Chapter Ten-Leaving For Scoj Bren

Victoria and Darius walked outside after talking to Anton. Victoria absently walked over to her spot in the woods and almost forgot that Darius was with her. She couldn't stop worrying about Anton. With Artur being on that trip, she was nervous about something happening to him. Artur would be the one to leave him behind in that forest. Once she was at her spot, she sat down against a tree and leaned against it.

"Victoria?" Darius asked worriedly. He sat down beside her and laid his hand on her leg. "What's wrong?"

Victoria put her attention on a leaf swinging low in front of them and shrugged. "I'm worried about Anton," she explained to him. "He just got here and now he's going on a trip to a dangerous jungle in the world. Artur's going with him and that's worse. I don't understand what was going through Flaviu's mind when he decided to take Anton." She looked over at Darius. "I know that Anton is a good scientist, but he hasn't even been able to participate in an experiment in the lab yet. He's been cleaning dishes! I want to go to Flaviu and tell him what I think, but Anton's so excited about this and I know he wants to go. I just can't bring myself to ruin it for him." She gave a sheepish smile and looked down at her hands. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be bothering you about this. You don't want to hear about my worries about Anton."

Darius gave her a small smile and grabbed her hand. He gave it a gentle squeeze. "It's true that I don't want to hear you talk about another guy, but if it's troubling you and you need to talk about it, then I'll listen. If it's important to you, it's important to me. Besides, I'm sure Anton will be fine. He seems like he'll be tough enough to handle that jungle." He chuckled. "Hell, he even stood up to me and I'm bigger than him."

Victoria chuckled and laid her head against her shoulder. "Thanks. I hope he is."

-----------------------

The next week went by fast for Anton. He was excited and nervous as he stood outside a large hovercar carrying his two oversized duffle bags. He walked to the back of the car and threw his bags into the back. He had already told his parents about where he was going and had to endure the hours of lectures and worry from his parents. He worked hard on convincing them that he will be safe. He turned back around to see Victoria and Darius standing by the door of the car. He grabbed his satchel, gave a small smile, and walked over to them.

Victoria hugged him when he stopped in front of them. "Please be safe," she begged him.

"I will," he promised while hugging her back. He turned to Darius, smiled, and shook his hand. "Take care of her, all right?"

Darius smiled. "Trust me. I will keep a really good eye on her."

Satisfied, Anton turned back to Victoria. He saw the worried look in her eyes and started to feel nervous again. "I'll only be gone for a month or two. There's no need to worry about me. I'll be fine." He said those words to her, but it felt like he was saying this to help himself believe it.

Victoria gave him a small laugh and a faked smile. "I know. I'm not that worried at all."

Anton chuckled as he looked around and saw Laura talking to Artur a couple of feet away. She had one hand on her hip and a finger pointed at his chest. Artur looked annoyed at whatever his sister was telling him. His arms were crossed, and his lips were set in a thin line. Anton laughed at the two siblings who were arguing.

"It seems like Laura is getting the upper hand," Victoria laughed with him.

They watched as Artur rolled his eyes at his sister, kissed her cheek, and climbed into the hovercar. Laura noticed them look and walked briskly towards them. She smiled as she stopped in front of them. "I have a feeling that he won't be bothering you anytime during this trip."

"I hope so," Anton breathed. He hugged them all one more time before climbing into the car. The car was even bigger on the inside. There were six chairs on each side of the car. The rest of the was already sitting in their seats and getting comfortable for the long journey.

"Anton!" Anton turned to see Flaviu smiling at him and sitting in the driver's seat. He pointed to the passenger seat next to him and motioned for Anton to sit down. Anton shouldered his satchel and walked over and sat down next to him. "I'm very glad you decided to come with us, Anton," Flaviu told him, a delighted look on his face. "I made you my official co-pilot." He started punching buttons on the console.

Anton gave a small smile and nodded his head. "Thanks." He placed his satchel down in between his feet.

Flaviu smiled at him and turned around to the rest of the group, swiveling in his chair. "All right, everyone. We will be taking off in a couple of minutes, so get ready and be comfortable." He turned back around and continued to press the buttons on the console. He buckled up his seat as the hovercar started to warm up.

He reached into his satchel and pulled out his e-pad. Last night, he downloaded more books on Morphers and the jungle of Scoj Bren so he could learn more about them. He swiped through his library until he found the first book of Morphers. When the hovercar took off, he started to read. After a couple of hours of reading, he fell into a deep sleep.
