The light shinned harshly onto my eyes, waking me up. I slowly sat up and stretched; shrugging out from under the kitten pile. I decided a cup of coffee was in order so I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood.
I began my walk down the hall only to pause halfway through. Was my tv on? Maybe I left it on last night before going to bed? I don't really remember much about last night. It was mostly a blur. I crept forward, more cautious then before. I'm probably just being silly. Who breaks into someone's house just to watch tv?
I turned the corner and saw that my tv was on and that nobody was around. Guess I did leave it on. It wouldn't be the first time. I switched it off and went into the kitchen to make my coffee.
After it was made I stepped onto the patio and looked out over the back yard. What a nice morning. The sun was out, there was a gentle breeze, I could smell honey suckle. It was almost perfect. No scratch that it was per-
"Hey Bryce." I let out a squeal and jumped so hard my hot coffee spilt on me causing me to let out another squeal. "Oh crap I didn't mean to scare you i'm so sorry." I turned my head and saw ohm rushing towards me? "Come on you need to go change. I'll make you a new cup of coffee. I'm so sorry I really didn't mean to scare you." "Ohm?" I asked confused and he paused to look up at me. "Yeah it's me." "What are you doing here?" He averted his eyes, finding interest in the little roof over my patio. "I'll explain that after you get changed."
He ushered me inside quickly and practically pushed me into my bedroom. He looked different in person. You couldn't really tell that his skin was as tan as it is or that his eyes where more grey then hazel or how he's muscular but not to musclier. Probably only enough to have slight abbs.
I brushed my thoughts aside and began to get dressed. Not wanting to put on real clothes yet I put on some black basketball shorts and a plain purple shirt. Then I left the room but not before grabbing Stripes and Patch off my bed. I came out just as ohm was leaving the kitchen, holding two cups of coffee.
I nodded my head to the couch and we both sat down. I set the kittens in my lap and reached for my cup of coffee as Taquito jumped onto the couch and decided Ohm's lap would be a nice place to lay.
"Have you been smuggling things to my cat? He doesn't usually snuggle up to strangers." I asked looking at the black cat. "Really? He's been acting like this since I got here." "Speaking of which when did you get here and why are you here?"
"Well I got here around midnight last night and..." He carefully reached over and plucked the coffee mug out of my hand and put it in the coffee table. "How much of yesterday do you remember?" My face scrunched up as I began to concentrate. "I remember coming home and Skyping you and the guys. From there it's all just a blur. What happened?"
Ohm reached out and took my hand and I looked at him quizzically and pulled my hand away slowly. "Bryce...yesterday your mother passed away." "What? I don't appreciate the joke ohm. How could she? Pam said she was doing much be-" My memory kicked into gear and everything came flooding back to me.
The call, mom, Ohm's voice on the other end of the phone, Pam driving me home. Every last detail. I wished I hadn't pulled my hand away from Ohm now and almost like he could hear my thoughts he reached out and took my hand again.
"It alright. Let it out." He said softly and I turned and buried my face in the back of the couch as sobs racked my body. She really was gone. She really did leave me. "I don't know what I'll do now." I sobbed out, my hand tightening around ohm's. "I'm here to help you. That's the whole reason I came." His other hand reached out and rubbed my back.
I lifted my head and wiped away my tears even though more replaced them shortly after. "Thanks for the help but unless your a wizard there's nothing you can do." I sniffled after I was done. "Well let's start with letting me know what's the problem." "Problems," I corrected. "And it's a lot. Money being the main problem, then I have the cats to look after and the fact I'll be homeless by the end of the month." I wiped away the tears again but just as before it was a useless effort.
"I can help you money wise." Ohm offered but I shook my head. "It's not like your in a better situation. We make almost the same and besides I can't depend on you to pay my rent or mortgage every month." "Well how about you come live with me! I rent a house so we can spilt rent. It was getting a bit out of hand for me anyway. The only problem would be that the landlord said I can only have four pets at once." Ohm suggested.
"I have someone who can take three of the cats, but are you really sure? I don't know when I'll me able to move out and I don't have the money for a plain ticket." I asked unsure. "I'll buy you one and don't worry. Besides right now the best thing for you is to be around someone. It all comes down to you. Do you really want to leave?" I thought on it for a moment.
All of my memories are here. Then again all the memories would haunt me. Going to Chicago would mean a new place with new memories. Besides mom did always want me to get out more. She would push me to go.
"Yeah I guess I do." I looked at his face for the first time since I had remembered. "Alright well come on we've got packing to do and calls to make, but first." He pulled me in for a hug and squished the cats in the process which caused the kittens to squirm around and Taquito to let out a annoyed meow which made me giggle.
