19. The day out
On his way to the county club, the nerves in Jungkook's system becomes more and more apparent.
Even though he has no real reason to be nervous, he still is, scared that he's going to mess up his new found relationship with Song's dad.
As he drives, he soon sees the big buildings and bright green golf courses, a big crystal blue swimming pool visible and lots of people doing various activities.
Excitement blooms in his chest as he sees Song's dad waiting for him at the entrance. He had never experienced anything like this before so he wasn't sure if this was normal or not.
He quickly makes his way to the entrance, the valet taking his car keys and parking the car for him.
"Jungkook-ah! Welcome!", Jinmin greets as he hugs the boy close to him.
"Hey, dad.", Jungkook says, slightly surprised at the action, since his dad never hugged him or gave him any affection like this before.
"I'm glad you made it safely, let's go in and start our day of fun!", Jinmin says happily, like a child at a themepark.
Jungkook just chuckles at this as he continues follow the older male.
As they walk, Jungkook looks in awe at his surroundings, the people dressed in fancy clothing and all the various shops and boutiques, making the club look more like a mall than anything else.
"Wow, I never thought that the country club would look more like a fancy mall than anything!", Jungkook says, Jinmin laughing at the boy and the childlike wonder in his eyes.
"Well, we may have gone a little overboard but who cares! Life should be enjoyed.", He says, Jungkook looking at him with a smile.
"Song tells me that you own part of the club as well?", Jungkook asks, Jinmin nodding.
"Well, you see, after I retired a few years back, I went into sort of a slump. I was bored out of my mind and I even thought about going back to work. But as you know, I had already appointed Kunpimook CEO and he was so excited, I couldn't take that away from him. So, one of my friends suggested I invest in a project and long story short, we hired a group of very talented architects and engineers and as you can see, it worked out splendidly.", Jinmin explains, Jungkook listening to the story with awe, cringing a bit at the mention of Bam Bam's given name.
"So, what are we doing first?", Jungkook asks, Jinmin looking at him with a mischievous smile.
~half an hour later~
"I didn't think this is what you meant by 'bird watching', dad!", Jungkook whispers, Jinmin snickering as they watch the men playing gholf look for their gholfballs.
"Come onnn, you love this just as much as I do.", Jinmin says, Jungkook laughing, because he does.
Never in a million years did Jungkook think stealing gholfballs with his future father in law would be so fun!
Seeing the confused players' expressions as they look for the small objects is simply hilarious.
Best of all, is he gets to do this with someone that seems to really care for him like a son, even though Jinmin isn't Jungkook's real father.
"Ahh, I can't get over how confused they all look!", Jinmin says, wiping a few laughing tears out of his eyes.
"So, what do we do next?", Jungkook asks, as Jinmin takes the balls and places them in a nearby hollow tree.
"They'll find them eventually, let's go get some food, I'm starving!", Jinmin says with a smile as Jungkook nods, the tug of hunger overtaking him also, after running around, collecting gholfballs for half an hour.
As they walk back to the main buildings, Jungkook can't help but smile widely, as they engage in small talk all the way back.
After finding a good restaurant, who serves the best cheese burgers according to Jinmin himself, they take a seat at a table facing a big window, an amazing view of the lush green grass and blue sky visible.
They both order the cheese burger special and a milkshake, Jinmin's chocolate and Jungkook's obviously banana.
"So, how are things going with you guys? Anything new?", Jinmin asks, Jungkook smiling before telling him that the ultrasound went great and that everything is going great with Song and the baby.
"I brought the picture you requested before, dad. I also brought one for Bammie, but since he's not here, I'll give it to him another time.", Jungkook says, taking out the pictures of the ultrasound and handing it to Jinmin.
"Give me Bam Bam's too, I'll give it to him at home tonight.", Jinmin says, Jungkook nodding and giving him all the picutes he has, except the one he always carries in his wallet.
"Aww, the baby looks good, growing well, I see.", Jinmin says with a smile.
"Yes, they are definitely going to have their mother's good looks.", Jungkook says, looking at the picture fondly.
"You know, Kook-ah, I had my doubts about you. That was before our meeting though, when Song told us that she had a new boyfriend. I never once liked any of her past boyfriends and I didn't think you would be any different. However, when I saw how you were and how happy you make my girl, I knew that she found the one.
