Chapter 31

"So Dream," Sawyer said, as Dream sat down at their usual table with her lunch. "Over winter break, Savannah, Axel, Zac, and I are--"

"Planning to go to LaFontaine Ski Resorts, and you guys want to invite me? Sure. Also don't worry about the costs, I'll take care of that because don't freak out, but Marc LaFontaine is my godfather."

Sawyer blinked. "You're a mind reader," he said, completely missing the part where Dream said Marc LaFontaine was her godfather.

"Nah. Zac and Savannah were competing to see who could tell me the news faster. I was told twice this morning already," Dream said.

"Oh," Sawyer laughed. "Savannah seems like the type to exhibit this kind of childish behavior, but Zac? I thought he had a tough bad boy reputation to keep."

Dream giggled. "They're already bickering like a married couple, that's why," she said, right before feeling a sharp pain shoot through her ribs. "Ow!" she turned to see Savannah, who was glaring at her with a deadly expression. "Oh, I didn't see you there," she chuckled nervously.

"I hate you," Savannah said, irritated that Dream couldn't shut up about what she discovered this morning.

"Sorry," Dream said, still smiling.

"You're forgiven. Ugh! I need to stop being so nice!"

"When were you ever nice?" Sawyer cut in.

"Oh shut up," Savannah said, somewhat grouchy.

"And the Jameson twins are arguing! Again! Like every single day!" Axel announced, joining them.

Savannah and Sawyer both turned to glare at him. Dream laughed, he sounded just like a sports announcer. But then, he'd played in countless soccer games, so of course he knew what the announcers sounded like.

"I take it you invited her already?" Axel said, gesturing to Dream.

"Yes. I've been invited. Three times."

"Great!" Axel said. "You can help invite more people, because trust me, I don't have any friends, cousins, or honestly I don't know anyone who would be willing to spend a week at a ski resort with Savannah and Sawyer's arguing."

"You don't need to," Dream said, exasperated, for the fourth time that day. "I can cover the costs."

"I didn't know you were filthy rich," Axel said. "But if you are, can I borrow thirty bucks?"

"I'm not rich. At all. I just know Marc LaFontaine really well," Dream said.

"He's her godfather," Savannah said. "Can you believe that?"

"Woah," Axel said, much more reserved than Savannah and Zac. "That's sick." Beside him, Sawyer's jaw dropped open. He probably hadn't heard Dream the first time she said it.

"But," Dream said. "My friend Chloe from Miami really wants to visit me for winter break. Can she tag along?"

"Sure," Axel shrugged. "Fine with me."

"I don't mind either," Sawyer said.

"And I don't really--" Savannah began, stopping dead when she saw Zac making his way over to their table.

"What are you guys talking about?" Zac said, sitting down next to Axel.

"Just about the winter skiing trip," Dream shrugged. "Nothing really. When is the trip, anyways?"

"We're trying to book December twenty-third to twenty-seventh. Five days," Sawyer said.

"We're going to be at the ski resort through Christmas?" Dream frowned.

"Well if you had any other plans," Axel said. "We'd miss you but no one's forcing you to come."

"No, I'll come," Dream shrugged. "I can book it for you guys."

"What..." Sawyer said. "That's...awesome. I mean, I don't want to come off as taking advantage of your relation to Mr. LaFontaine..."

"No, no," Dream said. "It's nothing, really. He'll be happy to host us."

"Is it just me or has Savvy managed to stay silent for like, five minutes? It's a miracle!" Axel suddenly said.

Savannah scowled. "One, don't call me Savvy. Sawyer calls me that and it annoys the heck out of me. Two, I don't talk that much."

"One," Axel said, grinning, "That's why I said it. Two, I'm actually kind of thankful you talk a lot, because you met Dream. And now we actually have a cool girl in our friend group."

Dream flipped her hair. "Thanks for calling me cool, Axel. It's very refreshing from what someone calls me," she glared at Zac. "For your information, I am not a nerd."

"Come on, you read for fun!" Zac whined. "And besides, Savannah--"

"Call her Savvy," Dream interrupted, a wicked grin on her face.

"Why, didn't she just say it annoys her?"

"Oh trust me," Dream grinned. "She won't be annoyed if you call her that." From beside her, Savannah shot her a deadly glare, but she ignored her.

"Okay?" Zac frowned in confusion. "So I was going to say, Savvy isn't that bad. I bet she doesn't do a ton of extra credit work!"

"I don't. That was your fault," Dream complained.

As much fun as it was hanging out with this group, no one was really ready for what was to come.
