "I've known Savannah and her twin brother Sawyer for maybe as long as I've been alive. I mean, we were born two days apart, in the same hospital."
"You have a twin brother?" Dream turned to Savannah.
"Sadly yes," she joked. "He and Axel are best friends. They're totally inseparable." Savannah looked around. "Except for right now, because Axel is right here and I have no idea where he--"
"Surprise!" a boy who looked almost identical to Savannah, except with short hair jumped in front of her.
"Ugh!" Savannah glared at him. "Why do you always have to scare me like that," she complained.
"What kind of brother would I be if I didn't always annoy you," he grinned widely. "Oh, hey, who's your friend?"
"This is Dream," Savannah introduced. "Dream, this is my idiot brother Sawyer."
"Hello," Dream said. She turned to Savannah. "I've always wanted a sibling. It gets lonely sometimes, when it's just me and my dad. Besides, he's working all the time."
"TAKE HIM," Savannah said. "I'd gladly give him away. Although, I'm pretty sure that's illegal, and besides, my parents would ground me."
"Aw," Sawyer said, pouting. "How could you treat your oh-so-loving and kind brother this way?"
Savannah punched him in the arm, causing him to groan exaggeratedly.
"Do they always act this way?" Dream asked Axel, cautiously eyeing Savannah and Sawyer.
Axel laughed. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Hey, I didn't see you in any classes this morning. Who's your teacher for first period?"
"Mrs. Woods," Dream admitted glumly.
Axel looked at her worriedly. "Oh, no."
"And if you're wondering, yes. She is that bad," Dream sighed.
"I'm sorry about that," Axel said. "Did you know that my mom had to specifically request for me to not be placed in any of Mrs. Woods's classes?"
"Um, what?"
"Yeah. I think that's what Mrs. Jameson did too."
"Huh? Who's that?" Dream stared at Axel. He snorted.
"Savannah and Sawyer's mom. You know, the girl you tried to introduce me to? Even though you don't even know her last name?"
Dream turned red. "In my defense..."
Axel nodded, laughing. "Yeah, go on. In your defense...?"
"Uh, well..."
"Okay, stop teasing her," Savannah butted in. "Class starts in five minutes and we don't want to be late."
Dream jumped up. "Five minutes?! Shoot, I need to get to class!"
Savannah raised her eyebrows, and Axel and Sawyer stared at her.
"Hmm...nerd?" Sawyer said.
"I get detention if I'm not at least five minutes early," Dream snapped before running back to her classroom as fast as she could.
"You realize that's only for history, right?" Sawyer called after her, but she didn't hear him.