As I'm sure she told you, I thought I found my one but it wasn't meant to be. I'm positive that won't happen with you two because I can see the deep love you share. I'm really happy you found each other, and I'm really looking forward to us officially becoming family.", Jinmin says, a warm look on his face as he places his hand on Jungkook's shoulder, giving him a look of pride.
Jungkook has to fight the tears threatening to fall but he fails as a few tears manage to slip down his cheeks.
"I-i'm sorry, I just-", Jungkook sniffs as he internally curses his emotion for letting him down.
"Don't ever apologize for having true and raw feelings, Jungkook. I know you have real and good intentions with my Song, and from what I can tell, you are going to be an amazing father to my grandchild.", Jinmin says, giving Jungkook a big fatherly hug, Jungkook feeling a new and unknown feeling forming inside of his heart.
Acceptance.
"Thank you so much, dad.", Jungkook says, hugging Jinmin back with a love that a father and son should have, not the one he has had his whole life.
"So, tell me a little more about you. How was your childhood?", Jinmin asks, Jungkook wiping his tears away with the back of his hand before answering.
"Well, I grew up in Busan but we moved to Seoul when I was 15 years old. We moved here because my father's business was taking off and he made a lot of new partners who invested heavily in the business.", Jungkook says, Jinmin nodding along until a thought comes into his mind.
"Wait, your father isn't perhaps the CEO of Jeon Inc, is he?", Jinmin asks, Jungkook nodding in confirmation.
"I always thought of the Jeon Jinsung as a very vain man. I'm sorry, son.", Jinmin apologises once he sees the look on Jungkook's face.
"No, you're right. He got very vain and greedy when the company took off, he was almost never home and we lost all kinds of bonds between us. I rarely see him anymore. Not that I really want to, that is.
Well, to continue from before, my mother and father divorced just a year or two after we moved here because of infidelity between them and not long after the divorce was finalised, she drowned in her swimming pool after hitting her head and losing consciousness. The little relationship I had left with my dad vanished as he just kept working non stop to avoid going home. That was a very dark few years in my life. I lost everything I cared about.", Jungkook says, Jinmin looking at him with sadness on his face.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that. What about siblings? Do you have any?", Jinmin asks, hoping to lighten up the discussion.
"I had a sister. We unfortunately got into a car accident, she and I, and she didn't make it. I got her liver and I had to learn to do a lot of common things all over again because I was bed ridden for a very long time.", Jungkook explains, stopping his story for a few seconds once their food came.
"My goodness, how have you managed to turn out such a bright and amazing young man after a childhood like that?", Jinmin asks, Jungkook smiling sheepishly.
"I have to give my hyungs the credit for that. They were there for me through everything and they were the only thing that kept me going. My oldest hyung always made me food and kept me healthy and my other hyungs never left me alone, they always tried to keep me happy as much as they could. I'm very grateful to have had them close to me in that time.", Jungkook says as he takes a sip of his banana milkshake, eyes widening at the creamy sweetness of the drink.
Jinmin just smiles at the boy and feels a sense of responsibility towards the male, the kind a father should have towards his kids, the need and want to protect them againt the dangers of the world and the heartbreak it gives.
"But yeah, despite all the hardships that happend through the years, I can't explain how lucky I was to have met Song. She saved my life in ways not even I understand, and the fact that she's giving me a child to call my own, it's a gift I will work everyday to repay to her. I won't ever stop loving her, nor do I think it's even possible to stop.", Jungkook says with a chuckle, only confirming what Jinmin had thought the whole time.
This man is truly the one his daughter was meant to be with.
With no doubt in his mind, he places his hand on Jungkook's head, ruffling his hair around playfully to which he says:
"I give you my blessing and full support. I wouldn't want anyone else to marry my daughter but you. I love you, son.", He says, Jungkook's eyes widening in shock at those last words.
Love?
Jinmin actually loves Jungkook?
Jungkook could feel his heart swell with pride and love, feeling extremely happy that Jinmin thought of him as his son.
"I love you too, dad.", Jungkook says as Jinmin smiles, taking a fry and placing it in his mouth.
"Let's eat! The food is getting cold.", Jinmin says as Jungkook nods, taking a bite of the succulent and juicy sandwich.
Jup, his life was finally how it was meant to be, he has a loving girlfriend and a bundle of joy on the way, but now he also had the love of a father, strong and firm, and that will certainly never change.
