Chapter 28
"You are like a grumpy old man," Chloe complained, "Eat some more frozen yogurt."
"No," Dream said, sounding indifferent. "I've had enough."
"You're no fun today," Chloe huffed.
Dream sighed. "Sorry, it's just..."
"What?" Chloe grinned. "Spill it, Miss Dreamy."
"Don't call me that," Dream snapped. "And well...did I tell you about the time me and my friend Savannah well, pulled an unconscious girl out of a stream in the middle of the night?"
Chloe shivered. "Do I remember that? Yes, I was hoping you were lying and it didn't happen. Because if it was true, then I fear for you."
"Well," Dream sighed. "Yes, it's true. And Savannah texted me this morning that in the same stream, they found...two more students. Dead."
Chloe gasped. "Dream Ariella Cadison, you are scaring the sh--"
"Language," Dream reminded her.
"Shiitake mushrooms. I was going to say shiitake mushrooms," Chloe said. "Anyways, you are scaring the shiitake mushrooms out of me! You'd better not be lying."
"I'm not, here's the text."
Chloe read the text message over and over again, still slightly in disbelief. "Wow...this is... scary. And you think your history teacher did this?"
"She sued my dad, and hired some creepy tall guy to kidnap me and my friend Zac. I think she--" Dream paused when she saw Chloe's expression, and slowly realized what she just revealed.
"You. Were. Kidnapped?" Chloe stood up. Standing at only five foot one, Chloe wasn't tall by any means, and she was extremely skinny, but her piercing blue gaze was still rather intimidating.
"I...ah...well..."
"Dream Ariella Cadison, this better not be some sick joke!" Chloe wagged her pointer finger in front of Dream's face. Dream sighed, using her hand to push Chloe's down.
"Chloe Abigail Scott, I have no idea why you keep using my full name so much but, I can assure you, this isn't some joke."
"You didn't tell me," Chloe whined. "And," her voice turned more serious, "You need to tell your dad about this."
"No!" Dream said. "No one was hurt, we got out just fine. It's okay."
"It's NOT okay! Someone tried to kidnap you! If you don't tell your dad, I will!"
"Ugh," Dream grumbled. "I don't want him to worry about me though."
"As your parent, he should be worried. What if you hadn't somehow escaped?"
Dream bit her lip. She hadn't thought of that. "Fine, I'll tell him."
"Good, because we're going home now."
Dream panicked. "No!"
"Yes," Chloe said.
"I'd rather go to the mall," Dream grumbled as Chloe dragged her out of the frozen yogurt place.
"Are you kidding me? This is one of the few times I'd rather not be at the mall," Chloe retorted.
Dream grumbled. This was not going to be fun.

"Mr. Cadison," Chloe sang as they entered her house.
"You sound happy," Dream scowled.
"I want to know what your punishment is," Chloe grinned.
"Hey girls," Dream's dad said as he walked down the stairs of Chloe's house. "How was your outing? We're getting ready to go to the airport in an hour."
"Actually," Chloe smirked, "Dream has something to tell you."
"No, I don't," Dream said quickly.
"Dream," her dad said, a warning tone in his voice.
Dream sighed. "Please don't be mad."
"That depends on what you tell me."
Dream hesitated in a moment of awkward silence.
Chloe groaned. "Just spit it out already."
"I was kidnapped," Dream blurted out quickly.
There was a moment of awkward silence before Dream's dad burst into anger, looking appalled. "Dream Ariella Cadison, if this is your idea of a sick joke, it's not funny."
Chloe giggled. "That's what I said!"
Dream's dad gave her a glare, which effectively silenced her.
"Sorry," Dream said, looking down. "But hey, I'm still here."
"When was this?" he demanded. "And why didn't you tell me?"
Dream hesitated, then just decided to go for it. "Remember the day you introduced me to Ava?"
Her dad paled a shade. "You don't mean..."
"Yeah, that afternoon before I got home. See why I got so mad?" Dream grumbled, really not wanting to talk about it.
"How are you still here though?" Chloe said, looking as if she were watching a tv show. "Tell me, tell me, tell me!!"
Dream rolled her eyes, annoyed. "A girl rescued me," she said casually, not wanting to reveal too much. "A classmate."
"Do you know WHO kidnapped you?" her dad pushed.
"Um, ah--well, uh...how do I say this...actually--heh..."
"Spit it out, Dream," Chloe said. "OMG this is so suspenseful..."
Dream sighed, shooting Chloe a deadly glare. "Yes, I know," she said hesitantly.
"WHO?" her dad demanded angrily.
Dream didn't know how to put it. "Uh...during your trial, was there a, um, really tall guy, called Sinclair or something? Who went with Mrs. Woods?"
Her dad's hands visibly balled into fists. "Don't tell me he--"
"Lured me into the empty school gym by waiving my detention for the day and slipping a mysterious note in my locker? Yes I get that I'm an idiot but to be fair I thought it had to be a classmate or teacher who wrote that note. Not some tall hooded creepy guy--well he wasn't hooded during the court case but he was when I was him at the gym and he kidnapped me--"
"Did he hurt you?" her dad said, his face filled with concern.
"No...unless being scratched from the handcuffs around my wrists and ankles counts."
"This is outrageous!" he said. "When we get home, the first thing we're doing is reporting this to the police."
"But--I don't even have any evidence this happened," Dream protested.
"Your school gym has cameras, does it not?" Chloe suggested.
"But still..."
Dream had no idea why, but she had an uneasy feeling about anyone finding out about any of this. It was no longer about her dad worrying.
"Were there any witnesses?" her dad pressed.
Dream hesitated, not wanting to reveal too much, especially about Zac and Francesca. She glared at Chloe for getting her into this mess in the first place.
Chloe sighed before speaking up. "There's less than one hour before you guys have to leave and go back to Brooklyn. Can't we just spend this short amount of time together and have fun?"
Dream's dad sighed. "Fine. You girls have fun. But, be very, very, careful. If you run into anyone sketchy, leave that place immediately. Always be wary of your surroundings. Do not--"
"We get it," Dream snapped.
"This isn't over. We're still reporting this once we get back to Brooklyn."
With a sigh, Dream followed Chloe out of the house. Even though she didn't always like the typical things Chloe loved to do, she was willing to do anything to get the previous conversation out of her mind.
