Play the music when I say my kiddies

I stared at my reflection as it stared back. The floor to ceiling mirror showed my mostly empty room, the blow-up mattress that had blankets strewn all over. It also showed the shadows under my eyes and the piercing sadness that even I could see. My whole body seemed duller and I couldn't find the energy to correct my posture.

"Come on Bryce." Ohm said as he stepped out of the bathroom. I didn't turn to face him, just looked at him through the mirror. He stopped when he saw I wasn't moving and our eyes locked. "I'll be next to you through it all." Ohm walked over and placed his hand on my shoulder, still not breaking eye contact. I swallowed down my tears and adjusted my hair one last time before turning and giving ohm a solemn nod.

I turned and walked out the door where I saw Maggie pacing the living room. "Jesus what took you two so long? I just want to get this over with so I can come back and pack." She said as she put a black hat on and messed with her black lace bell style selves. She wasn't dressed for a funeral, more for a date but then again it's Maggie.

Pssssssst that's Maggie's clothes

Me and ohm hopped into the rental car since I already sold mine and Maggie got in her car she used to drive up here.

On our way to the graveyard it began to rain slowly. Big fat drops splattered against the windshield, beating a steady rhythm against the roof of the car. "Bryce," ohm spoke "i'm here for you. I'll be right next to you through it all. No matter what. You can always talk to me." I nodded my head absentmindedly. He wouldn't know what i'm going through, he says he does but he couldn't. Nobody could ever understand how I feel.

The car came to a stop and big metal gates loomed overhead. A rain drop hit my cheek and then ohm opened my umbrella and handed it to me. I nodded my head in thanks and stepped past the gates and into the land of polished rock and bones. Maggie was already at the grave sight, standing with one of her hips jutted out as she stared at mom's coffin.

As I came closer I heard her mumbling. "You where such a bitch alive. If you ask me you had it coming." I bit my tongue to keep from yelling at her. I stepped past without even looking at her, stopping when I came next to the coffin. "Thank you" I whispered and then stepped back next to ohm.

The three of us watched as the coffin was lowered into the ground and the dirt placed back where it was. I don't remember the trip to the lawyers office well. One moment i'm standing in front of mom's grave the next i'm in a leather seat with a middle aged man who had mahogany brown eyes and a sober face sitting across from me and my sister and ohm on either side of me.

"Let me start off by saying i'm sorry for your loss." The lawyer said as he opened a manila folder. "Your both to young to have lost your mother." Maggie nodded her head and I stared down at the grey carpet under my feet.

"Well let's get on with it then, to Bryce McQuaid it says you where left with all of her personal finances, and property. There is a letter here addressed to someone named Ohmwrecker?" "That's me sir." Ohm said and the lawyer nodded and passed him the envelope. "There is also a letter for you Mr. McQuaid." I reached out and took the envelope. "That would appear to be everything." "No it can't be! There's nothing about me or dad! Check again. For Maggie McQuaid and Thomas McQuaid." Maggie demanded.

"Miss. McQuaid i'm looking at it and I see nothing about you or your father. I'm sorry." "That bitch! How could she not put her husband and daughter in her will! We deserve something for putting up with her for years!" I gritted my teeth. "Ex-husband" I ground out. "What was that mama's boy?" "I said Ex-husband!" I stood up and glared down at her. "You act like she owns you something but she doesn't and she never did! You constantly put her down and ran off with the man who hurt her! You two don't deserve shit so how dare you get all pissy when she doesn't leave you anything! Should you be going home to pack so you can go fuck more guy now? We all know the real reason you where here was for the will. Well it's been read and you didn't get jack shit so just fucking leave!"

My sisters eyes watered and tears began to spill as she looked up at me. "Bryce please...you know how dad is. If I come home without anything..." "Sounds like your problem, maybe if you where a better daughter then you would have gotten something." With that I turned on my heels and slammed the door behind me.

I managed to get out of the office building before my tears could spill and when they did spill I ran. I ran through the rain and back to who I know loves me.

I glared at the tear stained paper in my hand, reading it for the fourth time.

Dear Bryce
I knew I wouldn't make it but I couldn't bare to tell you. To take away the hope you had. The hope that brightened up my world. In the end I ruined your hope though. I'm sorry my son...sorry things couldn't have been different. Sorry I couldn't have given you a better life, a better dad, a better sister. I'm sorry I can't be with you anymore. I'm sorry for the tears you'll shed and I won't be able to wipe them away. I know that you'll find your path in life even with me gone. I won't be able to guide you anymore but i'm watching from heaven and I'll always be proud of whatever choice you make. Even the hard ones. Your just starting your life so go live it. Find what makes you happy and embrace it. No matter what. I love you Bryce.

With all of my heart

"Why mom?" I asked, "why'd you leave? Why didn't you tell me so I could enjoy my last bit of time with you?" The gravestone said nothing back and I pulled up a clump of grass. It'd stopped raining maybe half a hour ago. The sky was to cheerful, a light blue with white fluffy clouds. I laid back onto my suit jacket I was sitting on and stared upward.

"Is this how you repay your followers God? You murder your loyal servants." I spoke bitterly "what did she do to die? She praised you all her life, spreading your word as best as she could. Maybe it wasn't enough for you. Is that why you killed her? Wow, how merciful. What's next? Are you going to strike me down next? Why aren't you going after the real bad people?"

"'In the natural order of the world, suffering is random. Bad things happen to good people just about as often as they happen to bad people. We have not been given a shield protecting us from misfortune, but there is within all of us waiting to be discovered, the strength to deal with misfortune, to overcome it, and learn from it so we can still find love, laughter, and joy despite it' - Michael Josephson." Ohm said as he sat next to me. "Sorry i'm late to the party. I had to watch your sister pack and leave. It was really pitiful honestly."

"She's just being over dramatic. It's kind of her thing." "I've noticed" "I have no idea what to do now." "Well it's really simple." "It is?" I asked and sat up to face him. "Yeah," ohm reached out and took the purple crystal on a chain that had been in my letter and put it around my neck. "You live."
